As someone who has played since SF2 came out and Alpha 3 is my favorite so I know classic controls. Modern just feels right with fighters like Guile or Zangief. I never expect to beat a high level pro but anyone else gg!

I hated modern with Chun. It seemed her fireballs only came out by charging *exactly* back; charging DB just gave her honshou (spelling?), likewise charging DB and moving to back. She also loses SBK without inputting it naturally and several key normals. I think I'd feel more comfortable playing one of the new characters on modern than a legacy character.

For when I switched to modern I adopted this layout. (M) (H) (Auto) (nothing) (L) (Sp) (DP) (DI) This let's me throw using the normal method i've always used, do supers by hitting V-skill and a direction, my ring finger can hover over auto and DP for when they're needed, and my pinky is on DI. This has been the most comfirtable solution for me, but it did take a bit to not press heavy when i was thinking medium because it sits in a spot where MP would normally be, but i've gotten used to it now and enjoy it.

Modern controls are definitely something serious players should lab, even if you don't plan on using them. Modern controls have distinct advantages and disadvantages, and we should take time to familiarize ourselves with the system. Whether you like it or not, modern controls are here and we got to treat them like an annoying character, and lab the matchup. One of the concerning things about modern controls though, is that there are certain option selects that only work on modern controls. And as veterans know in this community, powerful OS's can make or break games. Also love what you said, about it's hard to beat something that you hate. Essentially, you're letting your opponent tilt you before the match even starts. This hurdle took me years and years to overcome.
@crosscountertv Жыл бұрын
Exactly, I'm glad I spent some time with it because you never know what you find. For example, with Ryu, I found that his Autocombo #1, AUTO+Light, Light (i think), was st. LK xx Donkey Kick. Once I saw how easy it was in Modern, I started incorporating it into my Ryu game because I could see how Modern players could get a lot of mileage out of it. And there are definitely a lot of OS possibilities. That's currently above my paygrade, but somewhere out there, someone is working on something grimy right now. It took me a long time to realize it as well, that's why I try not to think too much about what I like and don't like. Luke is another example. On one hand, it's easy to get triggered by him, but on the other, I do see that he is the new face, so unless I don't see myself playing Street Fighter much longer, I better start to learn to deal with him, otherwise it's going to be a constant source of negative energy.

Thought's on changing stick buttons? Setting tradition LP to DI, LK to tech, Shen pushing the rest along one button... so ur old PPP is now HP if u know what I mean
@crosscountertv Жыл бұрын
yeah I can see that working if you feel more comfortable with DI on the left side. IMO setting one button to throw is a waste unless you have extra buttons to spare or have difficulty teching

Also modern control may allow people to control and play effectively even more characters allowing for more counter play.

One-button Super seems like it would be a big deal in scenarios where you're able to punish things you wouldn't otherwise. And yeah I think Modern is useful for learning new characters. Not necessarily to main them, but to gain a better understanding of how they work so as to fight against them more effectively

Cool Video Gootecks!👍I am definitely going to try characters on modern controls. But I will say that I don't think Hitbox is much different than learning a how to use a fighting stick coming from controller if anything its easier. Typing is easier to translate into button presses as opposed to moving your entire hand/wrist for the motion. hitbox is a keyboard fighting stick if you can type you can play hitbox 👀.
@crosscountertv Жыл бұрын
The learning curve is steep either way. I've seen many lost souls try to switch from pad to stick and give up in the process. It doesn't matter what you play on if you don't practice effectively and aren't willing to build the muscle memory
@chaosic08 Жыл бұрын
I used to play fighting games on keyboard way back in the day! I personally think certain things are a lot easier and precise using that kind of control, but I could never for the life of me figure out how to do SPDs on the keyboard 👀
@jadedbreadncircus9159 Жыл бұрын
My biggest hurdle is the physical layout of the buttons. I trained the HitBox layout on keyboard in SFV first, & after finally getting my Snack Box, I was losing on easiest again. I was used to my keys being close, & being able to hit lp+lk with one finger pressing the gap between keys. I get physically lost on the actual stick, but I assume it's another learning speedbump.

Holding back for 2 seconds is stupid It artificially forces defensive play
@millerwrightt Жыл бұрын
Not as much as you think! Since you can hold backwards during moves and jumps, it doesn't restrict play style as much as limit the usage of very powerful moves
@crosscountertv Жыл бұрын
That was the idea in SF2. Also, I don't think it's a coincidence that Guile, a defensive character, is in the US Air Force, aka part of the Department of DEFENSE. As to whether that's stupid, that's a matter of personal opinion
@KillahManjaro Жыл бұрын
That's if you only relying on special moves. most charge characters have better normals than other characters so you should be exploiting that. If you're relying on special moves to win with charge characters you won't do well. they alson teach you meter management and spacing. You can play rush-down with charge characters, you just have to work on your pre-charge timing as well as plan a couple moves ahead in advance. I'm a Ryu main and I love to use charge characters, I wasn't feeling any of the charge characters in SF5 but in SF4 I used Chun, Guile, Deejay, Gen who was a hybrid and Honda and will be going back to Deejay in SF6.
@crosscountertv Жыл бұрын
Yeah many charge characters, including Guile, have normals that move them forward so they can advance while still maintaining their charge.

I need an honest unbiased opinion; as a aspiring Juri beginner who had practiced time and time again, my practice is immediately thrown out the window due to in game anxiety so i have mis inputs and finger slips, cold hands the lot. Do i try modern? But use it to play in baby steps and once my anxiety goes away, try to go back to classic?
@millerwrightt Жыл бұрын

@crosscountertv Жыл бұрын
You should probably play with Dynamic first, then once you get the hang of it, then try Modern
@KillahManjaro Жыл бұрын
You should play more casual matches until you get more comfortable. in casuals you don't have to worry about losing points and you can experiment more. forget about winning the match, if you can pull off a move in casuals that you've been practicing then that's a win. just build on those little wins and you'll get better over time. Fighting games is one of those genres where losing can make you better, as well as having a short memory, don't dwell on those bad matches you just have to know why you're loosing and how to correct it. Use the replay function and study what you are doing wrong and fix them. As for modern vs classic, I'm riding with classic. I understand the need to have modern with newer players and player retention. I feel classic will be more rewarding in the long run.
