What's irrational about the concept of reincarnation? Just seems optimistic or hopeful.
@ASTROPLANET13 Жыл бұрын
@@Epiousios18I'm not sure if it counts as irrational, just that to me it's kind of pointless. I view it as an ancient attempt at instilling empathy in people when you remind them they *LITERALLY* could be walking in somone else's shoes. But sadists and the selfish don't care. They prioritize the now so it's a weak incentive imo. Also, if my memories are gone and my brain (assuming I have one) is fundamentally different , is that a good analogy of the self? Hell no. A butterfly ain't gon ponder about human wants. I guess if nectar is code for pootang.
@sebasitn Жыл бұрын
@@ASTROPLANET13 Calling it some golden rule justification coming from up top neglects the stellar literature arguing in favor of reincarnation like what you find in Plato. If you read the dialogue, Phaedo, I promise you'll come away thinking there's a whole lot more informing the belief than merely attempts at normalization. Questioning what the transmigratory "self" might be is an interesting topic of discussion, which mountains of lit in the Eastern canon has tried addressing. I think it's premature to handwave so much work and thought merely on the basis that it's not an effective tool for sustaining social harmony, following from your norm-setting assumption, and using what for many is the starting point for their investigation of the self, how it in some way may constitute the constellation of conditions, to dismiss the whole idea.

Sila (morality) is a core tenet of Buddhism. It's all over the Noble Eightfold Path (which is the guide to Enlightenment in Buddhism). Even the spokes of the Path that aren't explicitly about sila are strengthened and guarded by proper sila. To be fair to Zizek, most Westerners don't bother engaging with sila all that much and are more concerned with "being spiritual" and meditation making them feel good.

At the heart of the caste system is the idea that something is what it is and remains what it is, before and after its incarnation. So a dalit is a dalit is a dalit, and that doesn't change. A dalit remains eternally a dalit, and it leaves no room for exceptions, I assume.

The idea of reincarnation has existed in Judaism and Christianity as well.
@Uncle_Dave_Dave11 ай бұрын
to correct you, reincarnation still exists in judaism. takes 10-14 generations depending on who you ask. True christianity is much closer to islam. In that, if you die correctly, you never have to return to this shit hole. This is the training ground for a soul, and that to move to heaven, you have to dismiss earthly things, and instead be concerned about the true common good, and truth. The cycle ends, and the souls that have been rejecting authority in the form of truth are deleted. You don't "go to hell" god eliminates that aspect of himself because spending energy to sustain evil beings is clearly a waste of fing time.

There is no past birth or next birth because there’s is no eternal immortal inner self independent of its constituent cause and conditions. Body and mind dies decays disintegrates and disperses. The spiritual worldview isn’t true but it’s a lot like living in your favorite anime or Marvel slop where larger than life characters are battling demonic hordes and plagues of locusts and shit or you have New Agers and pseudo-Gnostics fighting inter dimensional archons farming bad vibes from humanity for sustenance like some kind of cosmic Phillip-Morris. The informal spirituality is so much funnier than the standard organized stuff- because they’ll have whatever their favorite conspiracies are all mixed and matched together like a Chinese buffet and suddenly Robin Williams is on the Galactic Council consulting with the 5th dimensional beings on humanity’s ascension and smoking blunts and drinking brews are religious sacraments. Shout out to Prince Phillip for wanting to reincarnate as a disease. I choose to believe he got his wish as one of those novel COVID strains from a year or two ago

This made me realize how the process of reincarnation is just something that happens, it’s not like the Christian (and I guess Islamic) idea of Heaven or hell that necessitates you believing in a specific god and that he has judgement and control over the universe, and if you don’t believe then you’re going to the bad place. Really makes reincarnation just seem like a pretty neutral idea (I guess you don’t even need a religion around it to believe in it) and the Abrahamic religions seem like such an obvious scam lol
