My daughter is six and African American, and I'm a white male who's been learning how to take care of her mainly o curl pattern since infancy (I admitted since day one I had no clue and had a lot to learn). I'm involving her in learning how to take care of her hair, and I just discovered your channel. I am THRILLED because I see your videos as a way of learning together (they're AMAZING), and for her to have an informed discussion at the salon (she decides what she wants, not us - unless her decision will damage her hair!). Thank you!!

This is amazing to read. A father is her 1st love relationship she will have. Teach her about taking care of her insides too so she knows her self worth and the signs of toxic relationships. Most of all NO RELAXERS or texturizers.

With “normal” I guess you meant “medium”. The way you took her critique is very honorable!
@qwandary
@qwandary 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Nice to see it was accepted with grace, always a good sign, and partially why I hit the subscribe button! I agree with possibly changing it to 'medium'. We must remember how language normalises somethings over others if we're not careful. And just like how most of us have looked at 'nude/natural' tights that are peach, or skin tone plasters that are peach and looked at our own skin like 'huh, what am I then?' I think usage of terms 'normal' are potentially iffy unless they're used for an open spectrum, rather than a point on a spectrum. :3

To other black female youtubers that create videos about hair, please take notes. This is how a hair video about learning about natural hair and even caring about it should be. This video was detailed, informative and not only provided pictures, but also examples through animation. The black community needs to see more natural hair videos like this.

thin and fin do not mean the same thing. If you're seeing scalp, you have thinning hair, which does not necessarily mean you have fine strands. Nutrition might be the issue.

This was such a great series for naturals like myself who’s hair doesn’t mimic these popular KZbinrs. I’m so insecure sometimes the fact that my hair hangs down instead of poofs out. Also that my hair isn’t dense like say Naptural85. But this series really gave me confidence. Thank you!
@Michelle-pn9xt
@Michelle-pn9xt 5 жыл бұрын
Why would you be insecure about your hair hanging down?. I am looking at your picture. Based on the length of your hair, it would not poof out regardless of the texture. The weight of most people's hair would cause it to hang down at that length. If you have healthy hair, be happy! Black women have a wide range of hair textures and skin tones. Be yourself, and be proud of the hair that God gave you!

It is encouraging to see somebody state the positives of having fine hair as all I hear are the negatives. I have fine hair strands but high density hair so depending on how my hair is styled I often get comments of people saying that my hair looks thin ect. in a way that makes it seem like a bad thing. There’s nothing wrong with it, in most cases my hair is healthier than the person putting down my fine hair.

adedamola adenaike It may be hard but try to think about the pros of your hair type rather than the cons. Sadly this community seems to completely ignore those of us with fine hair whether thins strand or/and low density. It’s like we completely get ignored. It’s frustrating but I can only change if more and more of us talk positively about our “thin” hair.
@fayeola6616
@fayeola6616 5 жыл бұрын
@@abbieroberts3093 to be honest... I kind of resent when people talk about making hair thicker. Almost as if thin hair needs to be "fixed". Whats wrong with having thin hair? If your hair is naturally thin/fine, it will remain like that regardless as to what vitamins you take, products you use etc....its misleading to think otherwise, and perpetuates the idea that thin hair is undesirable.
@natural7ly694
@natural7ly694 5 жыл бұрын
@@fayeola6616 I believe the advice is for those who desire a bit more thickness if it's possible. I don't think it's meant to suggest that thin hair is undesirable. Whoever is happy with it, that's great. Whoever needs a little help can take the suggestions.

I’ve learnt from this that I have fine strands and dense hair. Thank you for the information! I always keep my hair stretched with African threading (I don’t use the yarn thread. I use the plastic thread) and my retained a lot of length thanks to this, letting my hair be by always having it in twists and applying Virgin Hair fertilizer. But honestly, stretching hair is a game changer! I can’t stress it enough.

Ok so I asked her and this is a direct copy and paste from a text she sent me: Hey so I use a mixture of avocado/coconut/jojoba then shea butter over it. Coconut oils in my conditioner. Coconut oil my main go-to. A lot of ppl for some reason don’t like it but it works for me! The key is I always use some oil to moisturize then seal it with Shea butter Hope that helps ladies! I don’t know exactly what products she uses (didn’t ask) but products are completely subjective depends on what your hair likes. I’m sure it’s not expensive and it’s something that can be found at Target or some beauty supply shop because my sister doesn’t roll with overly expensive/boutique hair products that are hard to come by.

Just thought I'd let you know, I find these videos helpful to understand my hair even though I'm white and not a member of the target audience. I have thicker and denser wavy hair. Not the thickest or densest, but it's above average for my specific demographic. Great videos! The thing that helped me was reversing my cowlick. It wasn't natural...my childhood barber trained it into my hair, and it was disrupting the flow of sebum and blood flow across my scalp. I was going prematurely bald at 27 when my siblings of older ages hadn't started yet! So paying attention to other outside forces can be helpful as well, as reversing the cowlick has taken years of experimentation and militant attention.

Lots of people with relaxed hair would get a cowlick from wrapping their hair in the same direction often. One area would form a cowlick from being trained to stay in that area.

My hair is both dense and fine but also thick and thin from top to bottom. From my forehead to the middle it’s dense and I think thin to normal size. While from middle to nape it’s thick but more fine than the top. The nape is like S and maybe some I very loose but as you move up a little it’s L to O for the most part and the very front it’s a mixture of like I and L together that’s makes it a different strand type. Never was bothered to to type my hair before because I treat it all the same and that other type chart was confusing and lame but this is more better to understand. Though I already mostly figured out what my hair needs already this is nice for the people who still need . Great video I was never this early before. 😃😃😃

Gorgeous pictures of you! And, another wonderful video, which is helping me to understand my hair more and more. It seems my hair is fine and dense. I have always said, about my hair "It is fine, but I have a lot of it." These days I am happy to still have hair on my head, as I will be reaching the wondrous age of 73 in June! I have an autoimmune condition and take medications, which contributed much to thinning over the past 10 years. Yet, when I take my twists down, my hair appears full... At the beginning of February, I started using your Onion Juice recipe weekly and I added ginger to the onion, garlic and red pepper. I love it and see great benefits so far, including a slight increase in fullness and about an inch of growth! I have had a burning question for several weeks for you, if you do not mind. Why did you not include Rice Water rinses in your new Onion Juice regime last year? I have included Rice Water rinses, along with the Onion Juice prepoo, so I know it will be difficult to determine, which one contributed what... But I do know that the Onion Juice mix is my favorite. The Rice Water contributes to dryness, which is inherently problematic for me... Sorry about the rambling long comment...

Just to add my 2¢, Biotin, as well as MSM, caused an increase in facia hair for me so I stopped using it. Not cute! I also find that henna helps with thickness. The way it coats my stands makes them appear thicker. Nothing drastic, but it's a healthy choice.

Also, I've seen dramatic improvement in my hair thickness since I've started doing protein treatments, worked much much better than rice water for me. And product wise: Camille Rose offers great moisturizing products that do not leave oily films or weigh your hair down. You feel like you're touching your hair, moisturized and non greasy!

I was thinking of applying henna to my hair and then to my scalp every few months to bulk up my hair so that it doesn't break easily. I have fine hair that has medium density.

My hair is all the way at the dense end but all the way at the fine side. You will have to work in very small sections when you are styling and wash your hair in twists to prevent tangoes.

Awesome video! I would also add consuming more water into the diet (at least 64oz if possible) , also with consuming lean cuts of meats for protein (fish ( at least 2x/week for omega-3) chicken, beef and/or pork) also helps. Again great video and your pictures are beautiful!!💐

I have dense but fine hair. And mini twists are a nightmare for me. Braids outs are always better because they are easier to detangle. And even if I do a twists I do medium size and to prevent my ends from tangling from one another. I do a hanging bantu knot, it's so helpful, and my ends stay stretched and soft. And my twists outs look bomb.
