I love the bit in this film when they put up the Tricolour for the first time in 4 years (banned by the Nazis) on top of the Prefecture. Very enjoyable film all round. The book on which it is based is also a good read. Thanks Tadlowmusic!

Great piece of music by a great composer--some of the other renditions available here are kind of shopworn....this Prague orchestra lead by Nic Raine did this thing to perfection......thank you.

Éste fondo musical inolvidable acompañó a la entrada de las Tropas Aliadas en París, en agosto de 1944, para liberar, junto a los partisanos, a la capital francesa del dominio alemán. Por eso se le llama el Vals de la Liberación...!!

I love tis overture! Starts with dark and foreboding tones and ends with the city in spring. A must see WW II movie that ends so sweetly. 21123

Great song from a great movie. Double combo!!
@jslasher15 жыл бұрын
Why do you call this a 'song'? I think iTunes terminology [which incorrectly refers to all music genre as a 'song'] has ruined your concept of what form of music this is. To correct you, it is an 'instrumental' orchestral work.
@ChrisNovak-ProfessionalNerd2 жыл бұрын
@@jslasher1, this “instrumental orchestral work” has a name. It is called “Overture / Paris Waltz”. Therefore it is not only a tune / theme, but it is also a dance - a waltz. When listening to it, my mind’s eye can see the tempo, and imagine a ballroom full of dancers, waltzing to this music. Don’t be so hard on @Jeffrey Kozinski; I’m not musically trained either. So even if he didn’t get the music jargon correct, he and I can appreciate the genius of Maurice Jarre in producing a lovely piece of music for Is Paris Burning, as well as his other great works in Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, Ben Hur, and more.

Yes it is I have the cd to Is Paris Burning and I have the movie, I know from history and WW@ that the movie is based on a true story but I wonder how much the movie embellish, I have been trying to find on Amazon the true story to the French Resistance fighters who fought to liberate Paris out of the hands of the Nazis but no such luck so far

@@stretch-fd4dg You could start by reading the book on which it is based, by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre. It is available at Amazon.com.

Geoff Love recorded the waltz, which is quoted within this overture, however its a separate piece of music.
@markiewj494 жыл бұрын
Waltz for sure. Wondered if Geoff Love's version was an arrangement of Jarre's original score? Nice to hear again though.

Nic Raine is a competent conductor, but sometimes it seems that his concern is with the quality of his re-recording (thus inducing some changes) and not with his fidelity to the original recording. This is what happened with "El Cid": small changes were made enough to decarterize the Miklós Rózsa style to show Nic Raine.

Not a memorable rendition. The Prague musicians are simply not up to the complexities of the overture. And where are the 10 grand pianos?

Very well done. At last a new recording(digital) of this music that I have been hoping for is accomplished. Thanks to this orchestra and youtube. I owned a vinyl of the sound track and eventually a cd when it came out. If only digital recording was available then(in 1966) that soundtrack would have been tremendous with all the drums, cymbals, trumpets and in addition as I recall, Mr.Jarre was using 12 grand pianos in his orchestra to record this soundtrack. It would be so wonderful to hear all these instruments without any distortions !!! What a joy ?

As I recall, given that this occurred some 48-years ago, from a conversation with Richard Rodney Bennett, during which time he was visiting Denver, where I was employed at the time for TWA. RRB informed me that his agent asked him if you would perform as one of the ten pianists in the soundtrack. Bennett declined.
