I am a disabled Vet with PTSD. I do not have the option to give in and quit. My family and friends depend on me. People do not realize how hard it is to wake up and make yourself face the day. People never ask about my condition because they won't understand and it is hard to explain how when I get triggered it isn't one emotion it is like 10 or 20 at once. I am proud of you are your family for putting in the work to make the business survive. Keep up the good work.

Hey, amigo. I see you. You and I are about the same age, and there are so many things I hear in your words that connect for me. I can see your understanding of leadership and that you practice it to be a role model for your beautiful family. I can see that you would rather die than ever let them down. Me too. In addition to that, I can hear the tones of genuine vulnerability that temper the steel of your soul- that is wisdom. Experience. I also know that only someone who has direct personal experience with suicide would say what you said. I get it. My dad blew off the top of his head with a shotgun. If you are having a bad day- know that you are not alone in your experience. I wish I were there to buy you breakfast.

It took me awhile to figure this out, but a guy named Leon (who was homeless in Washington, DC) told me that he knew for him to be happy about anything, he had to be happy with himself first. This came from a guy that didn't have two nickels to rub together, to a guy that has everything, literally. But Leon is/was correct. Being happy starts from within oneself first, THEN and only then, he/she can be happy about something else.

Hello Boss Man, It's good to see another video from you. I can't say I have figured out the answer to your last question but I do know you can't always be happy as that's impossible in this life. That being said it is very rare I feel down, I may not always have a happy demeanor but as someone who fell to living on the street, then to a "nice" life and family to now everything slowly going down hill the last 3 years and not looking great, I can say a positive attitude and always knowing I will find a way, I can stay "happy" 90% of the time no matter what. My Grandmother and Godfather gave me words that stay with me always. "There is no reason ever to not be polite, "You are a survivor and will always figure it out, "Be thankful for everything you have because it can all be gone tomorrow, "Prepare for the worst and hope for the best, "Always expect the unexpected, and "Always have faith and believe. I rarely have ever asked that question and when I have, it has been "should I quit what I am doing right now and start something new? or just change the way I am doing this? (a new perspective). All these quotes keep me going with at least a small grin.(and occasional motivational music) " Never stop, Never give up, there is always a way through, I just have to find it"....... has served me well. Thank you for making another video. You will find the answer your looking for. You Sir are a good man and have a wonderful family and business I'm sure most envy, I know I do.

Hey Boss! I recently retired after many years of wondering why I keep working. Like you I always told myself that quitting is not an option unless it helps me reach the goals I have set for myself. Many times over the years I would think, Man I cant keep doing this, but I did. I guess what got me through it was my mental attitude towards working. I approached my job as "I want to earn a paycheck, Not collect one" As long as I kept this attitude, Quitting is not an option. Great video Boss and Ladies.

I really appreciated your thoughts this evening. It took me back to a question that a man asked me over 40 years ago ( I was in my 20's then). He asked, "can you pick the year, the month, the week, the day and the hour you'd like to die"? As I pondered the question I thought about all the things I enjoyed doing and all the things I still wanted to do and learn and see. I said no I can't pick that time. He then said, "that's because we're not wired that way. We're designed with eternity in our heart". He asked, "what happens when you cut yourself or break a bone"? It heals I said. He said, that's by design, not chance. Marvelous. Applying his thoughts to yours, we were design to keep working, keep learning, keep seeing new things and doing so with those we love. Ecclesiastes 3:11 I really enjoy your content. Work safe and long. Love lifes experiences. Scott

On the rare occasion of your personal contributions, I am 100% of the time delighted to hear from you. I am in TX, we might never meet, but you have my respect in big form. You are an excellent family man who values all the good that has come to you, and you are grateful for the goodness of God. Hearing about the flood you had some years back, I consider you a superman for your loved ones, and I bet they see it too. Your principles, your dedication to high standards (espec for yourself and your products), your obvious love for your wife and kids - all remarkable in today's world. For you, it may be just the way you roll, but for the viewers, there are some take-aways in example that are priceless. I feel certain the teamwork elements of your business couldn't spare you for long, but I'd give a big contribution back just to buy you a good dinner and visit for an hour. There's dramatized tv series about ice road truckers and gold miners who struggle to survive (or so it appears). Your family sticks together, you're all good looking and hard working. I think it's a good recipe for a tv series, if someone can come up with a good script. If you play your cards right, a tv appearance, interviews etc. can earn you a lot more than your lumber business. Just my 2 cents.

When to quit? Quitting is giving up on everything entirely. Never quit. Getting out is different. The stock experts say that you should get out at the point you would never get in. I think that applies not only to stocks, but pretty much everything in life. Getting out does not mean quitting. It means adapting, modifying, innovating, going a different direction, or finding another opportunity. In several of your videos you explore new markets and new opportunities. In my mind that is the correct path. Keep the faith brother.

what's so bad about quitting? isn't that the opportunity to question, to pause, reassess what's going on, what's important and what's not? that moment, or even extended hiatus for reflection may provide the deep reason to really quit [e.g. for continuing would actually cause harm], to move on into what is more resonant with one's path or spirit for growth, fulfillment... or not. I think of Mark Twain who said he found it easy to quit smoking, he'd done it hundreds of times ...

I retired from Law Enforcement after 44 years of service but I felt that I was leaving the department in good hands as I watched several of them grow up and became great officers. When it comes time to hand the reins over you will know that you have done you best for your family to carry on. You are also a true steward of the land, so what if you don't get all the logs out you are taking care of the land and that means a lot. And you are never boring my friend. Bless you and your family. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. As you know, the biggest part of the battle is psychological. When you get your head screwed on straight, a lot of other things sort themselves out, sooner or later. That's why asking the right questions is so critical. Another observation: the best people I know have all been through the mill in one way or another. Suffering and struggling is rough, but it makes us stronger, wiser, more resilient, more understanding, and more aware of what's really important (and what's not). Those who have it easy too often miss out on all the "character building" the rest of us enjoy! That's also a good reason to have at least two kids, if you can. They will challenge each other and their parents to be a better person. Other relationships are good too, but there's something about family dynamics and relationships that won't let us weasel out of the opportunities for growth. As rough as the economics can be, you seem to be in a good place, with a "multitude of counselors" on one side and a loving family on the other. So together, we just keep taking the next step.

Brother Ken. God bless you and your beautiful family. Following God’s plan is key. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭34‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I love watching your channel. You have a wonderful family. I’m in Missouri East of Kansas City. The younger generation here are spoiled, have no respect for God the elderly, themselves or each other! They have no work ethic. Life is nothing in their eyes. Really sad. Your family is a sight for sore eyes! Pulling together working hard and getting things done. The American way.

Philosophical reflection is beneficial to a deeper understanding of ones place in this life. I never quit, but you need to know when to stop. I came to a fork in the road in business 20 yrs ago by circumstances beyond my control, one choice was to stop and enjoy a personal financial windfall, the other was not to quit and try to save the business to help the people that had worked so hard to build it. I chose the latter. The people didn't care and it has cost me dearly, and I don't mean just financially. Just keep going and never ever stop being one of the good guys.

Ken , never give up. You need to remember, it's ok to take a break and walk away. Look forward for tomorrow. Tomorrow is a better day. Be thankful for every day. Every day is a challenge. That's why we are human.

My mantra is usually along the line of "Adapt and Overcome" a lot of the time. I usually have part of Proverbs rolling around in the back of my mind also, "Do not rely on your own understanding" (For sure!). I like listening to your words of wisdom. Wish more people thought along those ideas

Someone once told me that when YOU have done all that YOU can do, and nothing seems to be working, then it’s time to stop what you’re doing and say…"Ok, Lord. What would you have me to do now?" That’s the most important relationship anyone can have, is to be comfortable with "letting go, and letting God!" Even though I’m 72 and retired from my own business since 2018, I try to start every day with thanking God for a new day, and asking for His guidance for the day. Thanks for sharing you and your family with us.

•Always live the sermon instead of talking about it •Always speak the truth or you'll end up lying to yourself •The outcome of the command to be "happy/ joyful" (Biblically) depends/ proven by whether we are thankful or not •Our worth is measured in friends and deeds and not in possessions of goods and power When we personally realize our humanity, only then are we equipped to help others to do so. When that happens we will know a measure of joy/ happiness that cannot be had any other way. Self-sacrifice for family, friends and community is the foundation of all civilizations. It all starts from the inner person outward. Sounds like your family gets it. Kudos Boss

You should know that the hard work ethic of your entire family is worth far more than money in the bank. Just look at all that makes your business different than others in your field, and you will see so much to be proud of. You guys care about the quality of your products and services and that is what clearly stands out in all the videos. Keep it up!

be happy. A command from God? Interesting. For me, when all the big things go wrong, I remind myself to look for the small things, the blessings in my life. When I'm busy looking for all the good, all the blessings... the bad things disappear. Not that those challenges and lessons go away, but the perspective changes. It's like asking the right questions, like you said. Problems become opportunities. Thanks for talking to us. We all need reminders once in awhile to try again, to change our perspective when things don't go the way we want. God bless, mon ami.

A mature introspective review of what guides and drives you is always appreciated. We learn from each other’s point of view and the point of view of someone such as yourself, having created a wonderful family and successful business, has particular value. Having a plan is important, being wedded to it is not. Events of the day always seem to come along. While working on my bee hives was not on my list today, the sunny pleasant weather triggered my first swarm of the year, so capturing my bees and giving them a new home took priority. After which I returned to the house to find we had no electricity…so scratch working in the shop changing the engine on my little garden tractor (I’m old enough to know swapping engines without lighting is a bad idea). Tomorrow is another day and another set of yet to be discovered challenges.

Very much appreciate your transparency, a proverb says, "The mind of man plans his ways, but the Lord directs his steps." Like you said, some days we just gotta get up and take that next step and see what the good Lord has in store, life is made up of peaks and valleys! Been watching your channel for a few months now and learning about wood, I started up a firewood business with my son's this year and your channel keeps me motivated!
