Just the dial up sounds flooded me with good memories. If nostalgia marketing is manipulative, I will happily allow them to manipulate me. Because thus far, it has only brought me joy. (I'm currently wearing little mermaid socks in my Lisa frank crocs, right after watching the Mario movie. I embrace the memories.)

I think it's especially easy to target millennials with nostalgia marketing bc we remember growing up thinking things would always get better.

My childhood was trama, divorced parents, dad raised 3 alone while working ft. All in the 80s. I love nostalgic marketing, now I know why 😮

The carseats could work in an ad but in a sort of "then Vs now", "anti-nostalgia" way, by showing how unsafe they were compared to current models.. It's an interesting topic.. one thing I worry about is if/when cultural/aesthetic nostalgia can lead to viewing past eras in a too positive, irrealistic way (the "those were the days" or "I wish I could have lived back then" thing...)

I honestly don’t see nothing wrong with it you just can’t be hyper consumed in it. It should be balance in with the present time. Like making jokes about your childhood or bringing up the good times is innocent.

It's an interesting topic. Nostalgia between generations works both ways! As a boomer who raised millennial kids, I find myself nostalgic about all the same things they would be, for the simple reason that those were my happy and precious child-rearing years. That being said, both me and my kids are extremely budget-conscious and wouldn't likely be sucked into the marketing aspect.
