Is Our Cheap BMW 130i Better Than A £50k Audi S3 On Track?

Our BMW 130i gets its track debut at Bedford Autodrome, and we've decided to see how it fares against some more modern competition in the form of a brand-new Audi S3. The Audi is 20 times more expensive, so if the 130i isn't too far behind or perhaps even a little better in our series of challenges, it'll have done us proud!

Well, the thing is... If you can buy a relatively well maintained BMW like that for that price, or even double the price, 5k, you can pour some love money in it, tune it finely, and make it disintegrate the Audi, and do some nice trips with all the money you saved from buying the new one.

Channels took a massive nose dive since Alex, Ethan and jack left, not surprisingly as those lads made this channel what it was and were the reason for us all tuning in every week. Anyone wanting to enjoy some decent car videos you can still find Alex on “autoAlex cars” and you can find Ethan and jack on “all the gear”

I bet a fresh set of tyres, some suspension tunning, nice cleaning of the engine, fresh oil, good 100 RON fuel, a bit of more sensible driving could easily shave 4-5 seconds of the beamer! I still thing this is one of the last rear wheel drive hatchbacks you can buy and it could prove with another 2.5k a bargain for the years to come. Not a boy racer , but a beautiful old school quality piece of engineering.

The 130i is special. The n52 is a masterpiece. Cars like these give so much more emotion which modern cars lack.

Personally, I couldn't give a toss whether the Audi is faster. A rwd will always be the more rewarding drive. Every single time.

@geoffwatches each to their own I suppose. For me, the likes of a 2017 BMW 218i, which runs about 140bhp (although I might be wrong) is more than enough for a British b.road blast.

3k for my 130i....get yourself a carbon bonnet it reduce its weight even more along with the struct bars front and back from Ultra Racing...you'll see some difference there...oh and put on some KONI suspension like I have 🤙

Ive no doubt the new car is faster, but your not going to have $45k more fun with it. Simply buying a cheap car for the track is fun & your enjoyment doesnt increase proportionally to the cost of the car. a drastically more expensive car isnt providing that much more fun.

A BMW is frustrating in general. Their cars are just meh. They get beat by cars worth half the cost. Have a M5 and M2 friend and their cars are bad on track compared to my Camaro, then I wreck them on the drag strip. European cars do good for their HP per cylinders, but damn they suck for their specialty.

Exactly like my old 130i, but they’re not fast. My old mk6 golf gti was quicker. 130i doesn’t have anywhere near enough torque to be fun.

Everything is dirt cheap in the UK. I was also looking at these and a decent one is 9-12k. Even a really crap one is 8k.

That was a gen older but it had 500bhp and some mods… I assume that 130i had some mods as well, but at the same time I think those mods are focused on handling

Am i tripping or did this guy say the successor to the 130i is a 4pot m135i xdrive?.... Thats the successor to the M140i which is the successor to the M135i.... come on guys. Fact check if you know f all about cars.
