I don't mind these videos like this but what I really have loved about your channel was your transparency with your budget. I'm nearing debt freedom and wish there were more people in BS3 and beyond sharing their budgets. And I miss 5 frugal things.

Totally agree that thrifting and flipping is ethical! By all accounts, I’m rich and affluent, and part of how I’ve gotten that way is by not buying most things new - the secondhand landscape in LA is vast and amazing! It definitely enables my family to live very well on a lot less than our peers!

Pls keep these side hustle videos coming!!! I thrift and flip for profit and paid for my Disney world vacation with my bestie solely through eBay profits last year. It was the best trip ever and no debts were incurred!! Love u and Katy together❤️

Please do more of these type vids, BG!! I love side hustle videos, especially reselling/flipping items from thrift stores, estate/garage sales, etc. I've been selling on eBay for about 3 years now, and it's been a fun (time-intensive but you get faster the more you do it) side hustle for me. I've learned SO much about how to sell products online, and I love it! BTW: I don't think it's unethical to resell items from thrift stores. Like you mentioned, they have more things donated than they know what to do with. And it gives those items new "life" with someone who will appreciate it.
@BudgetsKale5 жыл бұрын
Love this video! I think the best thing about the Goodwill bins is that it's essentially the "last chance" before these items are thrown out. Not donated. Not given to help anyone, but thrown out! So you're giving new life to these items, whether that new home is you or someone else. And if you make a profit with that, even better! I resell on Poshmark (side hustle level, but some do this full time) and most of it is from the bins.
@PenniesNotPerfection5 жыл бұрын
Definitely think reselling is fine. A lot of people do it and I’m surprised people think it’s unethical. It’s not like you are taking free donations to resell. thrift stores are for everyone not just “poor people”. So fun you met up with people in Portland!
@orhidejaskale64525 жыл бұрын
The only downside to this is that you have to have enough space to store the items. I know a guy whose small apartment is packed with stuff to resell, and this stuff really gets in everybody's way and makes the apartment hard to clean. As for your KZbin channel, I feel that your earlier videos (while still in debt) were much more raw, honest and interesting, I think that is what your viewers want.

@biancawoller21625 жыл бұрын
It 100% is! You hit the nail on the head with "there's more than enough for everyone". I have a video or collab idea too: Some sort of "product" review/ comparison on Costco and/or Sam's Club. I'm in school and really trying to cut costs, but I spend so little on groceries (~$70/ month) that I don't think it would be worth it. Classmates have said that memberships pay for themselves because of the cheap gas, but both of those stores are out of my way, so I'm not totally convinced.

Good video! Everything you said is correct. We can all shop where we choose. I’m not poor but love to live on budget and prefer a bargain over new items. It pays off to live this way because I’m retired now for 3 years as is my husband and we just turned 60.
@sandyseibelhager71315 жыл бұрын
Whoever said only low income should shop at thrift stores is ridiculous. Frugal people regardless of income shop at thrift stores. I believe that only low income should, for example, take resources from a food pantry. If you can afford to feed yourself you should not take resources from someone who can't. A thrift store is a store where you pay for goods. The store sets the price and it would be discriminatory to limit who they would sell to. A food pantry is giving items away and has a finite amount of food to give away. If someone takes something and they run out then someone else potentially can not receive benefit.

Really enjoyed these thrift and flip videos! I have sold many items through eBay, gumtree and Facebook marketplace and buy/swap/sell pages in the past, but it has all been stuff I have already owned, I have never bought anything from a thrift shop with the intention of reselling it.. I might keep an eye out for something next time I am thrifting!

I used to go to a discount grocery store (dented cans/smooshed boxes, just out of date items). The parking lot was filled with BMW's, Mercedes, Cadillac's, Jags etc. They said they needed everyone to come and buy or else they'd be out of business.

Oh and a humorous story from going to the Goodwill Distribution center near me. I was browsing the bins and stumbled across a binder where somebody has put Pay this $hit in sharpie. I had a good laugh and quickly posted it to social media.

The unethical part to me would be not paying taxes on the profit from flipping thrift store items. Even if you only do this part-time, it is considered income, and people should be reporting it as such.
@kaelaleedaley5 жыл бұрын
These are for sure some good points. I agree that people should be able to purchase an item, use their skills to improve or repurchase it and then resell it. My issue is with people combing charity shops for the best quality items and then selling them for an inflated price online. This is for several reasons - 1. These high quality items are rarer in charity shops, meaning that anyone combing for profit is taking everything for themselves and leaving little for others. 2. Charity shops exist to raise money and awareness for their charity, to be a funnel of recycled goods, to benefit anyone in the local area and to provide an affordable way to purchase essentials for those on low incomes, etc, etc. I love your videos, your thoughtful content and your energising take on life - I've been watching you progress so some time now and I would call myself a BG fan! My only ethical qualms concerning this issue was a person of your popularity and position promoting this type of (in my opinion) grey-area selling. It can be seen as a promotion and support of this "side-hustle" which could influence many more people to take to this behaviour. I have formerly known people who do this and I would not recommend it to anyone. You often don't realise the item's true value, you can spend out a lot of money and never make a sale, your home can easily become a dumping ground and sales are not reliable. What we personally place value on is not necessarily the same as to what others would. It's still a grey area for me but I still love and support you 💖 xx
