Could you actually do a video specifically explaining what are the various protocol tests done by vets when a dog or cat is brought in for being ill? Stomach issues, poop issues, other types of infections, etc… It does eventually happen that they get sick enough for a vet visit. That way when the time comes for answering the all important ‘What’s their diet?’ question, we can be armed with ‘Raw food, now start with ___ test please.’

In my country, raw feeding became popular 20 years ago, when we got our first local raw food brand. In the beginning, a lot of vets were skeptical, but things have changed. Today it's extremely common, and everyone just sees it as normal. Keep fighting!
@diverdebbieКүн бұрын
Here in Canada it's impossible to find a practicing vet who supports raw diets. They don't actually get any real nutrition training, but rather a sales seminar put on by the big pet food companies to push their food. In fact, if they do mention raw, they can be threatened they will lose their job or get their license removed. The industry totally appalling. We know that feeding a proper raw diet is never the problem. In fact, since feeding raw my cats never have urinary issues, kidney problems or diabetes... all problems very much caused by dry food with it's extreme lack of moisture and high carb content. Best to just not mention at all that you feed raw. You're never going to change their very set minds, and honeslty why do I have to provide a vet 1001 reasons to try to convince them. No thanks.
@PawsofPreyКүн бұрын
That's awful to hear, but not surprising. I'm sorry!
@skzion2Күн бұрын
It's funny that the first fact about kibble "with everything a pet needs" is that it's so high in carbs. We should assess food not only in what it should have but in what it should not have.

This is going to be controversial on this video and this channel but you should absolutely, under no circumstances, ever give your pet raw food that you would not eat raw yourself. I am a technical consultant to manufacturers and have consulted companies that make food processing equipment. I have worked with companies that process and distribute food. I make my dog’s food and there is no way I would ever give them beef, chicken, or anything from a grocery store without it being properly prepared or cooked. Almost all our food comes from commercial industrial farms. It’s processed in factories and distributed across the country. These companies do the best they can but there are still a huge number of cases of foodborne illness and multiple recalls each year. About 1 in 7 people will get a foodborne this year. 125,000 will end up in the hospital. 3000 will die. It is reckless and irresponsible to put your pets at risk like this! True cats and dogs are prey animals and have eaten raw meat until modern times. The food you get now is not the same as what they preyed upon in the past. If you are going to produce and harvest raw food for your pet, more power to you. Be if you’re going to the store, you are putting your pets at risk.
@skzion2Күн бұрын
Since dogs & cats are almost never fed a raw diet, the statistics you cite are from feeding a conventional diet. Isn't that an indictment of the status quo?
@bryanjohnfieldsКүн бұрын
The statics I cited are for people! People in general eat cooked food, and still get sick from it. Only a small percentage of the food we buy is safe to eat raw. If it is not safe for people to eat raw it is not safe for animals to eat raw.
@PawsofPreyКүн бұрын
Feeding a cooked diet is absolutely fine, and much better than processed dry food. However, you have to understand that humans, canines, and felines are different species that have a completely different digestive system and biological processes for metabolizing food.
@skzion222 сағат бұрын
@@bryanjohnfields You are correct -- you were talking about people. But why do you assume that dogs and cats have the same dietary restrictions that people do? Fire has been a tool for hominids for 1-2 million years, and that includes cooking. That does make a difference. We can also process carbohydrates much easier than dogs or cats. Note that vultures can eat stuff that neither dogs nor cats would touch.

Thank you!!!! I had a vet try to tell me dogs could not digest raw bones! I knew she was wrong but had to wait for the radiologist’s findings which proved she WAS wrong! That was a very expensive bill! Dogs can definitely eat raw bones with NO problem!

I wish I cld feed my puppy raw, but it’s simply too expensive and time consuming. He eats kibble w as much fresh toppers I can get (mostly raw eggs) but one day I hope I can feed him raw completely. Your channel is informative and helpful!
@neiya886218 сағат бұрын
It’s really not as expensive as people think. We just got use to very cheap food. It could be made more affordable depending on how and where the food is sourced. Is it more expensive? Yes. However, kibble is fast food. Fast food is usually cheaper, don’t compare raw to kibble when it comes to pricing. You get what you pay for. My dog is ten pounds, that really helps me keep the price down because he doesn’t need as much food. However, if I had a larger dog, I would consider feeding one cooked meal and one raw meal a day. Find meat on sale. Find an Asian market. Butcher shops are a good place to get bones and maybe organ meat. I feed commercial raw because it’s more manageable for me. My dog’s stomach didn’t agree with food I put together myself. Switching to raw is a huge adjustment, some dogs will have difficulty with the change.

I unfortunately have to lie to my vet and just say that my pup eats a gently cooked diet to avoid any controversy over feeding raw. Needless to say they always compliment on his shiny coat and white teeth. He hasn't had any health issues eating raw. And for special occasions (such as his birthday, New Years Eve, Christmas etc) he gets goodies from the butcher, like chicken liver and marrow bones and sirloin steak, and he LOVES it (he is also a big fan of bell peppers, carrots and green beans, he is a very healthy senior dog, he is so full of life, I can hardly understand that he will be 9 years old next year. His behavior hasn't changed much since he was 2 years old he is my darling goofball ^^

Just do not discuss diet with your vet. There’s not a vet in my town that is pro raw feeding. But there is a bunch of us that are doing it and none of us get any hassles from the vet. Probably because our animals are healthy. So just don’t discuss diet with your vet. Summer open to it, or not. The problem comes when you come across a vet or a clinic who refused to see Raffet animals. To me that’s criminal. But if they’re the only vet clinic in town and they have that policy, then your choices are either find a vet out of town or lie through your teeth. It’s sad that it’s come down to this nowadays, but that’s what some people have to deal with. I know somebody who’s vet does not accept Raffet animals and she just flat lives their teeth to the vet. And she always will. Because she’s not feeding kibble.

You should never lie to your vet. Some problems can be related to the diet. Just prove to them that youre using caution and the meal is balanced. If theyre still not convinced and they bother you about it then its time to switch vets. In my experience, most vets are ok with it as long as theyre healthy, you're safely preparing it, and its balanced.@nogames8982

@nogames8982Күн бұрын
I agree. But also, it’s not that simple sometimes. The closest holistic vet to me is about three hours away. And there’s only so many veterinarians in this town. If you purposely are looking for one that is a pro raw feeder, you’re gonna be up a creek without a paddle. But if you just don’t discuss diet with your vet, then you’re fine. There’s not a vet in my town that is pro raw feeding. But there are many of us here that do feed Raw. You do it right your animal stays healthy. If your animal does have health issues, you do have to be ready for the vet to automatically blame raw feeding. If they know you are raw feeding. You don’t have to tell them.

Pets who eat a natural diet will have slightly different bloodwork values than that of a commercial fed pet, and this is totally normal! Unfortunately the parameters of "normal" are commercial fed pets, so anything that's slightly different is deemed abnormal, sigh. As long as these kidney values aren't increasing over time, your cat is completely healthy.
