You have learnt wrongly, mini leds' lifespan can last tens of thounds of hours on average. If they aren't used at full power, they can last 50-100 thousands of hours on average.

​@@G1PicardNo, OLED lasts even less than LCD mini leds, that's for certain, and definite burn-in can't be hidden; just look at RTings' longevity tests. 6000 hours is a very low number of hours for mini LED LCDs. They will certainly last much longer. Generally, mini LED LCDs have a longer warranty than common LCD LED panels. It's a very reliable indicator that mini LEDs in premium panels (not like Chinese brands Innocn or similar) are more reliable than relatively cheap LCD LED panels. I have several LCD LED panels that have been used for around 10,000 hours, and they are still functional. It seems that there are no articles specifying the exact number of hours mini LEDs will last, and even if there is one, it's almost negligible; we need to have several of them. G9 Neo was released more than 2 years ago. There are people who use theyir panels constantly for 8-10 hours per day and there are still no any reports about broken mini leds, so it's quite reliable to say that they can last more than 5000 hours for certain. Talk to ChatGPT; it knows better than you do.

As an owner of both types of displays I can tell about my experience. I have a TV LG C9 OLED since 2020 and it’s the best image I’ve seen so far. I don’t know about the newest panels but I believe they are even better. When it comes to best quality image, OLED is the champion, but it deserves greater care because burn in issues. My TV has 1.000 hours of use and many burn in points. You can only find the dead pixels if you run Pixel tests in KZbin. Daily use you will never find any burn in, but they exist (I’ve counted at least 50 dead pixels). I only turn on my Tv to watch movies and series and usually start pixel update. So the burn in is a reality. I have two monitor, Samsung G7 and Neo G9. Both are great panels but not even close to OLED when they are side by side. The difference is unbelievable. OLED smashes the QLED, but take a note, only when both are side by side. When you don’t compare to OLED, even the QLED looks gorgeous. As a monitor, the QLED wins because I don’t need to think about burn in all the time. After thousands of hours with G7 and more than one year of daily use with G9, both with wallpapers and static pictures all the time, I only got about 4 dead pixels in my G7 and no dead pixel in my G9 so far. As same as the OLED, impossible to notice in daily use, you can only find those burn in areas when running KZbin Burn in tests. My opinion, based in my daily use is: If you want a TV, go to OLED. Just remember to take care and always run pixel update to avoid burn in pixels. If you need a monitor showing lots os static pictures or game hud, go for Led panels. If you have a lot of money to burn buying new monitor often or don’t care to burn in, buy an OLED monitor.

@@redcrimson1028 LG tells you NOT TO DO manual refresh unless you have to. Since doing it too often wears out the pixels and makes them more suseptible for burn in. It is only a manual option for extreme scenarios or if you lose power while it is doing a pixel refresh. Otherwise it does it at its own intervals.

OLED is not fit for monitors for me, it's better on TVs, laptops, phones. Every OLED monitor has blurry text because of the sub pixel layout which is a massive deal breaker for anyone who uses their computer for something other than watching movies and gaming.

I purchased an Alienware AW3423DW earlier this year and so far I've been absolutely loving this monitor. I just finished playing through Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart 2 days ago and let me tell you, the image quality and overall color accuracy and presentation is unlike anything I've seen before. I was looking at my screen and giggling like a little child while playing this game. The game is really good as well btw, I would totally recommend it if you're into action-platformers!

You forgot #11: Usage OLED monitors will NEVER be widely considered as "desktop monitors" if they can't fix the subpixel layout / text clarity problem. Either Microsoft has to change stuff on their end or manufacturers have to find a way to fix it. But at the moment, OLED monitors are just not suitable for normal desktop usage. Who actually buys a monitor to just play on them? Pretty much everyone uses it for web-browsing, youtube and to do some work. Its the 1 reason why i am not gonna buy OLED right now since for me its 90% work and only 10% games.

The high response times are good for higher framerates, but without image interpolation, OLED sucks at 60fps or lower. Moving images seem to stutter/judder. A lot of people complain about brightness, but if you're not playing with a window next to your screen, you'll be just fine. Talking from experience (Corsair Xeneon owner).

Perfectly said! Comparing a 32:9 VA vs a 32:9 QOled (both Samsung Odyssey monitors and HDR up to 1000 nits) oh boy.. it's Night and Day in SDR.. If you move to HDR... then It's like comparing Monochrome VS Colour CRT Displays back in the 80's. I also find the text issue non-existent in my case (and I am a software engineer where I stare at my screen @code 80% of my day and 20% I game/watch movies) at 100% DPI at that 5120x1440 resolution. For me OLED was a major changed (in a very positive way) from the VA panel I had before. :)

Well VA kinda sucks. Would take IPS any day over VA but OLED is the better choice for most yeah. Would love to see more OLED monitor options and Ultrawides with 240 Hz + QD-OLED. Should come soon.

Have both. First QD-Oled panel did have a stuck or dead pixel, which I replaced with the same model in perfect condition. Mini-LED, brightness is nice but once you get used to Oled, you really notice the "halo" effect and lack of contrast in complex scenes. They also tend to use VA panels in order to get better black levels, but that brings with it the ghosting issue. Oled, while not as bright, feels like it gives a much more "perfect" image, which is buttery smooth due to that insane response rate. Burn in is the biggest fear for me, as I use a lot of productivity apps, and the constant pixel shifting + automatic screen refresh can be both annoying and distracting. For a pure work monitor, Mini-LED works quite well as long as you can deal with some halo and ghosting. Also there is the issue of pixel layout to consider for text. QD-Oled uses a more CRT like pixel layout, you see a tiny bit of chromatic aberration around text and high contrast images. LG uses a more traditional layout with white LEDs tossed in, so its a bit sharper. The mini-LED screen I have uses a BGR layout rather than a traditional RGB, still not the best for text but not horrible either. Some users have flipped their displays upside down to fix that.

@@riannair7101 The mini-led 4k panel I have by samsung was released this year. It is "real" mini led. Both OLED and Mini LED have room for improvement, both have pros and cons. This is still the starting stage for both as far as mass consumption goes. All monitors can get burn in btw. Its just a question of tolerance. I have personally had two IPS ultrawides get burn in for example, the usual windows taskbar burn in. OLED just gets it easier, which is the concern. Brighter displays increase the rate of burn in.

@@zuflis Oled vs mini-led text clarity is based on pixel layout. Samsung's QD-OLED is considered worse than LG's W-OLED. A brand like Corsair, Alienware or MSI usually uses one of these panel types for their OLEDs. Mini-LEDs with VA panels tend use the BGR pixel layout, which is a reverse of the traditional RGB, and considered a bit worse for readability. I don't think any these are a big enough deal to hinder the readability of text, but some of the more unique layouts such as QD OLED does require a bit of adjusting. Its always less noticeable if you sit far enough away from the display, smush your face up against the screen and yeah you can see a lack of sharpness in certain areas of the text. To answer your question, OLED is still my favorite choice but if you do a lot of computer work you have to crank the brightness down and have things like screen savers or sleep mode active when there is inactivity, just to be safe. For the most worry free experience while having a brighter display, Mini-LED makes more sense. You could get a 4k 43" Samsung Neo G7 for a few hundred less than a 1440p OLED monitor/4k 42 inch LG C2. My wife is using the Neo G7 for her remote work, runs at least 10+ hours a day with Nuke open (software application). It is a VA panel though so sitting distance is important if you want to avoid a slight saturation shift at the furthest edges.

Colors on QD-OLED is just amazing. I have 3 OLED TVs and the first and last was the biggest jump (LCD -> WOLED and WOLED -> QD-OLED). LGs WOLED stagnated too much even with MLA it needs more color volume. Hopefully LG can solve this.

LG would need to ditch WOLED to solve that: It's that white subpixel which clamps colour volume, among other issues. RGB subpixels will always have advantage over that WOLED pixel structure, no matter if it's about colours, or rendering text.

Price barriers aside, the biggest concern I have with OLED is the burn-in. For that reason I wouldn't use OLED as a workstation desktop monitor for displaying stuff with static taskbars or user interface. I would only use it for dynamic content like games, movies or work applications that have you chance and move the content constantly/regularly. Maybe you could use it for graphics design, but display the static toolbars on second display?

But I have had my LG 27 inch OLED monitor for almost a year now and it hasn't shown any sign of burn-in. It's had an instance of where pixel was just frozen, but that was fixed by refreshing the monitor

@@Nam-mj6op not true at all as even RTings only really recommends to use them for gaming and content consumption. If you are a person who is using their monitor for something more work related with gaming on the side you will and can see burn in as little as 4 to 6 months depending on workflow ( have seen this far too many times on far too many different panels. And yes I see them come back in 4 months to 6months and 9/10 people will say they used it for more work, desktop usage and gaming secondary ). Yes even LGs WOLED. And that is measures in place, there wouldn't be measures in place if it wasn't an issue. I personally love my QD OLED but burn in is real and its still here.

Burn in is real… especially for desktop use. I use an LG C2 OLED for gaming and movies - it is gorgeous, but that’s all I use it for. For web browsing and repetitive gaming, I use a 27 inch mini led (I just couldn’t stand ancient IPS even as a secondary screen after I laid my eyes on OLED lol). However, I can assure you that burn in is real and rather common. Reddit is flooded with burn in posts - and RTINGs even tested modern displays like the LG C2 and despite being resilient, it did eventually get burn in from 1800 hours of use. That my friend for a productive desktop driver or competitive gamer that plays 5-8 hours of WOW etc each day equates to burn in in under 2 years

I've had a Neo G7 for a while now, and recently wanted to try out OLED. I've tried and returned LG c3 42" (too big) , aw3423dwf and OLED G8 (21:9 nice for pc games but not great for 16:9 content and console gaming, also not 4k) Maybe if there was a 27 or 32" flat 4k qd oled I would upgrade, but until then I will keep using my Neo G7, or maybe try a 27m2v or 32m2v... lower contrast than neo g7 but brighter and better colors. higher response times at 60 fps though (old consoles)

The real question for me is would you rather have a good 4k 27 inch monitor with lots of local dimming zones like the GP27u or a 27 inch 1440p Oled? Basically much higher pixel density vs better responsiveness and slightly better contrast.

I get it; mini LED is brighter but you have to have so many freaking dimming zones so there's no blooming. I've had them all from the Asus pg32uqx to the new Asus 27 aqdm. I would take no blooming any day of the week then having to deal with full array local dimming. Of course were talking about HDR here; sdr doesn't really make a difference with different panel types. but HDR is where its at anyway in a nice dark room! great video subscribed!

yea the local dimming shit looks bad at times, especially when browsing the internet or certain programs. So I turn it off and use it for productivity, and game on my OLED or IPS monitors depending on the game. I have both INNOCN and LG OLED. Love the brightness of mini-LED though. Both have their pros and cons :)

@@rattoh I too bought the innocn 27 160hz. It is by far the best full array local dimming monitor I've ever used. The absolute closest to OLED I've seen. To tell you the truth it's better than my 32UQX. 27 inch size with that many dimming zones is pretty dam good. It'll just get better and better; when OLED gets super super bright with like 360 Hertz it'll be freaking awesome. But by then they'll probably be some new crazy monitor technology. At times I wonder; why do I have all these freaking monitors? I'm like a crack addict for monitors. But ever since the Asus PG27UQ (back in the dawn of HDR PC gaming) there was no going back. I'm such a HDR fanatic. Glad I found a fellow hobbyist!

Another thing to consider is that brightness can actually be worse for smaller regions if the TV is designed to minimize blooming at all costs, which I think is the case with the 2022-2023 Samsung TVs

Anyway for desktop uses i think Mini-LED is just better for a normal PC monitor because you simply don't have to worry about the burn in. The only way i'm getting an OLED panel for a gaming PC monitor is if it has at least 4 years burn in warranty. But in any other regard i'd definently prefer OLED.

My next one will be an ultra widescreen MiniLED, because I dont like glossy panels. There are a few displays announced (i have my eyes on an Lenovo Legion Ultra Widescreen) which will deliver a very good all in one package plus competable when it comes to gaming and working.

Most people havent seen a top of the mini led. For example, sony only use to put their glossy mirror like finish on the 85 inch of the mini led, not the 65 or 75. Samsung is semi glossy aswell, not the fully thing. Tcl qm8 this year has pure glossy on all screen sizes. If you see a pure glossy mini led, the gap between the two are smaller.

Oled for Media Consumption. That's just Movies/TV shows (which are shorter movies just in a series). Not even for watching News. MiniLed for anything else. The only place where Oled can be used for gaming is in an Internet Cafe. Where you don't have a taskbar at all, just an interface with a list of games and people don't do any productivity tasks at all. That's why you will never find a 75 Hz FHD Office Oled Display. They're usually 2K or 4K at 240 Hz. Basically, premium extra high refresh rate displays, for people in the Cafes, who want to pay extra to play on a great display.

I find mini LEDs are unsuitable for desktop use because of blooming, especially on mouse cursor. You could turn off local dimming on monitors that support it but at that point it just becomes a regular LCD

​I just built a new pc with a 7900 xt which should run 1440p very well and can get close to good performance on 4k. But from what I can hear 4k OLED is just not there yet (for me I think). Nvidia 4000 series is not really worth it unfortunately, but I am probably going to upgrade when the next series launches. At that time they should be able to run 4k at a proper framerate also 4k OLED 144hz 27/32 inch should be available. So for now I will probably purchage a 1440p OLED monitor.

The Fact i cant just turn on the display and let it be like my old Led monitor for 13 years disqualifies every oled monitor instantly. Whats the benefit of image quality if i have to replace that thing every 2years because it sucks ass and dies on me because i had Word open to long and no darkmode. if i buy a monitor it has to last atleast 10 years +.

I think the same, but I've never used or seen an OLED personally and LCD technology I've always thought was rubbish. The more I research the more I miss CRT screens. It was just a matter of finding a good one and that's it, but now every monitor and TV is problematic in some way. Crude evolution of technology. I'm not a nostalgic person, much less the type who thinks things were better in the past, I always want evolution, but technology has been very disappointing in recent years and has created more problems than solutions.

Since I use my PC for work and entertainment so low SDR brightness, burn in, and bad text readability are deal breakers to me. I will stick to LCD (mini led) till micro led becomes a thing. And I hate watching content on my phone when the room is lit cause the glossy screen just suck IMO lol.

Burn-in can happen with LEDs too, but the issue is way overstated. RTINGS has a long-term study going on with OLEDS and even they say the current protections are sufficient for any mainstream monitor. Unless you intend to day-in day-out run the same content with static elements you will have no issue, I personally logged hundreds of hours for work and FPS and other gaming on a particular 2017 OLED laptop and still use it with no burn-in. If a panel from then is fairly reliable I assure you any mainstream panel is fine. The other point is few people use a monitor for say ten years, sure SOME do but the bulk of gamers will usually upgrade within a five year period, and in that period OLED will be fine.

Question: I see everyone talk about Oled burnin but how much of a problem is it, the longest serving oled screen I've had was my Samsung s8 phone that i used for 5 years with not a trace of burnin If mostly gaming and watching movies would burnin be a problem, considering the fact that everything in the game moves, or will UI totally destroy a monitor after say 1000h of gameplay?

I have an LG nano-IPS screen. I think mini-LED has come really close with looking like a standard OLED panel. And OLED technology has come so far in preventing burn in from happening. But me personally, I don't want to risk it. I'll keep using a mini-LED monitor on a PC because of the still UI. Right now, I have an OLED TV which is considerably more reasonable when the screen is more than likely not on a still image that can cause potential burn in.

We could've solved all these issues that LCD has a long time ago if they had released SED/FED tech back then in the mid 2000s......I'm so over LCD tech and these little fixes(not really)here and there...FFS....KILL IT.....If we had FED/SED, that's it most problems solved and we wouldn't be stuck with sub sub sub sub par monitors.

I recently bought the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 (UHD 165hz 32" VA Mini LED) and it's a great monitor, but it's very washed out, even in SDR. I have to tweak the settings to get the colours to look rich, but this creates bad black crush... Not 100% happy with this display, and that's a true shame. Came from the Gigabyte AD27QD (1440p 144hz 27" IPS) and man, that monitor (aside from the poor text clarity) is an absolute champion

I love OLED and own the AW3423DW and its easily the best monitor I have ever owned but yeah. Its still an issue after all these years and its not really getting much better like a lot say it is. If all you do is watch films sure it will last an insane amount of time, but gaming on it? Well that depends as so many games have cluttered HUDs and HUDs tend to be within the same areas as well. If they can prevent burn in then sure it will be better.

Neither one is a "waste of money". And "all LCDs" are not garbage. My monitor with a Samsung VA Quantum dot panel is excellent. Best LCD I have ever owned, including the IPS panels I have had. It may not have the contrast or perfect pixel response of an OLED, but for the size of monitor I bought, it would cost me at least another $500 to purchase the same type of monitor using OLEDs. Do I think it's worth that extra $500? No, I don't. When OLED or mini LED gets to the same price as LCDs, THEN I will think about switching.

It is obvious who is better at picture quality now. What I really want to know is who will advance faster and further next 5 years. 1. make the tech cheaper 2. get ahead at pic overall quality 3. get rid of anything like burn ins (this is still a big downer for some of us) I personally bet on miniled. Burn ins is not something that can be easily passed. All these years, after so many improvements, this downside is still here. yes, OLED became cheaper, and we are getting close to the decent quality oled monitors which coould beat those of acer asus and gigabyte priced at 500-600 dollars. Neo G7 (curved va) or 32m2v (flat ips) are the best 32" options, both have over 1000 dimming zones. search google for mini led list and look at the displayninja list. compare the ones you like on rtings or youtube video reviews. the display guy has a video on the 32m2v and 27m2v, and the neo g8 I believe, although neo g7 is better than neo g8 because it does not have the scanlines that neo g8 does.

While OLED is definitely impressive in measured response times, the technology is held back by the sample & hold nature of displays. So in actual clarity it's a much of a muchness type of deal. Of course BFI can improve on that, however that cuts brightness down enough for OLED to be too dim to really deliver impressive HDR. In the end, both are currently flawed & it's all just preference. Neither is really better than the other.

Because pixel shift isn't on all monitors. It's crazy that anyone would get an oled monitor when it's been proven over and over just to get a lg oled tv. I get it's a size thing and you don't want it to big but a 42 inch oled isn't that big compared with 50 55. The last tv to have 120 hz bfi was the c1 and you would At least think they would switch over and give that to the monitors but no.

I would say the only thing that's positive about W-OLED monitors is the higher hz monitors because they can take advantage of how fast pixels can turn on and off / change colors. It's like 00.3 something. It's masseur not in ms. It's lower then that.

Phones can suffer from burn-in too. They're usually just not on for long enough at a time to cause it. Always on display however can have the clock burn in (a friend of mine had that happen).

We're still years away from microled taking off... Oled manufacturers could fix the burn in issue by then. Oleds will be so cheap in the next couple of years Microled might not stand a chance... it'll be a high end option but might never break out of the modular 85"+ design because of pricing.

I would go with the 16:9 monitor if you play a lot of console on it. I burned the 16:9 aspect ratio into the AW3423DW while clearing out my PS5 backlog before selling the PS5 off. Got the replacement and only use it for it PC gaming now. Never had any HUD burn in from any of the games I played just the 16:9 aspect ratio as those pixels forming it are technically static and the pixels either side are off, so the middle will burn in a square simply due to the amount of uneven usage.

I think the g8 has many issues. Alienware offers 3 years of pixel perfect no burn in guarantee replacement for free as well. I also really don’t like Samsung products for some reason. I just never have luck with them.

​@@Charles13X Not all have pwm issues. It's dependand to the settings as well. Some people may have issues with letter shifting. However I cannot confirm. I think OLED is still better than most other options. High refresh rates, different nit-distribution, high peak nits, blue light combined with flickering and little dimming zones are most dangerous. Additionally it's the combination to listed with poor resolution and low ppi. All this can become very arduous to the eyes as well, resulting in headaches. So each panel type has some issues, but it'd rather see most of them in other paneltech.
