Ive been running ozone on our 75 gallon mix reef for years. With carbon capturing some ozone after the reaction chamber. If you want absolutely perfectly clear water like you just did a 100% water change run ozone. The fish look like they are floating in the air. With the corals showing you their true color and pop!

I try using the least amount of additives when reefing. I use what I need to use but there are some folks that are gear junkies and slam a system with everything they’ve seen on the internet. My recommendation is always to take the minimalist approach and go up from there as needed.

I’m currently trying to do this. The issue I’m running into is the ph benefits I get from the scrubbed air are null the second my ozon kicks on because the ozone sucks fresh air not scrubbed :S

I wish if you mentioned if you should have an air pump before the air dryer or not? Also how do you know when the Corona discharge needs to be replaced.

If your using a air dryer you would put a air pump before the dryer to push the air through it into the ozone generator. If you use a air dryer the corona discharge should last at least 2-3 years.

I'm an ozone junkie. An hour a day keeps odors and yellow away. I wonder if Ozone on a recirculating skimmer would sterilize some?

Me too! Its the best techie purchase I’ve made for my reef! A little goes a long way especially once it been up and running awhile. Its been awhile (don’t quote me lol) but I think Randy Holms did a paper on ozone and discussed the sterilization aspect of ozone in reef tanks. The conclusion was it wasn’t in high enough doses to really sterilize like sanitation plants. Once the level of ozone was high enough to begin sterilization it was harmful to inhabitants.

Unfortunately, not too many skimmers these days offer an ozone ready feature. Reef Octopus' INT elite skimmers work great for this, but aren't terribly small.

I got a weird question for you guys. Can you clean live rock using a power washer? Or will it shred to rock to pieces?

Depends on the rock type and what setting you have your power washer on. For rock like Pukani (which is really porous and "soft"), a power washer probably isn't a great option. If you're power washing reef saver, you'll probably be just fine. Just test on one piece before doing all of your rock.

So it sounds like the ideal is to run it through the (main, recirc, CO2 scrubbed) skimmer one hour per day in the am before you would be viewing the tank and have carbon on the skimmer air out for safety (O3 is not good to breath).

There was video from the Poseidon people saying the volume of O3 produced in a normal room with standard air exchanger turn over makes this a non event. That's all I have to go one so take it for what it's worth. Now back in my old dorm room years ago???

Putting the carbon on the skimmer output is not for the ozone, it is for ozone by-products such as bromides.

My tank doesn't have a bad smell when you go right up to the water and smell it it has the smell of a healthy tank if I can say it like just one more thing to Tinker with that you really don't need

Most public aquariums use ozone, it is hands down the best way to get pristine water clarity, but if you're already happy then keep doing what you're doing.

I would imagine (guessing) the myth about affecting the pH is rooted in what happens when organics die in water. Since ozone helps process this differently perhaps people believe the opposite reaction will happen (raise pH instead of the normal lowering). The decay of organics essentially absorb/bind O2 lowering pH. The same happens in MN lakes in the winter when plants die under the ice leading to O2 deprived water and a need to aerate to keep fish alive. In the summer a similar situation occurs when large algae mats die off or smother undergrowth... and since warmer water cannot retain as much O2 it exacerbates the problem. The myth is then perhaps simply debunked because people aren't driving around pumping O3 into lakes. Change the chemistry... change the world. 🤯 I blacked out during my days with the department of natural resources... most of that should be accurate.

You are correct. I use ozone and use a redox and PH probe and noticed that ozone lowers a bit the PH when used.

oxygen does affect ph, not sure why you dont think it does, my tap water is 7.5 straight out of the tap, oxygenize it and it goes up to 8.2, same as if you were adding co2 your ph would drop
