AVAA but professor you are so wrong about Popular. That is a unanimous summer BOP, it definitely did not just come and go, it has almost a billion plays on Spotify 😂 Playboi Cartis little refrain on that is so catchy, that’s all he needed to do. The beat is also infectious. You should bump it more

@tieshintekashi7Ай бұрын
IMO, this is a good song. But not because of Carti and Abel. I think that this is more Mike Dean and Pharell's track than it is theirs. The beat is so infectious that you could put basically anyone else on the verses and it would still be a banger - and therein lies the real issue with this track for me. It's a good song because of the instrumental, not the main artists. If I had to come up with a percent arbitrarily, I'd say this is 15% Carti, 15% Weeknd, and 70% Pharell and Mike Dean.

Not tryna dick ride carti but I do think he deserves a little more credit for using 3 vocal presets in a single verse that’s fairly experimental imo. Agree with the rest though the beat and production for sure carry

AVAA A little thing that I noticed in the lyrics is that he seems to reference all 3 of his albums throughout his verse. This first one is a really big stretch, and I'm not sure if he's packing this much into his lyricism. But maybe he references his 2017 Self Titled "era", by referencing a Lil Uzi bar from when they were apparently working together heavily. - “Pockets hold twenty-two clips (Ah) I break her heart, Comme Garçons” Uzi’s bar from his 2017 “Sauce it up” - “I was on the phone, yeah, with Playboi Carti (Woah) Comme des Garçons (What?), hearts all on my cardi' (Swag)”. Uzi also has two songs from the same album titled "20 Minutes", and "Two". Then he directly references die lit - “She singin' my songs, she wanna DIE LIT” Then he references WLR - “I'm wrestlin' all of my DEMONS, I feel like The ROCK” Genius has superficial annotations for all of this, but I decided to apply the theme of timelessness to it and this kinda checks out. Referencing all three distinct periods of his career so far, "Ever since I was a jit, knew I was the shit".

personally carti's verse and his different voices carried it for me. about "jit", the first time i heard it in a track was in "moonwalking in calabases" like 4-5 years ago, from a Michigan rapper nonetheless. also, nav, someone not too far from the state, also used it in "double faces". now neither are the kind of tracks that might be in your radar or be artistically worthy of discourse in this channel, but it should be alright to be used. appreciate the caution taken tho. the way it was used by carti is pretty boilerplate imho, which still does not take away from the verse for me. avaa

I thought apart from the hook, Abel was on the lukewarm side. His verse didn't sound well thought out from catchiness standpoint. Carti on the other end sounded better to me. Travis scott point is a bit valid though. His flow also sounded a bit like Sold Out Dates by Gunna.
