Hi! I recently saw your video on the BambuLab A1 - and it was it that motivated me to get one for myself, given that it was a model suitable for the printing of miniatures. I have been having a really fun time with it - however, I have ONE small, or big issue: Support configurations. I have been trying to understand the different settings present within Bambu Studio, and I think I have a general understanding of it, however, I haven't been able to mimic the ones you used in your printed miniatures in the video. Easy to break, while retaining the quality of the model. May you disclose which settings you used? Or perhaps, which general standard I should follow when printing minis? Oh, and apologies if my english isn't exactly ideal, for it is not my main language. Thanks!

The only downside for resin printing for me it's the resin disposal, being toxic it's not easy to dispose if you live in certain countries/cities. Plus the resin it's expensive and you can't make lot of things with one bottle

I can’t say I fully agree with that comment. I feel your attitude towards resin printing has been more encouraging than “get good.” It reminds me that resin printing CAN be done easily as long as you take the right precautions. When I have a failed print, I understand how to diagnose the issue and make the proper adjustments thanks to this channel specifically. I personally use a GKTWO due to printing in a very cold environment and use MINIRATER any time I’m shopping for a mini

Temperature is always my biggest problem both from resin being too hot and too cold. I live in a deseet area that gets snow in the winter. I cant wait till a manufacturer uses peltiers to auto heat and auto cool the resin before the print. After temp like you said is supports.

I had been struggling with presupported models and resin printing. Then I stumbled across your early vids with mini-rater and learned how to check for islands and resupported the models I was having trouble with. Some also needed repair which you taught me about using Microsofts repair tool. I had a regular photon and looked into it and with a firmware update a I could use RERF. So I installed that and dailed in my resin. Point is I get the original comment. I hit a lot of the hurdles when it came to resin printing and this was after watching a fair amount or videos on set up and tweaking. Yours was the first to mention all of these things. You are part of the solution and I post you videos for new folks asking questions on the Internet all the time.

When I received my initial Creality LD-002H, I set it up, opened the default slicer, loaded a Fotis Mint Model (Great job by Charro, of course), selected the Creality Standard Resin, sliced to the USB drive, selected the model and pressed Print. The next morning I was awarded with a beautiful bust. It wasn't until a good 6 months in that I opened Pandora's Box of setting values and learned that things could be complicated.

I don't own a resin printer and I'm not sure if I ever will. Regardless, I appreciate understanding how they work and comparing contrasting that to how my FDM printer works. This same concept applies to dialing in FDM filaments so I can see how people see all the possible knobs to turn in the slicer and get overwhelmed so having something like this to zero in on the key settings (and the impact of changing each) helps those new to the hobby. The main problem with resin printing are not the settings imo. Everything else is - hazardous materials that have to be stored and properly disposed of, contaminated fluids, fumes and cleaning and curing are much bigger hurdles than not having dialed in settings.

I bought a photon mono 2, watched two KZbin videos and started printing Warhammer + other figures (I printed cute shrek models for my co-workers) with almost no actual calibrating of my printer. I googled a profile for the resin I was using, and just use auto-supports in the anycubic slicer (for unsupported files I use). Prints aren't 'professional quality' but more than good enough for me. Entirely plug and play! I love it.

I'm only six minutes in and I'm nodding my head along in agreement with your Day 0 experience. I understood very little, but knew enough to run a couple exposure calibrations (I don't remember where I got the guidance from), then it was off to the races. Every other problem I ran in to early on was due to either lousy supports or self-inflicted stupidity. There's little effort in getting to pounding out some decent minis--if they're well supported. I'd say it does require a bit of a curious, detail-oriented mindset, but little more. One does quickly need to understand more about good workflows and OMG environmental safety, but that's a separate topic. Love this video so far. Thank you!

I have had a few different printers over the years. My resin printer has been the one with the least complications. Your intro into resin printing was very similar to mine. Dove right in head first and had it figured out after 2 failed prints and a google search.

The comment is kinda of spot on for many KZbinr creators regardless of subject. Watching a video where the creator has received all of their expensive gadgets for free, who is waxing on about how easy the hobby is can be a bit vexing. For me personally, the biggest barriers to resin 3d printing is the mess and toxicity. FDM printers now produce very good table ready results, also FDM printers have broader non-game uses, so I would love to see more FDM no support mini videos and more STLs. Thanks for your dedication to trying to bring more people into the hobby.

As someone new to 3D Printing as in just got the printer, I can attest that there is a whole lot more to the hobby than I was anticipating. What a money pit it has turned into. Yet, I have not lost my determination to get it up and running. Hopefully this channel can help as I just found it. I have a Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra just out of the box today and well it can be a bit overwhelming yet I never give up on a challenge easily. Research phase commencing. With the small bit of youtube research that I did when I started (fauxhammer and dennyswang) I found resin printing so easy and satisfying. My issues came with efficiency and cleanliness. Your videos on your process helped tremendously with helping to streamline my process. Now I just need a great video on simple disposel of the inevitable waste. I have my system but it is not as perfect as I would like. Also way more content needs to push PPE and room safety.

I really appreciate this and the last video. It voiced exactly how I was feeling watching KZbinrs preach how easy a thousand+ dollar machine was, but the "ease" was really just the resin calibration. You still have to think about everything else with resin printing. It felt really gross and purposefully misleading.

In my experience newbies to the hobby assume their problems are exposure and don't have enough knowledge to know that is likely NOT the problem. My own story is very illuminating of this, I bought an Anycubic photon S, and had non stop problems. Poor adhesion, failed supports, etc etc etc. I leveled, and re-leveled the bed, nothing would work. I ended up buying an EPAX 3d printer, they were at the time pre-leveled since that would allow me to eliminate a variable. It worked fine when I got it. I printed a bunch, and everything was fine, then I printed with the anycubic resin. I had the same failures. What the actual problem was, is the temperature was too low for the anycubic resin, but the epax resin could handle that temp. The moral of the story is, we hyper focus on what we THINK is wrong, without having the experience to know what is wrong. I don't have a great solution to the problem, having gone through it, it was incredibly frustrating. Now that the hobby is much more common, my strongest suggestion is to find someone local to you that also uses a 3d printer, buy them a case of beer and ask them to help you diagnose the problem. Once you have some time and success under your belt you will be much better able to figure out what the problem is.

I've been resin printing for about 3 years now. One of the biggest things for me was getting over the mental barrier of this is a hobby in of itself, finding the time to learn things and troubleshooting the issues I experienced. I didn't have the best start, my first machine was the Elegoo Saturn S. I went through a lot of failures, one of the biggest was that I punctured a hole in the FEP. A big second that the worst thing about 3D printing is the absolute PITA it is to empty the vat for any reason. I later found the crux of having so many failures was using pretty bad/fragile resin. After I had switched 99% of my problems went away. I've since went to a Uniformation GK2, very happy with Sunlu ABS like, and printing OPR, Trench Crusade models, and whatever cool things I can print for my friends and family with basically no issues.

To the comment at the beginning of the video, I rushed into 3D printing with no experience. I didn't look up any reviews, I simply got a printer around the mid range price point. I've been printing for a full year at this point, this guy's video are so helpful and easy to understand. The beginners video he did, made it so after only 3 adjusting prints, I've been able to run the same setting for the passed year. I mainly support my own files by honestly just looking at my minis and using common sense logic to support them.

lmao could have needed this video two weeks ago. Got into 3D printing due to your FDM vid (A1) and bought a P1S during the black friday sales. A few beginner's hurdles but by god this shit is fun as fuck. Nifty little things I need around the house or for the hobby (I printed a miniature photo studio for god's sake. And Only because I could!) No big issues if there is a failure, throw the spaghett away, try again, yay FDM! Then as all things progress I got a little more curious, watching more and more videos about printing and hearing about resin, resin, resin. "Oh the detail and its much easier than FDM!" 'lo and behold I took the plunge, Gotten a Mars 5 Ultra + Wash n Cure station from elegoo. Using the water washable resin and bought a shitload of PPE, turning my basement into, what most people that saw the pictures, dubbed a "amateur math lab". First print was 50% failure as much shit fell off of the supports. The second print I fiddled with the settings using the calibration matrix still failures. Printed a few more times with meh to bad results. Not really convincing or as exciting as FDM was. Cleanup for every failure was annoying as shit. Then THE print... something fell off of the plate during print, gotten stamped into the filter and the fucking resin leaked on the whole printer. I'll be honest I was very close to throwing that fucking printer out of the window. Ordered a new film and replaced it. fiddled some more with the settings on the Mars 5 Ultra and had a heated discussion with Elegoo. They were lovely people. It's working now, I've quadrupled my pile of shame by myself. But after my experience and the time I've spent cleaning up resin I would absolutely not recommend resin to any of my friends. FDM is easier and less of a hassle than resin IMO. I know, I'm an absolute noob and maybe there is some magic thing I should've done from the start but that's my experience. Sorry for the word vomit.

I've been using just the cones on their own, and an interesting topic came up in discord. "We should look at the success and failure side less as pass/fail, and more shooting for an optimum minimum diameter. If you need supports of 0.26mm, you can use the cones to calibrate so the 0.26 cone doesn't fail" Which is what I use when I need my 'delicate' support, I calibrate my settings for my resin until the first cone past 'fail' stays intact.

I just started earlier today. It isn't hard. There's just an equipment barrier. Calibrate your settings using one of a million terrific guides. The rest is all about your equipment. Wash & Cure station, gloves, alcohol, and resin handling procedure.

I bought my first printer a few months back now, an Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra, and I have to say it has been nothing but smooth sailing. I've gone through print failures, dialing in the resin, woes with heating (as my workshop is outdoors and England is cold most of the bloody time), and this was limited to my first three prints. Now though, I just set it going and walk away on a daily basis. Everything has more or less come out sharp and as intended... and all it took was, as you said, that little bit of work at the beginning. And now I have more orks than I know what to do with! The only issue I occasionally get is early layers attaching to the FEP and not the build plate. This is really rare though, and just means doing a part over. There's been no struggle for me yet, and I hope it long continues that way for me. If a lazy, read-the-instructions-once old git like me can pick it up, I think literally anyone can. Just pick your printer and go for it. It's a great fun hobby I'd recommend to anyone (and way cheaper than buying minis in the long run).

I really with there was a way to force your resin prints to have a longer "off time" setting for the last 20 to 50 layers, because I'm 98% sure those weird little holes on the top of models are from bubbles being agitated from the build plate moving in and out of the resin

I just got myself a Saturn 4 Ultra and surprisingly the tilting vat mechanism prevents the bubbles from forming, because the print never leaves the resin till it's complete

I never engaged with any kind of 3d printing before I started with my mono 2 last year And honestly, just using default lychee profile was all I needed for my miniatures I did have a fuck up where I used the profile on anycubic website,but that one had way overturned speeds, resulting in a lot of failures But after I resolved that,it was okay The only major issue that comes to printing in my opinion, is learning how to do supports That part was for me and still is the biggest obstacle when it comes to printing, while I learned a crap ton in a year to the point that I have pretty much zero print failures when I support stuff myself, it still took a very long time I know I haven't seen the video yet, just the comment from that guy lol, but what he said was nonsense, again coming from someone who started from nothing and learned it all by myself

I may not have been a true beginner, I was messing with FDM machines and had watched several resin videos before starting, but I had next to no issues starting with my Saturn 4 Ultra. Trust me coming from a non-bambu lab FDM printer to this, even after switching from an ancient free FDM printer to one way more modern, Resin is 1000x easier to get going. There's literally one mechanical part, the print arm, and the screen. As opposed to FDM where you have 3 arm motors and extrusion to worry about and potentially calibrate

Well said. From a "beginner perspective," I knew resin would be difficult when I first started. So, what did I do? I watched about 2 hours on YT to get the basics from supports, hollowing, and proper cleaning and safety. Then I learned about calibrating to improve the results. Just like anything, a little prep work will allow you to "git gud."

I literally bought a Mars5 Ultra and just ran the sucker on default settings for several weeks and was happy as a pig in poo until I decided to run cones of calibration. Brought exposure down to 2.3 from 2.5, brought my burn in layer down to 25s instead of thirty something... And yeah, I've left it the hell alone ever since then. Come winter I've got some work to do, but for now during summer yeah it's really not crazy difficult stuff. Most of the difficulty has been working out the best way to work with cleaning, keeping my workspace tidy, etc. etc. I think some people are just so goddamn afraid of trying something and failing that they just start assuming everything is out of their reach and anyone else who's doing it immediately draws their ire.

to be fair, the Mars 5 is a very good printer, i just got one and have been running it non stope for weeks with different resins and release film types and the only failures ive had where from cold resin. it being able to self diagnose itself is extremely useful to new users, you no longer have to do much of the leveling and failure detection yourself like you use to years ago so this hobby is only getting easier to get into.

The settings are not a problem. There is nothing too scary about resin printing at all. Except the resin ... which is kinda terrifying. Beginners shouldn't be in the same street as this stuff until they understand what they are working with and this is what some youtubers fail at getting across. Sure safety is kind of boring, but it is also important and kind of hard here. This channel is better than most, but still waves around a UV light and can sometimes be a bit "oh well fuck it" when a glove is ripped and resin is inside the skin.

Gasoline is more dangerous and you pump it every week, at some point we have to agree that if people don't think they are an adults that can adapt and learn, they shouldn't get into resin printing, resin doesn't scare me, its the 5 gallons of fuel grade alchohol I have in my room to clean it, its highly flammable and toxic to breath and where people should put most attention to in PPE.

Yeah, it helped. But not in the way you might think. Purchased my first FDM printer less than a month ago and have been “just doing it”, solving problems and learning as I go. Curve has been steep so far and am really enjoying the process and the outcomes. Plan to step into resin within the next six months or so and will do the same. If I had more space for both a resin printer and a washing station, I'd be more interested. But I also did check out how much the actual resin costs in my country, and it was just so far outside of what I want to pay. I researched how much material models used, found some examples, went by that to calculate the actual costs and came to the conclusion that with the cheapest resin bottles sold here, I'd be paying 4-6x as much per as the FDM-printed version of the same model. Yeah, we have some crazy taxes and stuff, and it's not even Brazil!

I second this. I just did some calibration on my Saturn 4 Ultra with the RERF and keeping track of which print was in which position was a nightmare.

I've had an elegoo mars for years and never used it as : 1)I need to replace the FEP which TBH is only mildly intimidating and I know I'm more than capable I would just want to show someone who's competent after I'm done for that thumbs up and 2) my main barrier is that my wife became pregnant shortly after getting it and now we have a child and I'm probably overcautious about the fumes. Having previously owned a Tevo Tarantula that I actually got printing well (even contributed to a commonly used custom marlin firmware with adding in improvement to 5he BL touch support when that was new) I'm generally not averse to fiddling with machines .However, despite that Resin in those days was unaffordable and with at the time poor slicer support compared to FDM the early workarounds were quite complex. Since elegoo came out with the mars and S3d moved to a subscription model leading to rapid improvements in competitors trying to scrape that business its much easier. I think the early difficulties in access and how janky fixes for slicers were at the time for msla then people who've been in for a long time are mostly, IMO, still the "RTFM I run Arch btw" types which has led to the stereotype described.

resin printing isn't so much as difficult as it is messy, unwieldy and toxic. You can print FDM whenever you want, leave the filament out after printing (within reason), don't have to buy extra also toxic solvents to wash the print, an extra device/setup to cure the print, and deal with ALSO toxic waste. Not to mention not everyone has a workshop or are willing to potentially expose their children or pets to toxic materials. Honestly miniature sculptors should work more on dedicated supportless FDM printable miniatures, it will reach a much wider audience and get more revenue in the process. And anything that's FDM printable will also be resin printable.

one thing i have to say about bottom layer exposure settings: i having for the same resin 2 different profiles (miniatures and statues / figures) i found out that i cant get to the sweet spot so when i setting it low then my bigger prints like huge bases wont stick because of gravitation. If i setting it to high then i have to fight when i want to remove the miniatures from the plate. Theoretically over time is better then undertime because it might be less damaging taking the risk of scratching the plate rater then wasting resin and clean the tank but it depends also. So thats why im using 2 different profiles depending of what i actually want to print. Thats just my opinion i wanted to say but im sure this wall of text will not be read at all so yeah :D

I am borderline geriatric in age. The ONLY part of your production that is not optimal in my humble opinion is the language. I have been in the Army long enough to mostly disregard that. What you do is incredibly helpful and your delivery is encouraging and extremely informative. I ordered my first printer, a Bambu A1, last week in large part because of you. Hey great video i dont own any kind of 3d printer yet. Printing whole minis is relatively easy to figure out, but the information I lacked that made me quit was how to glue minis together (or maybe mix resins) so that they are actually durable. I really wanted to print some minis for my Mechanicus but after putting them together one bump would break them. Even gluing them together seems really difficult because of warping. Could you do a video on how to assemble flimsy minis (for extra challenge, the Ironstrider would be a great example).

I picked up a mars 3 a few years back and changed a few settings to match the first resin I got and haven't touched the settings since, I chuck any resin in it and it just prints what I need, I'm sure I could change the settings each resin and get more accurate prints but tbh I'm not that bothered, more than happy with what it prints

Yes, it is brilliant, slightly Beta but well worth using. You can dump 50 parts into it and hit auto layout and it will add extra beds and organise all the parts so you don't have to.

I tried FDM printing for years, I was constantly fettling the printer to get to to work, I stayed away from resin printing because it was seen as the "more difficult" of the at home 3d printer types. I looked at YT videos on resin 3d (from this channel and others), bought a resin 3d printer, and discovered they are easier then FDM for me, the resin printers are "plug and play" type machines, any issues I have had were caused by user error, or incorrectly pre-supported files (that I have quickly learnt to spot and correct).

One small tip: please protect your printer from UV light. I was printing under a roof, with a UV protector and the lid on, and my prints would still overcure even with super low times and my resin IN THE TANK would cure because UV was so insanely strong during summer.

In 2020 i spent 200 dollars on a novamaker elfin2 and printed a heroes infinite model in about 2 hours. 3d printing is not rhat hard to get into but like anything if you dont put time and effort in it will forever be a daunting task

Research household chemical waste recycling options near you, there may be options. For me there's these events and I recently went to one to recycle all my resin waste, as well as some motor oil and a few other things. Worst case scenario if you can just set it outside to evaporate over a long period of time that might be your best bet

With printers like S4U it's actually easy, you don't even have to understand everything before getting good prints after single rerf print and evolve with your own understanding of doing something wrong, like too big of a burn-in time or oversupporting, it's hell a lot easier than, for example, building FDM printer and configuring it from scratch, e.g. far from being "full time hobby" it's just a large step to begin and only from perspective of money

if you are new... resin is easy...there are many resources out there so don't be afraid to get in there! you will make errors but most models are pre-supported...and you will figure it out!

My issue has never been the printer settings. The issue has always been dealing with the slicer. There is a drastic difference between my results in Lychee and Chitubox. I tend to have the best success with Chitubox but even then, there were supports that just disappeared from the original support file.

I need a resin printer that has the user experience of Bambu Lab. Ill stick to FDM for now. I think it has one or two more generations of printers to go until I can get on board with it.

What is the bare minimum I need to do to have safe printing? Some people have very minimal environments set up (like they don’t worry too much about vapors etc…) and some are super hardcore with ventilation up the wazoo. I think that’s my obstacle in the road atm.

Yup, resin printing is easy, it's just a huge pain in the butt in terms of safety and cleaning. But getting rad minis really is very easy. I watched this channels guide on it and I was printing in no time. Things like temperature are the biggest annoyance I find, and I solved that by getting those little blower heaters and then that's it. Replacing FEPs is ANNOYING but that's the worst of it.
