Another aspect of power creep that people dont talk about is that all the major/iconic Marvel names were created in that first year of the game. A major draw of this game was getting to play your favorite heros/villains .... but now with all the power creep your deck is mostly B and C tier marvel characters.

I have said it many times but one of the things I like the most about Marvel Snap is that they buff old cards, as where other games just let old cards in the dust at least Marvel Snap feels like its trying to compete against that powercreep and yeah I agree with Cozy that it can be the solution if they did it more often or more risky with cards you know would be fine to buff

Power creep has become a problem, but I think Cozy has the right idea that OTA's are a better solution than either rotation or power creep. They should try to be more creative with the early series cards. For example, I think a better Mr. Fantastic buff would have been to have him add his power to adjacent locations. His power might need to be adjusted accordingly, but then he has synergy with Surfer, Forge, Galacta etc. So he's not OP for early game players, and his power level scales as you advance in your collection.

I feel the way to buff some of these cards while keeping their flavor is to make cards that specifically synergize with them. Like why not make a card that reactivates your guardian cards, or gives them a unique effect if they aren't activated. In this way they can buff the cards without making other cards more or less viable.

Mobious can become a 2 cost/24 power plus card, but let's keep someone like Elsa bloodstone at a 3/3 that adds +2 on a very circumstantial bases. It's hard to compete if you aren't playing meta decks, which is a loss for us all.

But that’s not what power creep is. Power creep is when as new cards release, the typical power level of a card being released goes up and up, leaving older cards obsolete. Morbius is older than Elsa. Power creep is how being a 3/5 on older cards comes with something that is either a downside or requires playing around, and building around. But now the new cards release Luna snow is a 3/6 with an upside. Or how cull obsidian is basically just crossbones but better. Morbius is just a card that performs absurdly well within his archetype, and regardless of if you think it’s a good thing or bad thing it’s not power creep

It's still power creep, because that makes bullseye a powerful card by proxy. That WHOLE archetype with collector etc skyrockets in power and is hard to keep up with because of the new cards release. The problem is so simple. Active and frequent. On a bi-weekly basis buff the 5 least played cards and look at the top 5 played cards and tweak them or cards that interact with them.

White Queen is the definition of Power Creep. She used to be good statted at 4/6 but now she’s useless. Her effect does not justify a 4 cost anymore and she certainly doesn’t have the power to back it up, it’s sad. Annihilus is another example, Sersi and Viper kinda taking his spot.

I wonder if they could make Rescue kind of like Angela except that it gains power each consecutive turn you play on her location. I'm not sure what the numbers would have to be for balance, but it would be must play in decks with Kitty, Angela, and Hope Summers.

The thing about stats is if you don't have the actual data, it's really hard to interpret them. Victoria Hand may be a terrible card but her fun factor keeps her in losing decks in some scenarios, and in others be the best card in a better-than-average deck and the reason for the deck's success. Without being able to see the data, you just wouldn't know which way it went...

When you take a look at what most people are playing (they look up the deck with the highest winrate on the internet), you understand that powercreep is needed by SD. If they print cards that are not going to be broken, people will just play their old "best winrate deck" and not buy the new one. Seeing so many players complaining about power creep baffles me

14:18 you do want to invest in a card, and a playstyle, but you won't see a return on it while the game rewards those that farm their wins using whatever the current strongest disruption meta happens to be. Either play the meta so you get your cubes, or get your preferred playstyle dragged through the gauntlet until you can't take it anymore.

That Ares Mill list had low stats because I don't own Surtur so I played Ares Mill to complete my weekend missions, and given how long it took me to get to 4 wins I think I dropped that deck's win rate by five percentage points all by myself...

Ares Mill is so much more reliable AND fun in my experience. Destroying the enemy's deck actually works and I won a good amount of games and found it more reliable than being let down due to luck in Surtur😂

Having to keep selecting bounties for alliance is very cumbersome. Bounties should always be generic and active all the time for all alliance members. Ex: A bounty is Destroy 100 cards and whole Alliance can work on it.

I almost Never comment on things. But mention my favorite game ever (Heroes of the Storm) and I'm popping in and giving all the thumb's up, lol :D. If anyone likes Moba type games, it's still active and kicking with ameature tournaments and all of that. What Alex is saying about it though - 100% untrue in a grand scale. This happened for about 4-6 heroes out of the Approx ~100. They for sure had some misses where they didn't expect it to be so good and had to dial back. Had a few where they had to totally rework and make them better. Now the game gets ~2-3 "OTA-type" updates a year and nothing is 'super' OP compared to the rest of the hero pool.

Powercreep is a pretty big problem. The fact that there isn't a vanilla stat line that they stick to is insane. A 1 cost should have x power, if the card is over that it should have a downside or need a build around, if the power is lower it should have a beneficial effect. That simple rule would fix the problem 😂😂😂

I think an avenue of balance snap could take is banning certain card combinations. They are touching on that with Legendary cards coming up (we guess), but I think if they wont do rotations, which I agree doesn't fit the game, then they need to do something to even out the playing field a little bit.

I've always had a problem with Baron Mordo, thematically. Doctor Strange and Baron Mordo have the same stats but different abilities. What if we do this to keep on theme but still different than Strange: Baron Mordo: On Reveal: Move your opponent's lowest power card to this location.

To play devil's advocate to the Ares power-creeping the guardians idea, and I feel like this applies to so many takes like this... is Ares power-creeping Drax when Drax has just never really been playable? Like, it was the same with Cull on release vs Crossbones, is that *really* powercreep when the card that it's "creeping" just isn't good to begin with. I think the difference matters bc it's less that a card is getting powercrept and more that the cards just need to be buffed/reworked to begin with. Sure, "Why play Drax when you can just play Ares" is kind of a valid point, but it's more accurate to say "Why play Drax ever" bc Drax is bad, has been bad, and will continue to be bad without specific support, Ares doesn't really matter to that end.

I dont like stats being the gauge to determinehow good a card is either. During your conversation of Victoria Hand, you also have to take into account where those decks were before Victoria Hand. If that card is taking decks that weren't played and bringing them to a 54% win rate, isn't that much more impactful than adding a card to a deck that was already having a high win rare and making it a little better? I'm not saying she's better than Iron Patriot, but like it was said before, if you want to play those hand generation/Devil Dino decks, you will absolutely want to have her. Just like Scream was to that move archetype. Have to play it to realize the impact of the card.

It's honestly the reason why I don't play as much. I got into this game to play with iconic characters. Nowadays the meta is filled with characters I've never heard of. It's cool for a bit but I wished they had more consideration for old cards too. Just buff them a little, not much. They can still make money with the variants. If the card is good I'll buy variants for it.

yes, power creep is a problem! developers will make new cards with better stats to sell them. then they have to go back and revisit old cards to balance the game. eventually, this will lead to some cards never being played because their effects overlap with their power, for example, M'baku. he can't be a 1/3 because then his effect would just be an added benefit atop his cheap cost

Cozy saying power creep can be controlled before immediately saying they should add one power to more cards… seems counter intuitive. Personally I believe that you need power creep in a card game to keep new stuff interesting and that it’s impossible to make everything always playable. It’s nice when older cards get a boost ofc, I just see the best way of doing this being the introduction of new cards with strong synergies.
