For some reason, sound has always seemed to be a key into a (subtle) shift in consciousness for me, even before I related it to spirituality. I don't always have access to this key, but, when I do, it works even in the noisiest of environments such as on the subway. I find it helps a lot if you gently rest your eyes on one area of the visual field as you dispassionately observe the morphing stuff of the soundscape, otherwise, your eyes are constantly flitting about, thirstily looking for new data. When you get it right, it's as if there's actually no difference between the visual and auditory - the many blurred dialogues in the subway carriage somehow are part of that dangling strap your eyes are directed towards. And, when you do get it, there are many spontaneous changes, such as in the way you're breathing The difficulty is maintaining this attention as thought inevitably tries to swarm back in again and again.

As far as human awareness goes, reality contains two vantage points: subjective reality and objective reality. Subjective reality is the perceived reality of an individual. That which one can fathom, perceive, or experience is what is believed to be real. From this vantage point, a multitude of realities can exist simultaneously. Since no two individuals can experience reality from the same perspective, there are as many subjective realities as there are sentient beings. In the realm of subjective reality, real can be anything that has a real effect on the person who perceives it. This is due to the fact that subjective reality is a totally personal experience.

The first of what i called at the time "religious" experiences I had was when listening to music (Overture to Tannhauser). It was so beautiful and I listened intently, an overwhelming rush of thoughts of birth, death and the beauty of the cycle overcame me and the floodgates of the mind broke. I remember laughing and crying at the same time and realizing that even if I were to die things could not be anything but ok. It only clicked a year and a half ago what this experience might be and I became a seeker. Always very grateful for your videos and pointers!

Hi Angelo, wonderful video thank you. I get triggered by certain loud noises especially traffic noise where I live where there's very loud motorbikes and cars with very noisy exhausts which lead to explosive angry reactions in me periodically. Listening to your video made me wonder if there is a way for me to be with these very triggering noises? I do wonder if it's possible as it's become an automatic fight/flight response in my nervous system but maybe there is a way I can be with it, it's quite unbearable at times.

Yeah, sit in a calm way without distractions such as phone and listen to various noises. If one causes anger or frustration, really listen closely and see if the frustration or anger is actually intrinsic to the noise. Unbelievable video. The sound topic is very interesting. I have tinnitus due to slight hearing loss, and I take meds which help lower the ringing in my ears. My new ENT wants me off these meds and I am resisting this. Your video here is seeming to guide me in some direction towards accepting the tinnitus. Are you saying ringing is normal? It was a little confusing. If I could learn to luve with tinnitus with no medication, that would be wonderful. Are you saying this is doable, or am I way way off the mark, Angelo??✌️🙏🙏✌️.

Definitely doable. At least worth a try. I can't know what others hear but I definitely have medical tinnitus but I don't resist it anymore so I find it just fine/enjoyable. Several people have told me they stopped resisting and it became quite tolerable. Mine is louder than most ambient soundscapes in rooms. I have same experience with some pains states I've had.

Hi Angelo, Thank you for this. There is another question I would like us to talk about. How do we hear? We have been taught that we hear with our ears. I believe we hear with our entire body. Our habitual perception and scientific medical entrainment confirms that the ears are the auditory organs. Believing this to be our hearing technology has added to our deep entanglement to matrix. I had an experience that I can only describe as hearing with my right pinky. In other words, sound transmitted through vibration of a body part other than the hearing canal. I would love some further understanding of this available ability, that transcends common understanding of how we hear sounds.
@SimplyAlwaysAwake2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t recommend simply replacing one belief with another but rather tune into the hearing so fully that there is a distinct and irreversible shift in perception
@joy22532 жыл бұрын

Hi Angelo, do you have an exercise to do while I'm working (analytical/technical mind work in my case). I try to focus as much as I can for efficiency reasons, is that the correct approach to "awakening" while working? And what about if I'm listening to a podcast? Is there a way to use the listening of a podcast to awake (while absorbing the required information)? If it sounds silly is ok, maybe I'm trying to have the cake and eating it too...
@SimplyAlwaysAwake2 жыл бұрын
try to bring in the senses while you focus, ioe sensations of the hands on objects, sensation of feet on the floor, some attention in the ambient sounds, you'll notice more and more moments when thought occupies attention unnecessarily. Be patient and work on insights outside of work and they will naturally flow over.

Thank you Angelo...I fear that during a successful meditation is the only time I really have the freedom to investigate these things bc I (not sure who I mean by 'I' here really) can loosen my attachment to the trough (self) of the wave and dissolve more into the crests (sounds, etc.). For this reason, would you recommend trying to cultivate these meditative states more as a precursor to investigation, or would you recommend investigating why the sense of self is so clingy and why sounds are less captivating during non-meditative experience? What we call a soul, is a data collector. We are its probes. Perspective creates perception, perception creates belief, and belief creates experience. The experience that belief creates for you is what you call "truth."
@SimplyAlwaysAwake2 жыл бұрын
On this channel I essentially point the opposite way. First deidentify from thoughts/beliefs, then find out what you really are. Then deconstruct that and at that point it will become clear whether there is a soul, what the nature of experience, perception, and form actually is.
@midplanewanderer95072 жыл бұрын
@@SimplyAlwaysAwake I'm in a similar boat as ne14truth; lot's of preconceived notions or suspicions of reality, but there's lots of pitfalls in Inquiry if one isn't careful whilst stripping-away everything to it's core. You can get savaged by the energies invoked. I've tasted satori here and there over the years, once even heard/felt the "Silence," unbidden, as a dynamic ringing-less ringing, motionless motion (very hard to articulate that peace that surpasses all understanding) but it only lasted five minutes. Can you hear/feel the Silence right now, all the time, as a pregnant void of infinite frequency/potential from within and without? If so, lucky you.
@SimplyAlwaysAwake2 жыл бұрын
@@midplanewanderer9507 there are probably just a couple fire thoughts that are holding you/or you are holding onto when you do self inquiry. They are often along the lines of “every time I get this far this happens…” or “I always get stuck here.” Or “I’m not waking up because this _____ is being experienced (sound, sensation whatever). Once you disidentify from the very “close” thoughts, often the bottom will fall out

So there is no perceiver ... but if I listen to the sounds around me and they are heard, as you say, but them I close the window or put on headphones, then those sounds are no longer heard, so the that which hears must be "me" since I can control how sounds are heard (or perceived).

See how you have to think theoretically to "find" a perceiver? For instance if you stay present and the headphones are but on the sound would simply morph.

I would examine the belief that you need silence. What if there is no such thing as silence apart from sound? Also when you say “something annoying.” I would really take some time to investigate when something seems annoying where is the annoyingness? Is it actually IN the sound, person, taste, whatever we find annoying? Is it a quality of it like shape or color or tone is? Why is this sound annoying and that sound isn’t? Etc etc. keep looking at examples in your own experience abd keep an open mind. The beliefs are what is binding.
