Last lTe september i got yo see tge brown moh tain lights. It eas. It was quite spooky walking on that pathway from the observation lookout place back to the parking lot. This fall i plan on driving over from kingsport,TN to camp out on that old nc hwy 105 road nearby wisemans view turnoff.

As a new NC resident, I'll be doing this trail in my tundra. It's easy enough for the average truck and SUV to go on. So kudos for families getting out of the house and off the electronics.

This past Saturday night 9/16 I drove on old nc hwy 5 north from lynville up to Wiseman view to check out the brown mountain lights. I will most definitely be driving my new Colorado Trail Boss and camping out this fall along that highway.

I have camped along Old 105 once...was tough to locate a spot, but did find one...and that was on a Wednesday or Thursday. I have been along there twice before, but not looking to camp...but was on a weekend and yes, most all places will already be taken up. There are many people who will arrive during the day on Friday...and some on Thursday afternoon / evenings. By Saturday morning, almost impossible to find a spot. Then you have some locals who will show up mid-week and set up a junker tent to "hold a spot," and never actually show up in camp until Friday afternoon / evening; that is complete BS and should not be allowed. First come, first served ! Free dispersed camping in North Carolina, in general, is not plentiful...that's a key part of the problem.
@appalachhaun_adventures6 ай бұрын
That sucks! Shouldn’t be able to do that and hold spots while they’re not there!

@@appalachhaun_adventures - Those two chairs you saw at that campsite down that side path, and you left 'cause you thought someone was camping there....I would not be surprised if that is what someone had done. I don't know what day you were there, but someone could have just left two cheap camping chairs there to deter people. Then they don't show up until a day or two later. If someone ignores it and steals the chairs, it's no great loss.

@@YTusercomment I haven’t really had any thoughts that I wanted to go back and camp there. Maybe on a Monday or Tuesday while school is in session and not in the summer 🤔 idk. Haha I don’t like it that busy where I camp.

I live not far from this road and have been up there many times including this exact day you were there. That day was honestly the worst I've ever seen it. If you go early spring or during winter (when all the leaves are gone and visibility is best), particularly during the week, its much easier to find spots and its not nearly as crowded. Ive been watchint your videos trying to find more spots to ride my 91 4x4 Ranger through. They have certainly been helpful!
@appalachhaun_adventures7 ай бұрын
Ya they were handing out parking tickets left and right that day too from people parking on the side of that road but still on the road near hiking trails I guess. It was pretty busy. I’ll have to go back more and check it out! Some of the camp sites did look pretty good, IF you can snag one hahaha

@@appalachhaun_adventures I understand. If you camp during the weekdays you may be treated to a few fly bys by some fighter jets. They go down the gorge. Very cool. It does get crowded. And some of the local drug heads fly up and down the road. It can be dangerous if your near the road.

Being too busy does not mean its overrated. Not many places you can camp and get views like that.

That’s true. I like camping to be more quiet and secluded, but that’s just me. I’m sure it’s really nice IF you can grab one of those spots with the views. That’s a lot of work to pack up and head out there to not get any good spots 😂
