About the ai predictions; AI isn't predicting it's acting based on your choice so it's practically cheating. I tested it a 100 different ways with taking save files before each action and that's my conclusion. AI knows what action you're going to do and acts accordingly

I love that the hack isn't just FireRed but with all the Pokemon and modernized features we've come to love, but it changes up the story a bit too to have Johto Gym Leaders, the Rocket Executives, Team Rocket's story being tweaked and expanded, etc.

i agree with this. Radical Red is something that appeals to a wide array of players. i've done a Normal and HC run of this and it's been a wild ride all around. and what sells Radical Red is that it makes u appreciate Pokemon that you otherwise never would use such as Conkeldurr in m case.

Truthfully i played through vanilla kanto so much as a kid that i couldnt stand it as an adult so when radical red came out i was hesitant...3 years later and I finally gave it a shot and i actually have a reason to play through kanto again...its just difficilt enough to where i can have a casual playthrough without getting bored as well as having way more than original 151 dex to use meaning i dont have to reuse the same few teams over and over

Libero is insanely broken in RR. Just teach your Cinderace Shadow Ball and you can counter most Explosion mons in the game as they will still go for it. Sucker Punch is also great vs Psychic types. Great video, you have a new subscriber!

The strangest thing i’ve seen the radical red ai do is use superpower into my gengar while I was switching to krookodile. WHY WOULD IT USE SUPERPOWER INTO A GHOST TYPE? THE WORST PART IS THAT I WAS UP AGAINST A PSYCHIC TYPE!!!

Especially when you got Iron Hands, you can just do Weakness Policy, bait them to use Ground, Psychic or Fairy moves, and blast them off with Plasma Fists or Drain Punch. Ice Punch for coverage against Dragons and Ground-type.

It's just made artificially hard and a lot of the fun is sucked out of it.. I tried to use a chlorophyll Venusaur/drought Ninetales combo with sleep powder. Well, the opponent will always wake up the very next turn no matter what, you might stay asleep for seven turns though.. who the hell wants to play that?.. then things like the ghost marowak that randomly gets all of its stats doubled at the beginning of the battle.. so it can outspeed and one shot virtually everything with moves that hit twice and ignore immunities.. and then if you somehow manage to beat it.. it doesn't keep that ability if you catch it.. if you rematch the elite four, Koga has Zacian crowned and I swear to God it's stats have been buffed so high that it's literally impossible, I can't find any evidence that anyone has actually beat it.. there is nothing in the game that can land even a single hit on it and even if you did it doesn't matter because it's invincible.. it's sad because the game has so much potential to be amazing and it's just ruined by complete bullshit even on easy mode

I've played RR a couple times and while there are a lot of very cool features, there's a lot of stuff that is sorely missing or just feels wrong that makes me much prefer other romhacks, namely: -With all pokemon up to Legends Arceus, encounter tables are just so bloated. RR could really benefit from adding extra areas, like Inclement Emerald. Just off the top of my head, you could add a beach area near Bill's house named "Cerulean Cape" or something; you could add a forest north of Celadon; you could expand Cinnabar Island to actually add that volcano and make it explorable; you could add an above-ground mountain path over Mt. Moon; you could even add Mt. Silver which is canonically in between Kanto and Johto. This would require more creative work, of course, but I think it would be well worth it. I think this was on the hack creator's todo list, and I'm not gonna rush some guy doing this for free in his spare time, but if it were me I would have done this before adding hisuian mons -The design of the difficulty is just really weird. "Normal mode" is still obscenely difficult. Like at the very least save the goddamn Crowned Zacian for Hardcore mode. Oh also the hardcore restrictions are just stupid sometimes like I hear "the dragon type gym leader just doesn't let you bring fairy types" and I just laff dude. Yeah i know this is an intentional design choice and there is an audience for it and the hardcore mode nuzlocke has been beaten but it really just feels like artificial difficulty innit. You have to bring very specific answers into fights which feels antithetical to the concept of having Every Pokemon to use and so many resources to customize your team with because it doesn't matter, only a few specific builds beat this shit when the game *doesn't let you use fairies to counter dragons* -The jokes are kind of just miserable for the most part. They're pretty harmless and don't make it unplayable like Clover but they really are just painfully unfunny whenever I see them. Also every romhack that undoes gen 3's rightful revision of "this gym is great! it's full of women!" to "it's full of strong trainers!" is just like. Stupid. Contemplate long and hard about why they would have changed that

Just finished my playthrough on hardcore and some of the fights are just ridiculous lol. The fairy ban against Clair isn't too bad since banded Melmetal absolutely WRECKS her team but there are a few other field conditions that are just straight ridiculous, including 1 (possibly 2 if you pick a grass starter) fight with permanent magma storm and Koga's gym which has permanent psychic terrain and tailwind to compliment his Kyurem White and Hoopa Unbound lmao. It's an interesting change of pace from normal mode and feels gratifying when you overcome it but during the playthrough it can get super overwhelming, especially when team-building for the E4

Strangest thing the AI has ever done in my experience is surge spamming switches into my clodsire’s ground STABs. This was with two layers of toxic spikes i laid out for alolan raichu’s sash so all his pokémon were just taking chip damage from toxic and bulldoze. Yeah, I think my clodsire either triggered his PTSD or he just forgot he lost his levitate mon

The AI straight up cheats. I had a Charizard against Gary's Groudon that I was gonna mega x evolve to tank a rock attack and dragon dance. Nope he used precipice blade and 1 shot. The AI knew I had mega x and used earthquake. So I redid the fight and was able to exploit the AI by stack 6 d dances while he kept trying to p blade. Wiped his whole team.

Yeah the AI can definitely read your items and move sets but the advantage is still with the player. Ultimately if you have not already searched up the team online beforehand after a few failed attempts you can adjust your team for a easy win once you know the AI's strategy.

For the Nidoking part, confirmed the AI “cheats” and does input reading and picks the optimal move based on what you pick accordingly. In 4.0 there’s a hidden counter to trigger it or maybe on some fights/situations

This is a great video. Loved every minute of it. Radical Red is probably my favourite rom hack that ive ever nuzlocked. The combination with everything from every generation makes it a real treat. The encounter variety is wonderful. And the way everything is balanced with its moveset limitations and the time you access new things like megas, move tutor, celedon evo items, legendaries etc is well put together and it makes for some of the most fun nuzlocke experiences ive ever had. Every pokemon being viable is also great. And the AI is so fun to play with once you know everything about it. (talking about v3.0 HC mode as 3.1 has unbound AI which isnt balanced well with radical red). As a HC mode player, I gotta say the E4 is a bit over the top and it makes most E4 teams look very similar but I think the whole point of it is for the player to show what they have learned about the AI throughout the journey. When playing this game, many streamers and I have been cracking down everything to know about this game like routing the optimal encounters, how the AI behaves in certain situations and many more. And there are some resources out there that woulda helped you in your nuzlocke. (talking about 3.0 not 3.1). There are some resources about 3.1 but its still pretty much unexplored. Even though some of the gimmicks certain boss battles have are stupid, I gotta say it makes it more fun. Like you have perfectly optimised pokemon, so without those gimmicks it woulda been a steamroll over all the boss fights. Also fuck brandan. I have come across your content, I watched your "How I beat Radical Red" video, and remember being glad that someone else can appreciate Parasect xD As time went on, and I learnt more about the game through multiple runs, I too started to work out the optimal routing for best encounters etc, definitely a reward from trial and era. While I haven't played the HC mode myself (Lemme complete a standard one first xD) I really like the difficulty curve and Boss gimmicks, like you say, it makes it more fun and rewarding. This video was great! My first ever Pokémon game was Leaf Green but I never ended up finishing it because I lost the cartridge during one of many moves I had to go through as a kid. But it did start my journey into being a Pokémon fan and eventually trying my hand at a little competitive play in ORAS. I loved building unique and different teams using my favorites. But now as I am 29 and going through a lot of struggles in my life, I've been thinking back to my childhood days and feeling a nostalgic desire for the feeling of triumph I felt as a kid after finally beating a gym leader or the E4. However I am so spoiled by modern Pokémon now that I knew I would have a hard time going back and needed some QoL changes to add freshness to the game. I was hesitant to try Radical Red though because I worried that it changed too much with all the additional Pokémon I don't recognize (I stopped playing the mainline games after USUM) and all the extra content added to the intimidation the game had over me. But you really sold me on it! You broke down everything the game had to offer in such an easily digestible and entertaining way. And has inspired me to put myself to a test and try to overcome an ever greater challenge. An adventure for both the little kid me still in my heart and the wiser adult that I am now. Thank you.

As a casual on default difficulty I love this rom because it has all the QoL you could ask for. Even minimal grind mode where all Poke ons just have best IVs. Fk grinding for days for some good stats. But still its a very difficult game. It just gives you all you need with the keast amount of hassle to go about finding strategies. Best rom for me atm.

Wouldn't the Nidoking debacle happen because the AI knows you're gonna switch? I think its been mentioned that it will see your move before you do it, that includes which pokemon you are switching into at times. So its possible that Nidoking kept firing off moves that were effective on the pokemon you were gonna bring out, as the AI already knows you're gonna switch.

No. I tried this theory before on Misty. I can actually force her lanturn to hit me with lightning and I tank it with pachirisu (volt absorb). So, it does not take into account what you are switching too but its more on what attack can effectively hit you and your team at the back. So, sometimes, you can actually lure them to use one particular attack on you and you can reap the reward.

Great video i don't think i've seen anyone mentioning this in the comments, but there is actually another in game cheat code (from your character room), while it's not as useful as the others you mentioned, this one does the same thing as the "DexAll" code, but for every trainers teams, letting you see their Pokemons and held items if they happen to hold one, though, you only see sprites of said Pokemon and held items, no details shown the code is "TeamPreview"

There are benefits to both! I personally do like it non Randomized as there’s such a vast array of mons available In the wild in any given area! But I have done plenty of Randomized runs too =)

furthest I made it in this game was lance in 3.1, I saw no way to beat his crazy team with what I had brought. then in 4.0 I made it to blaine and left it there. the game's beatable, unfair too, yes, but definitely beatable, you kinda just have to build specific teams for most bosses and gym leaders and I just couldn't be bothered to do that haha

Just fyi, the weird ai behavior comes frome the ai „cheating“.. the ai picks it moves after you pick… so it actually know what you are going to do and then counter acts… this killed the fun i had with the romhack for me, when i learned about it..

I hate that the Elite 4 and Blue have Legendaries, not because it makes them harder but because it's off brand for them. Giovanni having Mewtwo is fine because Team Rocket created it which means it's on brand for their leader. However, the Elite 4 and Blue have absolutely no connection with Legendaries so getting them at random irks me.

Yeah I haven’t even gotten that far myself but I’ve seen a fair few of other people runs and it does seem a bit OTT, but like you say, rewarding learning how the AI works!

The following Pokemon doesn't work in my gameplay? A guy in the PC asks me if I want my Pokemon to come out, and it works on my Starter and that's it. Halfway through (if I enter Pewter City) my Pokemon automatically stops following me. Not a deal breaker, still a fantastically game! Just thought it was a glitch.

So not every Pokemon can follow you! The game will read the top mon in your party that does have an overworld following mon coded in. I expect this list will grow over future updates, but they are understandably concentrating on adding Gen 9 right now!

Looks good and well made, but not for me. As I've gotten older and played more Pokemon fangames I've grown less and less enamored with the whole "We have every pokemon!" selling point. I'd rather have a carefully curated selection of mons available than deal with so, so many jank and, frankly, trash pokemon. I mean do you *really* need every Rattata and Pidgey and Pikachu clone, when they generally fill the same role with a similar power level? I don't think so (though if you enjoy that more power to you) and I'd rather have less things cluttering up the encounter list for a given route. I've caught them all multiple times. I've gotten a living pokedex with over 900 of the little bastards twice over the years. After a point I just want a more focused, curated experience. Give me one really fantastic candy bar instead of a choice from 20 different, mostly mediocre, candy bars. Also I swear I'm sick of how many legendaries there are at this point. It's just too much, they've lost all uniqueness and spectacle with just how many there are. I'm sure I'm the only one who feels that way given how _every freaking fangame_ I see keeps throwing legendaries at the player and/or makes them central to the plot, but what can I say. This is _my_ opinion after all.

to me, there's 1 aspect im not a fan of in radical red. MANDATORY CHALLENGES. you have to defeat x, before y, things like that, one of the best aspects of the original gen, is how open it is. but in here, you dont really get much of a choice, most gyms are locked behind certain fights, and other gym leaders.

I simply wish the game had taught players how to deal with looming sub/boss team gimmicks or given easier versions of the challenge to prepare them for the next difficulty. I quit the game after defeating Brock; his self-destructing Geodude was the final straw after dealing with Lasse Anne's Audino with a confuse, sleep, and heal combo. Blind fights that end in nearly or actually failing on the first try were just not fun for me.

Radical red was the first rom hack I’ve played, and after living through the pure disappointment that has been being a Pokémon fan for these past years, i feel as though i have finally taken a drink of the cleanest, purest water after wandering in a desert for weeks on end. Radical red did to Gen 1 what bdsp should have done for Gen 4. Unfortunately, the complacency of being too big to fail has a way of killing innovations like a flesh eating plague. My fullest, most absolutely gratitude and appreciation goes to those wonderful people out there making better Pokémon games than game freak, not only for free but at great risk to their own selves as game freak seeks to smite them like a vengeful and cruel god

28:00 gio didne switch into honchcrow because the ai sees that you have a super effective dazzling gleam on it, making the switch ai not go into effect. also nido used ice beam bc the ai knows what roll each move will get before choosing a move nd saw ice beam killed, making it a 50/50 between ice beam nd earth power
