I recently purchased a 2015 Passat TDI with 30,000 miles for only $13,000. Came with new battery, tires, and wipers plus a 2 year warranty. That little diesel gets 48 MPG all day.

After lots of research, I pulled the trigger this week on a Golf Sportwagen TDI with 30k. Good price, strong trade-in, subsidized interest rate from VW, tons of warranty. I absolutely love it - looks like it did when it was new, and a great car. Appreciate this video - nice breakdown on the Carfax report. I put emphasis on getting one that had the modifications done recently; depending on the model year, you lose some value in the emissions warranty if it's been a couple years since the modifications were done. BTW, the screenshot on this video of the warranty shows two situations; mileage/time from new and mileage/time since modifications, but doesn't go on to state, "whichever is longer" - that's part of the language. In short, probably no better time to get one, if you can find one you like at a price you like - and prices are creeping up as more people discover the value of these cars.

Bought a 15 Golf TDI in April 2019. Similar carfax, sat for 2 years. Was a San Diego car and sold at SD dealership both new and to me. Got a new battery of course. The car only had 20k in it and was like brand new and at that time, price was 14300 plus tax etc. And it's not a base car, SE model and had the 6 speed manual which rocks. Great car.

EGR ( exhaust valve flap) had to be replaced and dealer didn’t cover it- still had warranty coverage- they kept denying it was covered then a few months later I took it in for separate issue and they reimbursed me : Fast forward one year later post warranty: DPF filter and check engine lights are on: all kinds of codes from sensors to exhaust flap. EGR needs to be replaced again and obviously the filter is beyond clogged: pretty sure VW would know that a faulty EGR valve causes more build up in the filter, which causes more build up and starts ringing alarm bells all through the exhaust . The EGR replacement through a dealer is upwards of $300 not including labor. If your warranty expires , VW will replace the valve and charge you, and send you on your way- without cleaning/changing the DPF filter. It’s a band aid fix that is temporary and eventually like in my situation, the DPF light and engine lights come on- and will cost THOUSANDS of dollars to fix. Thanks for NOTHING VW. - once again the consumer is left holding the bag - an easy way for VW to save money in having to replace entires systems by only replacing the EGR. Car fills with fumes and is not safe to drive. Even though the cars have been “modified” make no mistake they are still dirty as fuck -

2012 Jetta Sportwagen TDI, or as I like to call it...stretched Golf...hands down best car I've ever owned. Pay no mind to the dealer saying no tow rating, with all this torque, they can tow 2K# easy...EcoHitch makes a class I hidden hitch with 2" receiver that's barely noticeable. Prices are going up, people are finally realizing that they're going to be collectors items

I bought a 2014 Passat TDI in 8/19 with 59K miles on it. I've put 26K miles on it in 14 months. The only problem I'm having is the heater core keeps clogging up, I've had three replaced in that time. I've seriously considered selling the car because of this issue, if I have one more go bad I'll sell the car. Really too bad because overall it's a nice car.

I bought my 2015 Passat with ea288 TDI 2.0 engine (3rd gen) used from a kia dealer at 90,000 km (55,000 miles). The dealer bought them in bulk after the phase 1 software and phase 2 hardware updates were completed. At 180,000 km (111,000 miles) I had a clogged throttle body and dpf filter (possibly cracked) and the car was running like it didn't have a turbo. Fortunately, the post emissions fix warranty is covering the repairs which would have cost me thousands. However, like mentioned in the video, these "bandage" fixes are causing many pre-emptive failures in this cars powertrain, so buy with caution. I expect more to happen in another 50,000 miles.

I’m looking at one that has 36,000 miles for $12,000 on Carvana. It’s CarFax is confusing. It doesn’t show a manufacturer buy back.. does that mean anything? Is that a bad thing? It does say the software was updated on the car on 2019
@CarDietrich4 жыл бұрын
Some people did not actually have VW buy the cars back from them, they kept them, had the fix done at a dealer, and took a cash settlement for their troubles. You might be looking at one of those cars. If you want to drop a link to it here I'll have a look at it if you'd like.

Basically its a 10 year/120,000 mile warranty from the original service date OR a 4 year/48,000 mile warranty from the date of modification, whichever is longer. This warranty essentially covers the entire engine, the turbo, the fuel pumps, and the emissions systems. Essentially anything that could make the car fail smog is covered.

So sad I didn’t buy three Passats two years ago!!!! VW won’t do Certifed Pre-Owned any more - and you pay more for an older car with more miles!! That said, I just bought a second one. I’m sure this will be the last because the hybrids and electrics will make the older ones less desirable as time goes on, but for now, this is great tech for the value!

Hey Hardworker12, you may remember me as the guy who commented on your "Doug Scored TDI Wagon" video, I bought a 2014 Jetta Sportwagen in Blue with the tan interior with moonroof and 49,500 miles for about $14,000 when it was all said and done. (Dealer charged quite a lot for tint and other "packages", that's on me for the price hike) but I'm really enjoying the car, it's getting phenomenal fuel mileage so far in the Arizona cold, I'm hoping it will last for years and years to come.

You paid too much for the mileage it had. Have the same car 2011 model year with only 15K and paid $10K. Tinting can be purchased on your own for cheaper than the dealership would charge and unless you got ceramic tint, it's probably a waste.

I just snagged a 2013 Audi A3 with under 50k miles for about $11k. A couple things I would note: make sure you allot some time to clean everything. They clearly stored the cars outdoors, and even after a detail I still found some dirty items. Mine had red desert dust in all kinds of nooks and crannies, even under the engine cover. The dealer I bought it from forgot to change the air filters (which they rectified), but that tells me that VW aren't doing the basic maintenance when they retrofit these cars. The interior plastic was sun worn in a lot of places too, so I can assume it was in a parking lot for a while, so hinges, seals, seals, wiper blades, etc may need some care. Otherwise, I'd say it was a sweet deal. I'm looking forward to having it for a while.
@CarDietrich4 жыл бұрын
I can 100% confirm they were stored outside. I worked at a dealer group that had VW and Audi in 2017-2018. They had rented a dirt lot right next to a freeway to store the TDI buybacks. One of the saddest cars I've ever seen was a black Audi A8 TDI that was over there for who knows how long. It was the single dirtiest car I've ever seen. When Audi was finally ready to pick it up they drove it over to the main lot and have it a quick wash and off it went. It is up to the selling dealer that buys it from auction and sells it on to do the detail and all the servicing on it. My Jetta was actually pretty clean when I got it, but the moonroof leaked. Luckily it was fixed under warranty though.

Do dealers generally do any maintenance/replace parts to them when they buy them back? I'm looking at a 2015 with 46k and it seems decent, but I'd like to know what else to look for
@DIVISIONINCISION3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what dealership bought it and stored it. I bought a used 2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDI from a huge dealer in Houston. They completed all the VW's required fixes and the basic maintenance as well as new tires. It was clean and has that extended warranty on the diesel particulate filter. It was extremely low mileage (15K miles) and only about $10K. It was truly one of a kind...
