Been to so many, it's hard to pin one down. But to be honest, when talking bang for the buck, it's hard to top Texas Roadhouse. Not saying their steaks are right up there with the big boys, but they're not all that far off and when you factor in the price, I'd actually give them the edge. It's our go-to for casual steak dining.

This was the best steak I've ever had, although I confess that my steak journey only began maybe 18 months ago. This was my first dry-aged steak. I had the Ribeye, which I normally am not fond of -- for my normal wet-aged, I've always been a Filet Mignon guy -- but this was just amazing. So tender, so flavorful -- I did not use any of that sauce they provided. I also enjoyed the Wedge, and the bread (which I generally avoid unless a place is know for it) was solid too. Damned pricey for me, but comparatively speaking, I have to say it's worth it, especially considering it's center strip.

Really into french fries. Those look really good. Um. Fancy cut of steak look like it just sitting there. It have less 'to say,' visually, than a lesser quality slice of beef. It what I notice about these expensive steakhouses. Beef look like it was once alive, maybe better way put it. Crab cake, and sundae. Really yummy, looking. I think I rather eat at 'dive' and get bigger margarita and shiny prime rib, look like it gonna give you heart attack, although I had to stop eating like this, like 18 years ago. It was ordered as is, no additional toppings and it was delicious. The steak sandwich was good too, it was served with horseradish, but the hamburger was the best. I agree with your opinion on the shrimp cocktail, for the price and the size of those shrimp, it was great . And I would definitely recommend anyone ordering them as a appetizer. The wedge salad is big enough to share and has that chopped bacon. Definitely one of the best wedge salads I’ve ever had.

Comparing it to several other steakhouses in Vegas, I’d say it’s one of the best. Most of the others are similar in taste. Peter Luger certainly knows how to make one of the best steaks money can buy. Drinks are expensive but are priced the same as other Vegas steakhouses.

I can't comment on Vegas, as I've never been there. But I have been to both NY Peter Lugar's. There may be "better" steak houses, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better dry aged steak. If you really want to do Peter Luger's right, order the steak for two, for three people, and everyone get an appetizer. The apps are large enough to be a meal, all on their own. And yes, the sides are for sharing as well. A steak for two, 3 apps and 3 sides could easily feed 4 people. And you'd all be too full to walk.

But I make skewers in the summer with flank steak wrapped in bacon with a Luger sauce glaze cooked on the grill . With the porterhouse and ribeye you eat that the way it comes out screaming hot is the juices and butter . I use to go to Peter Lugers every Sunday with my wife before I moved to Tampa Florida . I actually get the sirloin most of the time at Texas Roadhouse. Hard to beat the rolls, salad, loaded baked potato and a good steak for under $20. I found the filet and other higher cuts to actually not be too far off from the sirloin so just go for cost when we go. The prime rib is decent as well.

Crazy to think that a NYC restaurant goes elsewhere and actually charges more!
@jbjacobs951411 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for your review! So, tbh, going to PL anywhere else but Brooklyn is kind of fraudulent. It is just not the same. The lady that is (or was, not sure) in charge of the aging process and the cuts of meat is sensational and she explains everything. It is a family thing with them. Also, I LOVE the PL sauce, but it is salty. It is great on the steak if it isn't seasoned (personally I think all steak should have a tiny bit of salt seasoning on it). If you use salt, do NOT use the PL sauce as it will be way too salty and make you almost sick from salt! Also they actually will practically throw you out of the restaurant in NY if you use PL sauce ON your steak. I don't really agree with stuff like that, but it is an institution and an iconic restaurant so I am not going to argue. They do use a butter drench on it, but I can understand why to some, it might not be enough. If it is a good enough steak, it really doesn't need too much seasoning at all. I cannot eat a steak that is red like that, but we all have our preferences. I stick with dry aged, and I will stick always to filet mignon personally - it is the best. My dad was a steak connoisseur, but strayed from dry-aged ONCE to try and he nearly got sick at the restaurant - he did not eat the steak after a couple bites and wasted $50 at the time on it (this is 20 years ago). Never again. Now, on prices - while if you go there in NY, it is "worth" the experience to do it but in reality, NOTHING ON THIS EARTH is worth those kinds of prices or the kinds of prices that you will find in restaurants (even before COVID) for food/drinks and for concerts and entertainment and sports, etc. ESPECIALLY liquor. I used to be a heavy drinker (vodka) but I cannot ever see or feel the need to spend a lot on alcohol. Just doesn't make sense to me, but again, preference. But that is another story.

Beef tallow (rendered from fat) is what every restaurant used in the past. Even McDonald’s used beef tallow for years. It’s better tasting and healthier than nut or vegetable oils. I mean Canola oil started off as lubricant for Canadian naval equipment. Who wants to have WD-40 in their kitchen?

Is it worth it, no. I can go to a place near me and get a really good 16 oz. boneless ribeye steak dinner for under $30, with tax and a soft drink. It's called Club Phoenix in Bartonville Illinois. So you go to Peter Luger and pay $300 for a steak dinner, I do not care how good it is, there is no way that steak is 30 times better than the $30 steak dinner I get a Club Phoneix. So for me, it is just not worth it. And if you did a blind taste test with my $30 steak, and the Peter Luger $300 steak, I bet most people would like the $30 one as much or more than the $300 one. Now if it is a one time thing to see what a $300 steak is like, I get it, but would I go there every week and get one, never. For the extra price, it is just not worth it. I also know a place that does pork ribs that is as good as anyone, a half slab of ribs with 2 sides is under $20, including tax, and it is amazing. It's called Smokin Notes BBQ in East Peoria Illinois. The ribs are really good, and fall off the bone tender, the BBQ sauce they use is home made, and amazing. I get the 2 sides as fries, because they are so good, they are hand cut with some of the skin left on, and I get extra sauce to dip the fries in it. And btw, a full slab with 2 sides is $30, which is plenty for 2 people. In general I think a lot of food is over-priced, like lobster, I would rather just have a good whole catfish dinner for $13, breaded and deep fried, than a $50 lobster dinner. I actually like catfish better than I do lobster, and it cost about 10% of what a lobster does. I get a catfish dinner at another place near me called the Fillin Station, every Friday is fish day, they have catfish dinners for $13, and bluegill dinners for $11.50, with 2 sides and a hot roll. So you can have your $300 steak dinners, not for me. I am more than happy with my $30 ribeye steak dinner, I eat half of it, get the rest to go, and eat the rest the next day, so I get two steak dinners out of one $30 steak. And $25 for a drink is insane, I am not paying more than $5 for any drink, around here a soft drink at a restaurant is about $2.50, a mixed drink at a bar is about $4.00 to $5.00. The bars also give you free soft drinks if you play the slot machines. So I can go to a bar and get a steak and a free soft drink if I play a slot machine, then sometimes win back what I spent there.

How is Luger's compared to The Steak House at Circus Circus, Hugo's or Oscar's?
@JoshRachael11 ай бұрын
We have not done Hugo’s or Circus Circus but would guess it is definitely a higher price point from reviews we have seen. All of those are very old school classic in style, Oscars we know a lot of people who have enjoyed it, but we did not have a good experience there with bad service and an over cooked steak. If you want the more classic style I would go with Golden Steer over those listed personally
@jstones987211 ай бұрын
guys the Luger steak sauce is NOT meant for use with the steaks. It's for the Tomato and onions!
@JoshRachael11 ай бұрын
Why do they bring it if we didn’t get tomatoes and onions?
@jstones987211 ай бұрын
@@JoshRachael they bring it to every table been doing that in Williamsburg NY since the 1970's. Its a dressing designed for the tomato and onion dish. It was called a steak sauce because it was developed in a steak house way back when there wasn't a high quality steak house in every major town in the USA. Just like they serve creamed spinach and german potatoes to 90% of patrons. What really made them famous is being the first or among the first to ever present that menu. Of course now they all do it. Try sliced onions , tomatos and the steak sauce at home . Simple , but good and way overpriced in the restaurant for what it is. But we all get it. Cheers

Since it appears that you believe that this comically overpriced place was "worth the cost" to you, you have basically told everyone that you have no credibility.
@JoshRachael Жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel Mikey, have you eaten at a top end steak house on the Las Vegas strip in the past year? While we felt the drinks, dessert and side was $3-5 too much the steak was not wildly overpriced. It’s not our style but some people may love it. Find a top end steakhouse with “steak for two” or two steaks large enough for two people order under $150 and then you will understand why the prices don’t scream wildly overpriced to us.
@mikeymutual5489 Жыл бұрын
@@JoshRachael It may be in line with other Las Vegas steakhouses, but that doesn't mean that any of them are worth it. Especially if the food isn't absolutely mind-blowing. Just because you are OK with badly overpaying, doesn't mean that you should recommend anyone else do it.

Once again, just another rip-off. To pay almost $400.00 for a steak dinner? I live in Brooklyn, home to the original Peter Lugers, and the prices are not as high. But why do people allow themselves to get ripped off, is beyond me. There's a sucker born every minute!! All you're doing is paying for the name, which is shameful. That being said, we all understand that you are doing these videos for a reason, and that you are making money from KZbin, so that is allowing you to splurge on expensive meals while on vacation. For the regular working man, this is completely outrageous. Just because a person decides to take a Vegas vacation, does not mean that it's an invitation to get scammed.

Shrimp and crab did not look good on your video, sorry. Was not impressed with either. You took forever to get to the steak review, more than 7 minutes. And I wasn't going to sit and watch through your whole video. It didn't surprise me that you, overall, weren't as impressed with the Peter Luger steaks as you hoped you would have been. Missing some extra salt? You kept the review of the steaks towards the end and I predicted you were not going to be fully satisfied. The plates also were not cleaned when the steaks are put on them. I would downgrade it for that as well. Nothing special about desserts. I'm not visiting Peter Luger with any undue haste.
