Good thing you tested. Im just reading a book about a farmer who had to sue Dupont. They were dumping chemicals even from the 50s when making Teflon. It is said we all have this chemical in our bodies now. It took 20 years for a class action suit. There was a movie made on this true story called dark waters. The book is called exposure by Robert Bilott. Our govt hides so much from us. Always learning from you both. 😊

@@etyrnal As long as you use water from the tanks and let them refill with the new rains they will not become stagnant. A hundred years ago, people didn't have the ability to test tank water, and stagnant water wasn't a concern. I wouldn't leave a water tank full year after year without checking on it, or you are asking for trouble. But if the water looks clean and clear, if it has no smell, and if it tastes pure, then it's ok to drink.

@@etyrnal Rainwater can sit in a tank forever, it does not have an expiry date. If the water is clean and the tank is clean, it will last for ever. It may develop an odor, but this can be rectified by simply aerating the water, or by switching the water from tank to tank by means of a pump. But it's not something that needs to be done at all if you are using the tank regularly and new water is being caught and feed into the tank.

The metal in the water is a result of particulates in the air. Those particulates accumulate and are bound up in the rain drops. Has nothing to do with the metal devices in your system. Its directly proportional to the air quality in your region. I'd definitely recommend putting the reverse osmosis filter in your drinking water, just for the peace of mind if for no other reason than that.

Now comes 2008 and our town built half million dollar mansions around us. To run pipes up to my house, the water department said my dad paid for the pipes years ago. Stupid me, I agreed to hook up to town water cap my artesian well and now in May 2023 I'm sorry I ever listened to the water department and should have kept my well. My well water was always crystal clear and tasted 100% better than the town water which gets bacteria almost every summer, sometimes cloudy and never as clean as my Artesian well water was.

It tastes so amazing, so fresh and clean.. Now living in suburbia, the taste of chlorine and flouride does my head in, and my skin is greatly affected too. I so miss the natural way we got our water. There will always be poolution, no matter where you live though. A lot will actually be in the rain itself, but you guys are doing everything correct, filtering and cleaning the water, so there is nothing to be concerned about. You should be so proud that your children are growing up with the cleanest water available to them, and they learn that water is a precious commodity when things like drought hit. Cholera being one of the bad... They found two things in all those 'always good' wells. At least one Roman Copper coin, and at least one Roman Silver coin. When I created my rain water capture, I added pieces of pure silver, and some copper rounds... 10 years ago... no problems...

Since you're drinking rain water, the metal may be coming from power plants and factories. The main cause of mercury content in Florida lakes is due to atmospheric deposition. The exhaust from factories and power plants contains metals which are carried into the atmosphere, then they are released and fall to earth when it rains. These factories are required to scrub their exhaust to get rid of the metals, but it is not 100 percent.Maybe something like that is happening with rain water in your area

How about an orange juice stain on the counter somewhere to make the fest of us feel better. The trace amounts of metal come with the rainwater. "Rainwater samples harvested for drinking from the west part of Hebron (south of West Bank in Palestine), the largest city in the West Bank, were analyzed for the content of different trace heavy metals (Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mo, Ag, Cd, Bi, and Pb) by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). This study was conducted to determine the water quality of harvested rainwater used for drinking of south West Bank (case study, Hebron area). A total of 44 water samples were collected in November 2012 from 44 house cisterns used to collect rainwater from the roofs of houses. The samples were analyzed for their pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, and different heavy metal contents. The pH of all water samples was within the US Environmental Protection Agency limits (6.5-8.5), while some water samples were found to exceed the allowed WHO limit for total dissolved solids (TDSs) in drinking water. Results showed that concentrations of the heavy metals vary significantly between the 44 samples. Results also showed that the concentration of five heavy metals (Cr, Mn, Ni, Ag, and Pb) is higher than the WHO limits for these heavy metals in drinking water. Overall, our findings revealed that harvested rainwater used for drinking of this part of south West Bank is contaminated with heavy metals that might affect human health."

I got my water tested once. After sticker shock of paying the bill, I decided that buying and maintaining a reverse osmosis filter was cheaper than getting annual water testing done. Also for stuff like coliform testing, you've got to transport your water to a lab within 24 hours for the test to be valid. It was still incredibly informative and I was relieved to know I didn't have any heavy metal contamination. But seriously, RO filters have gotten way cheaper than they used to be.

You guys should take advantage of the pond being so close to your house for geothermal. 🤯. Might help with heating in the winter months and not relying on so much on the capscity you have available. 🎉

I love that Beau and Cam stick together like they do, they will always look after each other. Your right McKinsey the cabin does look like it has more room now that the framing is complete. Looking good Spencer. Give Beau and Cam a big hug for me and tell Bear and Io I said Hi. God bless you all.

Good stuff! Truly! If this cabin is for guests and out of town visitors (friends and family) it will also be an optional space for both kids as they grow older and want to spread out.

Love you guys. As usual, you're handling adversity like the champs that you are, with the 3 times is NOT a charm door fiasco. Sometimes these hardware and construction box stores totally miss the mark on quality customer service. I certainly hope you guys are registering complaints with the companies with whom you placed the order. Cabin's looking good.

Love this KZbin site! 😍 I also love that merch shirt! Oh, and I love you both too! 🙏🏿. I'm not sure if it is even necessary, but would it hurt to have an iodine additive on a determined schedule dropped (or injected) into the holding tanks or a point prior? 🤔

We have a 20k gallon rainwater system and we did the same test you guys did. We also have most of the same filter components as you, spin down filter, 5 micron, pelican carbon filter and UV light. We have all pvc and pex A except for the pump, check valve etc but, we do have a 20k gallon tank with a liner in it. Our score was 56 which is 2 points below national average but 10 points above the Oklahoma average. We did our test 2 months after the system was setup and we are going to do another test in a year to see if it improves. The water is safe and tastes great, I just thought like you guys did that it would be more pristine. FYI we also have a new 300' well that we use for everything outside the house and it only came in at 37 which is below the Oklahoma average. I highly suggest viewers getting your water source tested no matter where you get water from.

Metal particles always get picked up by rain water on roof and gutters. It worsens over years. If you have the right filtration to reduce, you will be okay. Plastic particles do the same over time. Frustrating door keeps failing. The mfg may not have to tooling to make or the knowledge to make a jig to customize. It all starts with the hole you cut. Enjoy your long weekend.

It seems obvious that the person that keeps pulling the wrong door can not read, or the wrong order is not being deleted, and the same order keeps going out. The company should by now have it delivered to your place with in days of your new order, and making sure it is correct before shipping.

Alexapure water filters cost almost half as much as the Berkey and they even filter out the poisonous fluoride. The Berkey makes you buy a separate filter to remove fluoride. I bought one about 4 years ago and the taste of our water is fantastic. The house is coming along great, and I love watching every one of your videos.

I live out in the country on the farm I grew up on. I use the same well with no filter system and as far as I know the water has never been tested in the 60+ years since my grandpa first bought the farm. My grandpa owned the farm before my father bought it from him. I don’t think he ever tested the water either. My water taste better than any water I’ve ever tasted.

We've been drinking rainwater from a pond for 22 years. It's great! Pond water systems are common around here where the well water is sulferized, really crappy tasting and hard on plumbing. We have building codes to abide by and our system consists of a floating pond filter (filter 3 feet below the surface) to catch the big stuff, a five micron initial filter and one micron final filters. In addition, thre is a sand filter, a charcoal filter and an iodine injection system that put about .9 ppm iodine into the water just ahead of a pair of 400 gallon "soak" tanks to kill any bacteria. We test the water about every other year and haven't failed a test yet.
