I prepoo using an ancient Ethiopian recipe of avocado and ghee. I add banana, red palm oil and cocoa powder to the mix. It does wonders for my detangle, strength and moisture. Because I am using a prescription oil now for my alopecia, I became more worried about hygral fatigue because it requires that I dampen the scalp in hair prior to putting the oil on and then where the plastic shower cap included all night long and then shampoo it out the next day so I looked at that dermatologist and said not this hair . I work. So I just dampen the area where there's missing hair the point being I don't want my hair wet all the time and it would be crazy for me to shampoo daily there's no time and it's unhealthy for textured hair I believe, and I use a grocery store bag with my Bonnet on for no more than four hours because doing that also remoistens your hair which made me concerned about Hydro fatigue so watching but don't even know if I would recognize it if I got it

Once I began to prepoo, it made a huge difference in my hair's health. I use auyervedic masks, mostly fenugreek and aloe vera combined with a few other ingredients, and it's really helped my hair grow. I don't use commercial prepoos because they don't have the same benefits as my DIY recipe. I leave it on overnight and wash the next morning. My hair's not just benefited by this, my scalp is as well. I've been able to correct the breakage in my crown section using the fenugreek/aloe vera combination. It strengthens and moisturizes my hair at the same time. I've been doing it since the beginning of quarantine and almost all of my hair's grown back in fuller than ever in that area! I don't ever see myself stopping this process in my wash day. It's really helped me reach my healthy hair goals.

Amen to the fenugreek which I started using a month ago. The amount of slip and conditioning is real and my crown which is the driest and most likely to break is thriving and even looks more moisturised on it's own before the next wash day. I have also used a small amount of fenugreek/amla and olive oil and honey mask as a pre poo after my tea trea quick scalp steam (takes 5 mins) and it made my hair very easy to manage when washing. Then used a lot of the mask under the dryer. The auyervedic route has saved my hair and it is thicker and stronger, nearly as strong as it was as a teen. Enjoying the journey and it doesn't cost a lot. My routine is to wash twice a month, slipped and left my hair for four weeks, but will be going back to two deep conditioning twice a month which helped me before I found the auyervedic system

I can definitely see that something isn't connecting here. However, I also noticed before I'd even heard of HF that my hair got sort of worn out when I deep conditioned for too long, spent an extended period rinsing/having it wet, and went without incorporating protein products into my routine. Hygral Fatigue seems to be poorly researched, it may even be the incorrect term for the issue a lot of us are experiencing, but we are experiencing it. It does exist. When I heard the symptoms of Hygral Fatigue explained, they resonated with me. When I heard its causes, I found I'd been doing a lot of them. And when I learned about the ways to treat it and tested them out on myself, they worked. We could call this a moisture imbalance, and for the sake of being as accurate as possible I think I'll do so, but even without the studies, we're still onto something here. I also don't believe pre-pooing is necessary for everyone at all times, but I don't think it's pointless either.

Can you elaborate on not letting hair go long periods without detangling? I mean I get it lol just wondering what techniques you have. Really struggling with this and I’m thinking about going back to relaxers cause of it
@sable71142 жыл бұрын
@@tiaramartin5657 I know you didn't ask me but hair is shedding everyday and the longer you wait, particularly if you're keeping it in a twisted or braided Style, the more buildup you will get. I am guilty of waiting too long because I think the more manipulation of the hair for more likely you are to get breakage. Some people have to moisturize their hair everyday other day at which time I think they probably detangle as well. I might do this in a week or even two weeks time but what works for me is rubbing a light oil like jojoba oil just a little bit on my hair and then Spritz it with a light layer of water an oddly if I started from the roots, I can gently slide the shed hair out but the technique is starved from The Roots and you can feel a little bundle of hair then go underneath that and start pulling some of the strands downward and then above again. I use a wide-tooth comb and sometimes my hair maybe a little bit thinner at the end so I will take a fine-tooth comb to gently remove that birthday, spread some more if needed but don't saturate your hair and oil and then retwist or moisturizer whatever you need to do after that depending on what your next step is shampoo or just going to work.

I love prepoo’ing because I see results. It’s especially important when my hair needs a moisture boost.

My hair strands are thin, but I have a lot of hair. So if I don’t pre-poo, my hair will be a tangled mess! I recently started using conditioner along with coconut oil to pre-poo & it has helped me even more.

I prepoo with aloe Vera gel. But I do it to detangle before I shampoo. Which makes my hair much more manageable through the whole process of washing. Doesn't take me hours to do my wash and go. Never prepooed to prevent hugral fatigue. Thanks for this video. OneLove❤️✌️

Hi! Always appreciate your content. I initially started prepooing so that I could detangle my hair before shampooing to avoid more tangles. Wellllll….for me, unless my hair is extremely matted I don’t see the benefit for me anymore bc I wash weekly and while I shampoo every time, I’ve found ones that work perfect for me end don’t cause my hair to knot up. ALSO….letting running water penetrate my hair for about 5 mins while massaging my scalp and releasing shedded hair-I don’t have tangles and the next step (shampoo) is a smooth one. So I’m short-there are ready made prepoos that I have in my stash and love how they feel but no, for my hair I’ve learned unless matted, I don’t NEED this step-I just like it.

I never prepooed until I decided to start taking better care of my hair and I do notice my hair is more moisturized and I can get 4 days between washes instead of my usual 3.

Hi! I pre-poo before I shampoo because it helps with detangling my hair. I use to use oils for my pre-poo but for some reason it started to be less effective, so now I use conditioner.

I pre-poo my daughter’s hair because she’s tender headed. It makes it easier to detangle her hair before I wash it. I do not do it to protect her hair from over hydration.

If the hair of people who do water sports and/or work in humid environments doesn't get damaged from exposure to that much water, then I don't see why moisture should be damaging for people whose hair is less exposed to water. People are just doing the most with these overnight deep conditioners on a weekly basis. I used to swim at least twice a week in my early teens and now rinse my hair in the shower about twice a week. No moisture overload over here.

I pre-poo every wash day. I have fine high porosity hair and it helps with detangling and removes shed hair and decrease my wash day routine. I just started this about six months ago and I love it.

Wow same here fine High porosity hair that tangles so easy. When someone suggested I try prepooing. I tried it and I and my hair loved it. Less tangles plus very easy to detangle. I said I will always prepoo!!

Pre-pooing is a game changer for hair breakage. I have only done it once and the difference in preventing breakage and the improved condition of my hair is noticeable and measurable. I don’t know about that hydra fatigue malarkey, but to help with detangling, pre-pooing is a winner! 👍🏾 🙌🏾 😉 Thanks for the very interesting video though 😁.

I never bought into the pre-poo trend when it first popped off on YT. I suppose it was the lazy natural in me -- I didn't want to do the extra step to an already LONG wash day (my hair's incredibly dense!). I always just made sure my hair was in 4 sections and well saturated with water before focusing on my scalp. I would have one hand stretch my hair as the other massaged my scalp to minimise tangles and then focus on finger detangling with conditioner next.

My experience with coconut oil pre-poo is that it works! Without relying on technical definitions, my first experience with 'hygral fatigue' (or so I thought) was when I would wash my hair for long periods of time, and after some hours, my hair would start to feel soggy and weak to the touch. While I wouldn't say the damage was permanent, it was something that took my hair about a few days to a week to get over that "weak" feeling. Once I started pre-pooing, I didn't have to worry about how long I stayed in the shower to wash my hair. Considering how kinky textured my hair is, this really helped my anxiety on wash days cause hair that is dirty + tangled + soggy is an absolute nightmare lol .

Not everyone does a pre poo to prevent hygral fatigue. I do so that i can detangle before i shampoo, if I don't i get a matted mess. My hair also gets throughly soaking wet quicker if i pre poo because its not dry and tangled when I start to rinse. Ive noticed a major difference with my hair since pre pooing.

That was a VERY short-lived thing for me, after returning to natural. I noticed my hair was harder after a wash day when using coconut oil as a prepoo.

So Im a guy and I used to have locs. I kept my hair in a tight style for a month and it caused traction alopecia and thinning (in addition to health issue). I was over seas and forgot products and washed hair with old spice body wash lol. Also went in the ocean multiple times with the style and never took it out. Once I realized that my hair had thinned I took it out and left hair alone. My hair used to be strong and resilient and now the texture change is different. Any amount of water makes my hair gummy and droops down and looks thin. my hair only looks strong when its dry most times. So it seemed like I do have "fatigue" issue. Especially since this happened in 2012 and I still struggle with it today. I adopted a regimen to repair the hair regrow the thinning areas as well as diet changes but coconut oil does keep my hair from being weak and droopy when I wash it. I was actually afraid to wash my hair because it would get weak so I didn't do it often until I learned from the community. Its like a puzzle and most guy videos are useless so thanks for all you do. Would love if you showed some more stuff around men with textured hair and how we can also grow healthy hair and keep it✌🏾

Great video as always! I prepoo in the past. I stopped to simplify my routine. I also used to deep condition overnight thinking it would help with moisture. I just started clarifying for two weeks now because I’ve been suffering with severe dryness and breakage. I even thought about doing another big chop.

Thank you so much for this video, I am in the process of picking out my micro locs and I am attempting to develop a natural hair care routine after 6 years. Caring for my locs was so simple so I am looking to make this routine as simple as I possibly can. This definitely made me look into deleting this step!

I’m not worried about hygral fatigue but pre poo to remove shed hair, soften and prep my hair for wash day. I use coconut oil (and light water or aloe juice/gel) overnight for the protein strengthening benefit it gives. ALove4Me and Naturally High talk about how coconut oil penetrates the hair strand and strengthens the protein bonds in the hair and my fine/medium strands, sparse head of low porosity hair needs all the strengthening help it can get! I believe Naturally high showed a study proving coconut oil does this. My hair feels better when I do it so I’m a believer. Love your videos! Thanks for all the research and great information!

I have never pre-pooed to prevent hydral fatigue. It is just to detangle and section my hair for washing. I wash weekly. I like pre-poo products with ingredients like aloe vera, fenugreek, slippery elm, and/or seamoss. I don't pre-poo overnight. I do it 30-60 minutes before washing.

I notice no one has any questions about using pH unbalanced products but that is probably the best part of the video for me and something that a whole video can be made on. The use of high pH products to me is something professionals need to deal with not people at home and they need to be handled in a way where the hair's current health is considered.

I now see the benefits of prepooing with a conditioner or deep conditioner. I prepoo with Africas Pride Aloe and Coconut Water pre shampoo or leave in conditioner, or a deep conditioner.When I do this I don’t have to deep condition my hair and my hair feels amazing and moisturized.
@sable71142 жыл бұрын
And I was about to pre-poo today but yes, I pre pooed with coconut oil in the past and then felt that coconut oil was bad for my hair based on on the fact that it acts like a protein so I stopped. Then later I somehow learned that if you rinse it out, such as in a pre poo, I would not get that effect of a protein treatment. Definitely would not use it for just moisturization but using it as a pre poo I feel definitely makes my hair more moisturize when the whole process is done. So it does seem to make a difference for the best in my case.

Thank you for this video in which I definitely agree on. When I went natural again 7 years ago, I looked for information on KZbin and eventually started prepooing and tried other unnecessary things. I noticed the negative effects it had on my hair so I stopped. Later down the road when thinking, it didn’t make since to me to put oil on top of the moisturizer and oils that are still on the hair. And as a child, my mother didn’t prepoo our hair. Back then we used hair grease/ hair dresser, which kept our strands from drying out and our hair was always in stretched styles which helped to keep the moisture in. Also, when I went natural prior to 2015, I didn’t prepoo. Decades ago as a young adult I washed my natural hair at least twice a week because of exercising, and although I would hot curl it my hair never dried out to need a prepoo. Now because of chronic pain I don’t stick to a regular routine and most times don’t put anything on it after washing. Of course that leads to dehydration so now I do prepoo. Once I get back to a regular routine in keeping my hair well cared for, I won’t have to prepoo. It’s not needed if you’re properly caring for your hair on a regular basis. Spritzing the hair with a little water is enough to help with detangling. With natural hair we should be able to use less products period, than when we were relaxed. I didn’t do deep treatments of any kind until my hair got relaxed at 18 years of age. I’ve gone natural twice before 2015, and when I did it became simple again using less products. And throughout I’ve maintained a head of near high density healthy, fine, and long hair with no single strand knots, split ends, protein or moisture overload. I never had single strand knots until I went back natural in 2015. Now I realize it’s because ages ago we wore our hair in stretched styles which didn’t allow the hair to wrap around itself. But because of physical challenges it’s easier to do a “wash n go” and then as it get old I wear high puffs, so it I get the knots now. Once my scalp and hair is fully healthy again, I’m gonna have my daughter blow it out and cut all the knots out. I’m gonna go back to twist-outs and braid-outs 2 days after wearing my “WNG” to keep knots at bay or at least a bare minimum. I’m sure there may be some exceptions especially due to porosity but, along with a healthy diet and a clean scalp, curly hair just need to be kept hydrated and moisturized on a regular to keep it healthy. 🙏🏾❤️

I've never once pre-pooed in my life, nor had it done in any salon when I used to go to them, and never even heard of it until I started watching YT natural hair videos. LOL I do finger detangle before washing using a little oil and water. But it's like 10 mins and once detangled I immediately wash, so the oils don't have a chance to do anything other than provide slip while I'm detangling.
@dominiquedevereux72052 жыл бұрын
My main reason for pre-pooing is 2 Loosen very tightly coiled hairstyles like the twist I create with my hair brush that are made to mimick comb twists/finger twists. Even when taking my time to detangle them, it's very time-consuming with some kind of oil 2 soak them in to loosen them up 1st. Using water 💧 works slightly, but since my hair is highly porous, the water naturally causes my hair to expand, which further tangles the twist. Excessive amounts of oil gives me the slippage I need without the swelling. The more important of the 2 reasons for me pre-pooing is to reap the benefits from dried herds into my hair & more importantly --- my scalp💆🏾♂️. I infuse my oil blend with powdered/dry herbs 🌿 for @ least a month in a glass jar so that way the medicinal properties of the messy dried herb 🌿 are imparted 2 the oil 🥥🥑 for easier application. Infused oil can also be used for use in body oils/butters & facial oil serums. But my main reason for beginning to infuse oils is to stimulate my scalp in the crown 👑 area of my scalp where I've been experiencing thinning & receding around my hairline in the front over my forehead, & to encourage hair growth since it seems my hair has been growing at an exceptionally slow rate for a few years now, despite a clean diet & healthy lifestyle. But I do have a chronic illness I've been battling for years, & I know that is part of the reason. And I JUST finished infusing a 32oz jar for about 2mos when I seen this video 😄. So now I have to use it up. But given my hair is only about 2 inches long (WITH shrinkage). So, it will take probably the rest of this year --- at the least --- to use it up. Plus, allowing the oil to sit on my scalp (I have a full-size hooded dryer like the 1s they have @ the salon), just feels soothing to my scalp. Also, "like dissolves like," so in my mind, part of me reasons that using the pre-poo oil to agitate the oil already on my hair & scalp, pre-lifts the dirty oil so it can be more easily washed away by the surfactants of the shampoo I wash my hair & scalp with --- the same concept behind using oil cleansing for the face. IDK 🤷🏾♂️. It makes sense on a level to me. BUT, 2 simply/shorten my wash days, after I used up this heapload of oil I've already, I'll probably 🛑 pre-pooing for a while. Lawd KNOWS --- my life can always do with some simplifying.
