Not as good as the first one, but a worthy sequel. Loved how they turned the "good old man" from the previous movie into someone just as an asshole as Dick, showing how there are no "good guys" in corporations as OCP. The whole "anyone can buy our stocks, there is nothing more democratic than that" is an amazing line, one of the best in the series. The satire on parents's reactions to the first movie is fantastic, so is Frank Miller's cameo which took me decades to notice. Also, the new design! A lot of people still complains about how they changed Robocop's color, why? He is a cop, of course he has to be blue! A great movie, underrated, even by the franchise's creator.

Come on man...there is no good people in a corporation? You don't really believe that nonsense right? There is good and bad everywhere in this world from the highest heights of the financial hierarchy to the lowest low. I happen to know two men that worked in big pharma (surgeons and board members) that helped me out as a kid for free. They saved my life and didn't ask my family for one red cent. They didn't publicize it when they had the chance and were apart of my life until I was well into my 20's. Without them or their expertise...I would either be dead or completely disabled. Because of them I am able to work with disabled children. So please...not all corporate climbers are bad people. It only seems that way because the media at large has painted that picture for years. No, you want to talk about pure Dick Johnson's look at the media. Every corner of mass media is filled with scum. Robocop 1 and 2 are incredible films.

Well, in the first one OCP were not seen as good guys either. When the ED-209 killed one of the executives in the demonstration, they only cared about the time and money wasted producing the robot, particularly the old man. They couldn't care less that someone was just massacred.

The ending is abrupt but absolutely perfect. Murphy struggles with his humanity the entire movie and is literally reprogrammed to not be human, and its not until the end when we know, that he knows, with that single perfect line, "Patience Louis, we're only human." Gets me everytime 😢

*_RoboCop 2_* will always be a favorite of mine since I was a lil kid. It may not be as perfect as the first film, but I do love how it focuses more on the themes of corporate corruption and how OCP and the Mayor fight over control over the city, and the lengths OCP are willing to go to achieve their goals, even if it means using a psychopathic drug lord for a new RoboCop model. And RoboCain was badass, he's like a walking tank, all thanks to Phil Tippet's amazing go-motion effects, something we will never see again in the age of CGI. That and the final battle between Murphy and RoboCain was one of the best robot fights in cinema history. "You're coming with me, Cain." And Leonard Rosemann's music score is amazing to listen to.

Good video! The great thing about RoboCop 2 that most don't pick up on is how it's basically poking fun at the idea of sequels and trying to top the original. OCP is trying to make a successor to RoboCop that's better in every way, but they can't. It also satirizes how companies water down their R-rated properties to make them family friendly, with RoboCop becoming family friendly to make the corporate interests happy. However, I do feel Robo and Lewis don't have as much character development. Lewis feels more like a sidekick and the movie quickly abandons the idea of exploring RoboCop's humanity after the scene between him and his former wife. Despite this, I still love RoboCop 2.

Robocop 2 is one of the best sequels ever made. To be honest I don't think a lot of people understand it, and that's why it gets hated on. I'm glad I'm not the only one who puts it up there with Aliens, T2, and Godfather 2 as the best sequels ever made. And for the record, I dig the way you edited the original score into the outro into the credit. That worked really well imo.

What would have made sense is Robocop remaining grey until he's torn apart by Cain's gang and the rebuild makes him more a softer, friendlier police officer blue by corporate committee (should have been a throwaway line in that board room scene). But Kershner, Miller and Company are no Verhoeven, Miner, Neumeier, on their best day. Leonard Rosenman has the thankless job of following up Basil Pouledoris. A job he was destined to fail at, and forever be second best. The Robocop 2 theme is more optimistic and heroic, when Robocop's original first music score is supposed to be somber, cyberpunk, & dystopian. Robocop 2 is too bright, too shiny, too clean, and not bloody enough to be a great sequel. It's merely okay.

Great review. Love seeing Robocop content. Definitely agree that the sequel is good. However, I think the original Robocop is one of the greatest films ever made. The perfect balance of 80s B movie mixed with actual thought provoking commentary that's still relevant today. Robocop 2 is good but I think it lacks the satirical wit and soul of the original. The best sequel ever made I think is probably The Dark Knight. Even though I think Batman Begins' grit and atmosphere is far better.

A few notes; They should have had Lewis get blasted almost to death heroically helping Murphy and then make her the first truly successful 2nd RoboCop. They should have had Murphy's son make the effort at the end to see him to tease his full return to humanity. Then RoboCop 3 is about parenting. He parent/mentors Lewis in her transition to cyborg and rediscovers how to parent his son.

I think this movie was underrated by the critics in general. It has pretty much all of the first movie. Same main cast (those who survived the first movie lol), a completely new original score, as entertaining as the first one, good plot etc. The only thing that gets Robocop 2 away from being great or as good as the first movie it's his lack of real emotions. You don't feel the sadness, the darkness, the vengeance feeling and the madness of all the many villains. Cain is the only great villain of the movie. Everybody around him seems to act like puppies or having no personality.

Robocop 2 is a masterful piece. It’s not only about the privatization of the government, but also about the privatization of the person. Alex Murphy was privatized, that’s why the Doctor Fax told him that without the pieces of mechanical body, he was only a few humans organs. Because of this privatization he never saw his family again. But at the end, the human spirit of fight won over the adversity when murphy said: “Patience Louis, we are only humans”.

I loved Hob in Robocop 2. Did you know that Hob's sub machine-gun is real and it's even cooler than you may think? It is a UC-M21 (real name DEB-M21)folding machine gun. It was designed to look like a handheld portable radiolike they used in the late 1980's. It has a quick release latch that enables the weapon to go from inanimate object to dealer of death in one motion. It can fold back together with one simple motion as well...I want one! Fun Fact: The DEB-M21 has now been redesigned to resemble a portable hard drive but functions just the same. It fires a 9x19mm round from a detachable 30 round Uzi magazine. It's cyclic rate is 650-850 rounds per minute. As of the making of Robocop 2 there is one UC-M21 and 8 DEB-M21's in private collections. Fun Fact #2- You can purchase a real life Auto 9 (Robocop's gun) from Collection Werks. We're talking a fully functional custom handgun built to spec.

Whenever I think back on RoboCop 2, there are moments that come to mind immediately that make me smile or make me think how clever they are. Then I rewatch the film and . . . it just doesn't cohere for me as a story. It feels like a bunch of interesting ideas jumbled together with a shoddy structure, and the tone is more cartoony than satirical like the Verhoeven original. Still, not the worst sequel in the world. They tried at least.

The one thing that really bugged me was the fact that OCP and the Old Man's stern, no-nonsense visions for OCP were half-lobotomized and had the missing chunks replaced with hamfisted "corporations bad!!!!" and half-baked Yahtzee imagery. It would've been more interesting if the Old Man and Johnson's rivalry were much more apparent and it was the latter who ended up presenting RoboCop 2 in proper.

Better sequels include Terminator 2, Empire Strikes back and Aliens. But Robocop 2 is a good sequel that doesn't match the amazingness of the original completely.

I'm not sure if this is such a great movie. But it definitely contains one of the greatest insults ever said on film: "Go f**k a refrigerator, peckerneck!!!" :))))

I do like RoboCop 2 a lot, Peter Weller really outdoes his performance in the first. Sometimes it can feel like it's all edge with no point, as you might expect with Frank Miller, but for the most part they do a great job continuing the world of RoboCop. My biggest problem is the ending, all the corrupt guys get away with it and Robo's final line doesn't feel significant

I dont think its BETTER than the first, but i do think it is a great movie, only complaint is the dated Stop Motion FX but the good far outweighs the bad on this one

There's a coronation street actor as a extra playing a news reporter trying to get a quote off the old man as he leaves the building. He got into the movie because his wife is Liza gibbons, the news presenter throughout the movie.

Yeah, I'd say so. Or as good as any sequel ever made. Arguably better than the first, IMO, because it shows why Robocop isn't just a man unfortunate enough to be forced into life as a cyborg by OCP, but why he is a true superhero. His life as a cyborg is tragic, but Robocop's sense of duty compels him to transcend his circumstances. We see this when, after he's driven all OCP's programming from his mind and is free from all prime directives, he CHOOSES to be the ultimate police officer. I guess I'd say it is just as good as the first; the first introduces Robocop's circumstances, 2 shows how and why he deals with them and rises above them and what makes him special.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Verhoeven is the better director among all the robocop movies. His Robocop movie was by far the best out of the lot, including 2014 version.

So glad I caught this and Terminator 2 in the cinema when they came out, and the latter is the only sequel that may exceed it from a critical and revolutionary perspective, but this is the peak of the old school sci-fi action blockbusters.

it's a pretty good movie but very tonally dissonant. 1st one feels much more cohesive and coherent. Robocop 2 feels like 2 or 3 good scripts were smashed together and none of them get a full moment in the spotlight so the build up is botched. It could really benefit from a re-edit because it has some really interesting themes going on.

Robocop 2 is one of the best sequels ever. If the first film is a satire of the 1980’s, part two is a satire of sequels. Robocop 2 even has trailers for the sequel in the film! The kids are fucked in the head, kinda what social media has done to kids these days. Then, Robocain hits the scene. Bigger, badder, and unhinged. There is even a boardroom scene that decides what a sequel should be--just like in real life what studios decide what a sequel should be-completely undermining a direct and/or writer’s vision. This is the epitome of sequels-bigger, badder, more bodies. Robocop 2 is a great sequel and the hate that it gets is super-unwarranted.

Yeah Robocop 2 and Predator 2 are highly underrated. Robocop 2 was definitely more of an action film and a serviceable sequel. Cain was like a Hunter Killer from The Terminator future war in that warehouse scene.

If you're going to throw Ghostbusters II and Jaws 2 in the same realm of bad sequels, then RoboCop 2 is right there along side them. While most say they are not better than it's predecessor, it is a very worthy sequel and accompanies the original just fine without destroying the franchise. Oddly enough, for decades they've aired Ghostbusters II much more than the original, with many saying if they caught both movies at the same time on television, they would watch two over one.
