I think there has been a big push to inform the general population about the dangers of ultra processed foods in general -for humans. It's only logical that this awareness would spill over to our pets as well. Kibble is the ultimate ultra processed food, and dogs are arguably even more ill equipped to deal with these ultra processed foods than humans are

100% most kibbles are nothing but fillers &carbs, carbs alone are EXTREMELY hard on a dogs body, especially their pancreas.. So when that's allllll they eat day after day, year after year, of course it's going to affect them ! Some people just can't seem to understand the issue with it

1. processed food IS better for dogs, consider how animals evolved next to us. dogs and cats ate table scraps and were on worse diets before. 2. kibble is the ONLY science backed nutrition dog food readily available if they follow WSAVA guidelines. most people don't invest in the DVCM nutrtionist they need to hire to formulate their dog's fresh/raw food and keep to the recipe to a T, which is what leads to so many pets that end up with DCM from eating weird brands, raw foods, and fresh foods that aren't properly researched and tested and open for the public to read those peer review studies. it's the reason why so many animals also die horrid deaths of raw foods. raw is an option for some folks like treats if your dog has sensitives, but this myth that kibble is bad bc it's processed or has carbs whatever is insane because that isn't true.

@@Felix-jo7nj kibble being bad for dogs, absolutely is true ! Carbs alone for example, are EXTREMELY hard on a dogs pancreas, and whatever isn't used for energy?? Well, we all know what carbs turn into when they aren't used ! That's why so many dogs are diabetic & fat.. eating nothing but carbs! Dogs were specifically designed to hunt, eat & THRIVE off Raw foods. That hasn't changed! no animal in the world eats "100% daily balance" just like humans, a dog can't even use that much nutrition everyday lol. And the vitamins, proteins and fats in kibbles, are mostly chemical based additives.. Once those chemicals are heated at the extreme temps used for kibble, those chemicals bind & form into other toxic chemicals.. All a dog needs to thrive, is a small variety of different muscle meats throughout the week, bones & organs.. if raw was dangerous, I would have had at least ONE DOG by now that had issues from it.. over 20yrs of feeding TONS of dogs 100% raw/whole prey diets & nothing but completely healthy dogs! Even my dogs that are seniors (12 to 16yrs) are still able to move around like young dogs & run around this mountain for days at a time on hunting trips. The reason raw food isn't researched & "backed" is because kibble companies control that market for the most part & it's no benefit for them..

I always freeze my cats food. I make up huge batches and freeze it. Many of my smaller ingredients I get in bulk, repackage into smaller portions then freeze it. That takes maybe 10 minutes. Then thaw as needed be. When I make a batch, I make up a huge batch to last a month. It takes 30 minutes in general. I do buy some premade raw when I don’t have time to make up a batch. So I usually keep some in the freezer as well cuz there are times when I can’t make her food before my homemade runs out. She’s been on raw for four years and loves it and is thriving on it. Her gut health has improved dramatically. My vet says she was skeptical at first but now can see for herself how good it’s been for her and told me to keep feeding her the raw cuz it’s working to resolve issues she never expected. Like her conjunctivitis. And her dental health.

There is evidence that most raw diets are nutrient deficient. Lots of prey model feeders think 80 10 10 while rotating a few proteins and throwing in some fish oil will make their food balanced and complete. There are balanced recipes out there, but many of those require supplementation or finding obscure ingredients. And time, which many people dont have. I use balanced complete recipes and premade, because I like making food for my dog, but dont always have time.

I think bird flu is a pretty big safety concern not mentioned in this video. I assume the video-making process takes a while so maybe that's why, but it's important to talk about on any discussion of raw pet food right now. Cats have died directly from eating raw food made from contaminated birds. We're not testing for it regularly. We don't have the infrastructure, so there's no way to tell if it's in the poultry you buy right now. Cats particularly have a lot receptors for the virus in their digestive system, which is why it's so pathogenic for them. High pressure pasteurization apparently did not work to kill it in a batch made by a raw food company. Heat does inactivate the virus, so for now I am cooking the commercial raw food I feed my cats (and may switch to canned altogether for a while). If anyone's interested, the papers I found on heat inactivation of HPAI found 67 °C to be effective, so I am using a meat thermometer and making sure it reaches 150°F. Fowl are obviously the main proteins to be careful with, but other animals are catching it too. Notably cattle, since we have so many, but there are also reports of other mammals also contracting it and the list is growing, so I don't know if any protein is a safe bet at present.

The biggest problem with feeding a carnivore pet raw food is money, where i live you can buy 2 kg dry cat food for 2.5 dollar but 2.5 dollar for 1 kg of chicken. Also recently in most places around the world farm animals have a disease and it's growing in numbers, not to mention that the chickens in supermarkets are mostly unhealthy/ sick chickens ( force fed, unnatural environment, eating processed chicken food, unnatural growth, etc) so there is also still a high possibility that pets can get sick from raw meat, and the possibility is increasing day by day as it's getting worse in in farm fabrics, everyone does not HAVE TO feed their carnivore pets raw meat, everyone has to feed and care for their pets as best as they can.

Our kitties have shown themselves to be frustrating little fluffs. I can't get them to try liver, and they are even iffy right now about chicken hearts (which they've had before) and the little one won't even try them. I think I'm going to have to take an afternoon and blend it all into a puree and freeze little portions seperately to see if that coaxes them if I tuck I little into their normal food. We're at half canned/half raw right now because they've been fussy about protein variety too. . .chicken (which is currently unavaliable where we get our grind) and turkey are accepted, pork/rabbit/duck are iffy depending on which cat, how much is in the bowl, and who knows what other factors.

I feed my 2 standard poodles and cat homemade raw. They thrive on this diet! But I will say this is not cheap IF you are buying humanely raised meat. It's important that not only my pets are treated humanely but so are the animals raised for meat too. I buy from a local co-op. Meat is not cheap but I've met the farmers personally and I know the animals are well taken care of. I'd like to say that the energy in the meat is also important for our own pets. You can consume 'bad meat' where the animal wasn't humanely raised and slaughtered with high stress. Consuming meat with high cortisol can effect your health. Mariah, I would love for you to cover this. At least make it known that not all meat is raised the same and we all should be taking a stand on better farming practices. Buying the cheapest meat you can find to create a cheap homemade raw meal does come at a cost and needs to be considered. I am not saying that cheap meat is worse than kibble but it's not ideal to consume.

And guess what. Better coat, more energy (yes... More energy in that border collie :D ) but for the best part of it > No more diarrhea > Gaining weight with less food ( with kibble she had about 500gr a day and was 14Kg and the raw food is 400gr a day and now she is a stable 16Kg) > and even the poops are way smaller. The generous use of antibiotics in animal feed, particularly poultry and 🐖 (🐖s have a single-pouched stomach) is scary but necessary given the condition in which most livestock are raised.

Good video. People should also know that the info in this video pretty much applies to humans, too, except that we should not eat (significant amounts of) raw food. For example, type 2 diabetes is cured by adopting a low-carb diet that should be mostly based on meat. The same applies to skin issues, allergies, etc. Veggies are a problem for many humans, too, although most can eat them without issues. Meat is the best energy source for every human being, unless your bitten by certain ticks.

@mollycook1847
@mollycook1847 18 сағат бұрын
This is blatantly untrue. Humans have different metabolic needs than carnivores because we are omnivores. There is no cure for type 2 diabetes - it can be managed and go into a remission state with doet and exercise, but if you're doing a drastic diet like keto or similar to manage a disease state, you need to be consulting a dietician to make sure you are managing things like blood sugar well. And a diet that is helpful for a disease state is not necessarily a good diet for a healthy person. The whole point of these very specific and restrictive diets to manage disease is that there is an error in a metabolic process that the diet is trying to correct or avoid. And, most dieticians, doctors, and scientists say the evidence supports a healthy diet for the average person to be high in fruits and vegetables. Fiber, for the main reason. Fiber is so important and most adults do not get enough of it. Lack of fiber is a big contributor to colon cancer risk, for example.
@urpoukko
@urpoukko 11 сағат бұрын
@@mollycook1847 I absolutely think you have no clue. My family members and several acquintances have cured T2D simply by changing diet to a low-carb diet. It's simply gone, and it would re-emerge if the crappy high-carb diet was reintroduced. What dieticians or "experts" say is almost irrelevant because there is really very little valid studies on diets because it's almost impossible to conduct a study with enough very similar participants who are controlled and followed for a long time with only 1 change in their diet. That is the only way to really assess the effect and the RISK of a single ingredient. Studies always present risks when they cannot really assess them. So they give associative data which can be used to give background data, nothing more. Basically all current diet studies are questionnaires which are extremely unreliable and cannot be used to assess a risk of anything. All we know is that these diet guidelines have been followed more and more, and people are getting sicker and sicker. I think that is the real data. Everyone will have to try a diet to see the effects on themselves. I have tried all diets, including a vegan diet, and found that a low-carb meat based diet is by far the best for basically all health-related indicators. The difference between dogs and humans is that dogs should be fed mostly proteins with fairly little fat, us humans can eat a lot fat. P.S. I have had zero fiber in my diet for years and my gastric issues are all gone, I had them before. Unless I am an exception, requirement for fiber is a myth, which many studies also indicate.
@urpoukko
@urpoukko 3 сағат бұрын
@@mollycook1847 You know the consensus theory well. It is sad that is untrue. You can monitor your own blood glucose after and before eating and when you change from a high-carb food to a low-carb food your blood sugar is decreased. It is because only sugar (carbs) leads to an insulin response. And this is absolutely 100% true - you cannot increase your blood sugar by eating only fats and proteins (proteins do form a small amount carbs in the liver as per the personal need). For me, this is unbelievable how professionals can give so misleading, catastrophic information which is easily debunked. After all, diabetes is basically (significantly) increased chronic blood sugar. But of course this is because this consensus theory collapsing would lead to billions and billions in lost profits for the pharma companies. - over and out (no reason to hijack this excellent page as you and I will surely disagree in the future, too)

@mayaklast6334
@mayaklast6334 20 сағат бұрын
If you can't give the complete diet (raw vegetables and fruits, muscle, meaty bones, organs and oil) you are better of giving quality kibble or you'll create deficits. This video is not bad, but it is pretty biased. Dogs as the animal that exists today did not live on a main diet of raw meat before the invention of the kibble and certainly never lived on the equivalent of BARF as a species. In ancient Rome, dogs mainly ate barley bread soaked in milk (so... cereals) and excrements with the odd scrap of meat. They were still eating mainly bread during the middle ages. Meat was a luxury so people would use every possible bit they could get for themselves! Commercially produced petfood started in the 1860s so it is really not that recent of a thing and it worked well enough until that one big accident in 2007. There has been more accidents and scandals with human food than with kibble. There is a (cautious) claim that feeding raw during growth would lower the incidence of food allergies from a study made in Finland. Hence I am feeding raw at the puppy stage out of caution. Outside from that, it might change but there is at this point no proven superiority of raw food over commercially produced kibble (I'm talking things like Orijen here, no supermarket kibble) on the overall health unless you are targetting a specific problem which benefits from having a food rich in moisture (like kidney issues). Let's remember that dogs and cats longevity has never been as good as it is now... when the overwhelming majority of people are feeding kibble. You will see issues like cancer multiply if your pets live twice the time they lived before, it is not linked to the food... this is also true for humans. So if you can and want to feed raw, that's great, but there is no need to feel bad if you can't.

google for colloidal silver, you can buy it or even buy a maschine to make it your own. you also need destilled water to make it. it has a lot of dis-info in the web because of big pharmaa. it kills EVERY parasite! i had a heavy blood poisoning from a cat bite directly in one of my veins in my hand after 8 hours i was in hospital and they said i must amputate two fingers, it is to late for antibiotics. i was shocked, said no way and a friend came to pick me up for bring me home because from the poison i begun to have hallucinations (cat bites into your veins are dangerous because of these bacterias we have no antibodies) i made bottle after bottle, drank it nonstop and after about 3 days i saw the blue dark color of my veins going back to normal! after some more days it was gone and i was totally cured! nature aleays have an antidot and btw. this was common used before penicillin was discovered. all the fake stories in the web about " your body will turn to blue colored if using collo is just if you don't make it with good quality devices and to protect the huge amount of money the big companies make with all their poisons called medication. i once had an epileptic cat which can't be cured the vets told me, also 2 cats with heavy cat flu they wanted eutanize because of it but i cured every pet with colloidal silver. JUST USE REAL destilled water! not the one for cars, iron usw. it is just similar to destilled ones. here in 🇨🇭 they have to label it on the bottle and if it is the real one, just doctors can buy it. but in this case, buy an own destiller. collo is the most effective antibiotica ever known and you can't take to much! and no sideeffects and natural. and the most helpfull remedy for parasites like fleas, worms, milbs etc. (internal or outside) try DIATOMEEN EARTH. it works wonders, also for humans! if you have these critters in your home too, put it everywhere like carpets your pet's fur, cloths, lounge, wait some hours and hoover it away. just be carefull, your pet does not breath it because it is like powder and could possibly to breath problems. diatomeen earth is natural and also the best, for using for example in chicken farms because if chicken are in mass production farms they most time would get sick from feader fleas etc. now end of biochemistry 😂 hope you understand my swiss-english and i hope it helps you or somebody else here 🙏

I tried getting my pooch on a raw diet but she’s too picky 😢 she refused to eat the most nutritional parts like chicken heart, gizzards, liver, kidney. All she likes is the muscle meat 🙃

Do you serve it raw from the fridge?

Yes raw. Make sure you freeze it first. Especially chicken. I feed mine raw frozen beef. Steak. Blueberries 🫐, Greek yogurt plain. Probiotics. Carrots 🥕

Our cats are fine with it cold. . .if its still partially frozen I usually add a little hot water to help thaw their meal serving (a small enough amount that water is cold from the cold meat before they get it).

did you really delete my comment just telling people to do research?? if you care about dogs don’t delete comments of someone that worries about them and is just telling owners how important it is to research what nutrients they need so they don’t have any deficits whatsoever! I NEVER said a raw diet is bad or anything of the sort, I just want owners to not just throw random stuff at their dog’s plate and call it a day because a small deficit can carry serious health problems, and it’s more and more common every day that goes by Bottom line is: I am not against homemade diets, in fact, I think they are the best IF done correctly, so please do research or contact a veterinary NUTRITIONIST so they can assess you. And don’t delete comments, that makes absolutely no sense when I’m saying everything very respectfully and not even disagreeing with you.

All about money always..... Kibble is a simple and easy money maker.. college teaches student vets that kibble is the BEST because of Money.... I've fed raw diet to my dogs for over 20 years. and recently in the past eight years all home grown meats. All of our dogs surpass their supposed to be age

Comes down to money. Trying to feed a 60lb dog raw is about 400 a month. The only reason I can do it is bc I have a Italian greyhound at 11lbs I can cover the cost. I wont feed my kids kibble ever again once you educate yourself on what garbage it is.

Anecdotal evidence. True, but unreliable. I'm most concerned with a) the balance of that diet (which may be just fine), and b) parasites and diseases. Very worrisome.

might surprise many that we homans reacts pretty much the same way, when swicthing to a carnivore diet... healing diabetes high blood pressure and LOTS other stuff, rash, autoimmune system failures etc.

I've offered my dog all the raw ingredients to see what he liked most. The answer is nothing, he wants no part of it. So he gets cooked food, and he's doing fine. The vet was shocked at how good his blood work was. I wanted to say, that's because I won't let him eat the crap you sell here.
