I remember back in 2016, my cousin showed me Ps & Qs by Lil Uzi Vert. I thought the song was terrible, I absolutely hated the instrumental. But then, I had gone over to my cousin's house in 2020. It had been a really long time since I'd seen him, and he started playing Ps & Qs again. And then it was like it was a completely different song. Listening to the song was like euphoria; everything about 2016 just seemed so good compared to 2020.

When you said that line about "making new memories with new music" it kinda hit me. Few years ago i stopped searching actively for new music, and about that time period i was depressed: i didnt wanted to experience nothing new, everything was "pale" and "lifeless" compared to my memories of "good times at school/early university" years, i've been spending my days at my room, sleeping, barely eating, and dreaming about how my life could've been better. I vividly remember how before that period, i was actively searching for music in magazines/stores, discussing it with friends and classmates (even if discussion was just "that shit good"), every track rom that time has that specifit little memory ingrained. "Homecoming" from Kanye West reminds me of last time i was sitting at Dads car while we were driving to store. "Crazy in Love" reminds me of time when i had no shame dancing in my own room imagining im pop-star diva. "Feel Good inc." reminds me of all of my classmates who were trying to impress girls with their "cool musical taste". So many memories are attached to music from that time, but when i became depressed, i stopped making new memories, and i actually can barely remember any music i discovered for myself at that time. I actually started feeling better recently but just couldnt get what wrong with my presception of everything. Lately i can barely consume any kind of content, not just music, and i think the lack of good memories is the main reason. Im not sure why im actually writing this as i hope noones gonna read that embarassing wall of text, I just wanted to thank you for making those amazing videos. At least i can say for myself, this video made one life a bit better :D P.S.: apologizing if i made grammar mistakes, English is not my first language.

Thanks for writing this I feel like I am in a similar situation. I wanna say covid is the reason but honestly I wasn't making many new memories and discovering music before it either soooo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Being on the internet too much is partly the reason I stopped I guess. Hey, I know I'm a year late to this, but I just wanna say: it's not too late! I know it sucks looking back on a "better time" but if you live your life comparing every moment to the one before it you won't enjoy any of them! I know this is a lot harder than it sounds (especially with the pandemic and all lol) but try and go out and do things that you enjoy and that positively contribute to you or others and memories and stuff will come naturally without you thinking about it. The important thing is not to give up and I really hope you don't. God bless, hope you find a better place!

I so glad you said this cause i’ve felt the same way. I sort of find myself in these cycles where i just feel stuck and every time i break out of it it’s always associated with new music. When I had a stay in a psych ward 5 years ago, I listened to "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" on repeat for the whole month I was there. I had to play it through my shitty iPhone 4 speakers because my headphones were taken away from me. That album got me through the worst time of my life. I definitely understand what you mean when you say that music can make you nostalgic for times we here you weren’t even born. I was born in 2006 and whenever I hear early 2000’s pop or rock music I instantly get hit with a blast of nostalgia even though I either wasn’t born or was just really young when those songs came out, but that might also be because of my older siblings who were all teenagers in the 2000’s and introduced me to that type of music when I was really young

Lady gaga's album, Chromatica, is so so weird. It came out in the MIDDLE of the pandemic, when everyone was forced to stay inside and there was a curfew...I remember listening to it while in bed, waiting for it to come out. I just listened to the entire album and closed my eyes and thought about how if this came out before corona (or if corona never happened) we'd probably listen to it in some nice club. No matter how hard i try when i listen to that album, it really takes me back to that "lonely" time of pandemic lockdown wishing to live life again. Crazy
