Not at all, the baby knows who is his momma, and she is feeding him. A hungry baby would be crying and lethargic, not playing and bouncing around. He was just trying to get comfortable next to Peaches, not trying to nurse. That is a happy and healthy baby 👍

Jesse is simply fulfilling her instinct to be a guard donkey. As long as the baby goat is nursing, I see no issues 😊

I sure am no expert on donkeys but what I have heard through watching various farm channels in the USA is that donkeys are natural protectors, so I think Jessie is simply doing something her natural instinct's tell her to do, protect the newly born baby ❤

Good morning Brooke! I think as long as Jesse is letting the little buckling nurse on Capri, all will be well. Capri’s mother’s instinct will not diminish. Capri has to keep up her milk and needs time for herself. There are no other little goats right now otherwise the baby would be together with them. Watching all their interactions really is a beautiful thing to see!❤

I do believe donkeys are natural protectors because it's in their DNA. I also believe donkeys are smart for the same reason. I recall how Jessi was loved and immediately accepted when she moved to Cog Hill. She was new but definitely made to feel welcomed by Brooke, Jason and MaryCarl. All that together may have factored into how Jessi is reacting to Lil J. It's also so special that we are allowed to see these touching moments. Thank you for sharing such heart-warming experiences!

Jesse has good instincts, but lacks the experience to know how to use them, but she will learn in time. Capri is taking advantage of having a good babysitter in the pasture, if Capri didn't want Jesse near, she'd head butt her away from the baby. 💖💖💖

Jessie was pastured with baby goats. She never hurt any of them. I watch Arms family and Do Your Best. It is a natural instinct in donkeys to be protectors..

Jessie just came from a community of donkeys, goats and a lot of other animals. I believe animals have feelings and it probably wasn’t easy to be taken from his 1st home. He needed a job and for whatever reason picked the baby. I think it’s wonderful that Jessie feels needed. This is probably part of his transition. He has bonded with y’all and has bonded with all the animals and now the 2nd new kid on the block. ❤

Brooke, I also have a mini donkey. They can be protective. My mini loves my horse who is a adult mare. They can't stand to be separated. Maybe Jesse sences he's a baby and needs protection. It's a good thing. She'll help protect him. As long as she's nice to the baby and doesn't keep mom away, it should be ok

I think Jessie is doing what her guardian instinct is telling. She senses that the baby is vulnerable when Capri goes off to eat, so she steps in and guards the baby until mama is finished. I also think Capri senses that Jessie is a protector so she is quite happy to let Jessie babysit.

Both pigs and donkeys help raise the babies whether or not they are the mother. It very common for them and their instincts to help raise the babies. That is one lucky baby goat.

I have watched a couple of rescue donkey KZbin channels and they talk about how important it is to let them have at least one other donkey because they want someone of their own kind. Jessie is probably just lonely. I guess donkeys and horses are the same they need to have another the same as themselves to share their lives with. Wouldn't hurt to get another one right? Lol... Donkeys are incredibly intelligent. They also don't do well being a lone animal. Jessie will do this with all new babies, if she can. What you need is another donkey...not for breeding per se. Donkey's a social pack animals. We have "normal" size donkey's (4). All four are always within the vicinity of one another. All get along, but they are paired. If I see Misty, in a field, Ranger (her partner) is within close distance. If you get Jesse a mate/friend (another mini donkey) She will not want to mother another species. Guarding will remain strong in Jess. But she won't interfere with another species mothering it's offspring. My wife is a DVM and we have lots of animals on our ranch.

Donkeys form strong bonds with other animals. Jeffrey Dean Morgan...owns his Muscheif Farm...and has donkeys. A couple of years ago he heard about Jack and Dianne a bonded pair in need of a home...jack is a donkey...and Dianne is an emu...they couldn't be separated. He gave them a lovely home where they can always be together. I have seen donkeys form unbreakable bonds...they need to care for another...it's beautiful to see
