I used to love RTR about 10 years ago! Their pieces used to be WAY more trendy and fashionable and the pieces of clothing were more expensive yet costed less to rent, so it made way more sense to rent rather than buy. Idk what happened to this company over time... 😕

Same! They were hemorrhaging investor money trying to build brand equity, prove growth, and sustain the Unlimited business (if you lived in a place with a trade-in drop off, you literally could rent four pieces everyday, and they had to clean every piece even if you didn’t wear it and pay for same day delivery.) However, they also went public last year and to do so, they needed a positive balance sheet, so they started cutting ton of costs, like getting rid of the unlimited plan, less expensive brands, etc. It was good while it lasted 😢

Yep I’ve used it for a couple military balls, last time was 2014? The same dresses show up for me nowand they’re far more expensive to rent

If I paid $250 to rent a dress for four days and it was literally falling apart I’d probably cry 😅 the dresses all were very pretty, though! And the fact that you can rent designer sunglasses for $10 is insane!!

I used rent the runway for one of my prom and homecoming dances. I rented a prom dress from their website and a homecoming dress on their website and it was the best decision I have ever made! I rented a really nice, expensive dress for 70 bucks for my prom and I loved it! I didn't have to worry about spending tons of money on a dress that was just going to sit in my closet collecting dust! Same with the homecoming dress, spent about 50 dollars to rent it for 4 days and it was a great decision!! Highly recommend for proms or weddings!!

@@krisscoss8907 It was the best decision/purchase I have ever made! Borrowing a dress is also nice too!! I honestly tried to borrow a dress from someone but it was too small for me. This was a great option for me as I didn't have to spend a ton of money to get the dress that I wanted in the size that I wanted. (Which I think at the time they sent me two different sizes for free, and I guess now it's not idk) 😊❤

I could see using this to rent bridesmaid dresses if they had multiples in all of the sizes. And if you had, like, a really one-off fancy event to go to, where you'd have to wear a ballgown type situation.

I think that renting maybe formal wear could make sense as its usually a single use item and especially if you get a high priced designer dress for a cheap rental but otherwise renting summer dressed or casual dresses just seems like a waste of money as you can find sooooo many similar styles at a low cost to purchase.

This is a concept I don´t necessarily get. I mean... I get it for the "black tie" or "white tie" dress, wedding dress... You don´t want to spend hundreds of dollars for just one night so you rent a dress for 60 bucks. That´s totally fine. But the casual ones? I don´t see the appeal in it, especially since I can buy a good quality dress which would probably look similar for the same price...

Loved the beach round, you all looked chic. I don’t think it’s worth it in the long run because if you have enough fancy events to go to you’ll get a better bang for you buck just saving up for a few things you can wear over and over 🙊plus tailoring etc…

Love RTR! It’s a great way to expand your everyday wardrobe & try trends you wouldn’t normally explore. I don’t actually use it for special occasions.

I've done rent the runway for a number of weddings. I like it since I tend to only wear the dress once. I have noticed you need to plan ahead. Some are older styles, which is unfortunate. The best part is if you have issues you can request a back up, they send it to you the next day.

A lot of designer clothes are expensive because they are attached to the name of designer. Kinda like how fine art is more expensive when it comes from a famous artist.

@@Solsiva Oh! I wasn’t trying to imply that you didn’t know that. Mostly trying to say that rent the runway is “special” purely because it’s attached to those expensive/famous brands and not because the clothes are actually particularly special in and of themselves. I’d guess that a lot of them have been seen on runways just because that’s how those brands advertise but mostly its just a naming gimmick as far as I can tell.

They have insurance on the clothes, so they aren’t as cautious and don’t charge customers. They are more cautious now about certain pieces of an outfit going missing though (belts now have separate barcodes) Once a piece is is deemed not rentable or lessens in value, they’ll put it up in their various sample sales (in person or online)

The clothes aren't cheap but not ridiculously expensive (not Hermes expensive) - I can see the business making their money back easily, especially if they have deals with certain designers. Considering how difficult it is to know what something looks like on rather than just in photo, I don't think it's for me.

Rent the runway is horrible to work with. I had two items that didn’t fit, shipped them back immediately. They couldn’t get anything back to me before I left for vacation. I got stuck paying 2 months for 2 items I didn’t even end up wearing because they wrinkled so bad. Even though I only had two items they refused to credit me for anything.
