Since the last European parliamentary elections in 2014, nationalist right-wing parties have made significant gains in many European states. Does the growing influence of right-wing nationalism pose a threat to the ideal of European unity?
To understand what moves Europe's citizens, DW's Max Hofmann traveled around the continent seeking the perspectives of key players and those directly affected by the major issues of today. For example, how the migration drama on the southern coast of Italy originates and ends partly in eastern Germany. Or how right-wing populists in France try to lure in voters - and how comparable political forces in Poland have used similar tactics to gain seats in government. In investigating the topics of environment and climate protection, Hofmann visits the EU Climate Change Dossiers and the EU's largest per capita plastic waste producer: Ireland. Through each trip, Hofmann seeks to better understand the connections and centrifugal forces at play across Europe.

DW bias Here I fact checked for you!! Youth Unemployment Rate in Greece decreased to 38.80 percent in February from 39.30 percent in January of 2019. Youth Unemployment Rate in Greece averaged 35.54 percent from 1998 until 2019, reaching an all time high of 60.20 percent in February of 2013 and a record low of 20 percent in May of 2008. What ever happened to the principle of subsidiarity, which used to be a tenet of the European Community, which emphasized keeping politics as local as possible? While many Europeans are happy to be free to travel and work throughout the EU, and can appreciate a common market, I hear never ending stories about how local practices have to be abandoned or banned on account of the latest EU policies. From whether people can make liquor with their own fruit, slaughter their pigs, or face broader restrictions on firearms, etc. in order to maintain a European standard, the EU gets itself involved in almost every aspect of lives. Plus, many conservatives are right to be wary of a political union that can serve as the means whereby liberal jurisprudence and interpretations of human rights (i.e. on abortion, gender, immigration, internet censorship, etc.) can be forced upon the whole of Europe. And for all of the positive aspects of Germany, the tendency of many Germans to fashion themselves as the rehabilitated models of liberal democracy and tell other European countries how they ought to behave like good little Kantians can be downright nauseating.

Many young know how people leave contrys searching for better payd jobs. Old people are forgotten, taxes are rising sky's because of EU standards. Small businesses are gone...For the government own people don't care, most important is to kiss eases of Briusel and do everything what thay say..Doesn't matter it's ok or no to local population...Rules,regulations,political correctness, "freedom of free speech"... Yes,union is ok,but what's ok in Germany it's not ok in Lithuania and what is ok in Lithuania it's not ok for France or Italy...Why they dont understand that?? Different cultures, people, history it's not possible to do the same...Its important to keep this way different, otherwise we can throw away our ethnicity,history...Its dosen't matter anymore...Just learn same language, financial system is already tha same...And have tha same flag...Who cares...

16:45 She said "These changes isolate Poland A LITTLE BIT in the European Union." The translation is not entirely correct. In Poland judiciary has never been de-Communised and since kids often inherit careers from their parents we have whole Communist dynasties in judiciary. DW doesn't want you to know about it. EU should return to its free market roots and not become a super-state interfering into independent nation-states internal situation. Maybe in 100 years Europeans can become one nation but that's not the case for today.

A populist who lies is a demagogue, isn't he? On the european stage the far right nationalist parties try to work together, yet the only thing they found incommon to agree upon is that they don't want europe. What do you think that would lead to in terms of relations between nations which can not agree on anything, but that they want to be apart? If you think the rich would be in a worse position with nationalist leaders, think again. Many of the current nationalist parties have already made great efforts to get in touch with economical leaders and get support from them. Do you really think that support comes for free?

It appears that journalists in Germany as well as the UK, are failed or wannabe politicians. These kind of reports watch like a campaign ad. The sensible points they make are undermined by editorial spin. The closing sequence ignores the simple and obvious, and historic fact: a free trade Europe is a good thing (it's what Britain voted to join) but that is not what the EU is nor where it is going. And as for the judge from Poland: while any political interference in the judiciary is undesirable she is just advocating a different source, the EU, pledging her legal allegiance to its Court not the Polish whose taxes pay her salary. But as in Britain, those, like this journalist, that cannot conceal their sneering contempt for those who disagree: arrogance always leads one way, "pride before a fall."
