My company deals in pure trace elements taken from the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Watching this, I think we'll start testing it to see how it does. BTW, these trace elements are a fantastic fertilizer for poor soil.

I’ve been questioning myself over time: are all trace elements really desirable or good? Just because the tank is consuming is not an answer they’re good for corals. Sometimes I feel we could be feeding even nuissance organisms instead, dinos being one good example: one important action when fighting dinos is just to stop trace elements replenishment and even avoid water changes. Old tanks seemed to go over many nuissance algae blooms before maturing: could depletion of some not so wanted elements be part of that. We actually need better insight of this that I believe will come to light some day...

I recently learned that flowerpot corals (goniopora and its buddies) require you to maintain manganese and (I want to say vanadium but I could be wrong) to thrive long-term.

Did you guys ever do the ICP testing on the calcium reactor media, you mentioned it in the video, but I haven't been able to find it. Also, did you guys ever test the mag supplement for the calcium reactors? I've always run Mag media with my calcium reactor trying to help keep up the mag, but your in-depth insights would be invaluable.

Is it true that certain trace elements affect specific coral color? Like, does more iron, for example, mean more green? I feel like it is really hard to tell because things like acropora change colors on their own a lot.

I had dosed the KZ 1/2/3/4 and the KZ Coral Boost with KZ Flatworm Stop. I did notice my Acro's polyp extension was really impressive. I'd like to start back dosing micros with something more economical. Any idea on which KZ product is known for causing the Polyp extension? That's something that I would like get back.

Check out KZ's Pohl's Xtra. We've been using it (along with other KZ products) on the BRS160 for a while now and have been seeing great results in the polyp extension department.

@BRStv 4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it just takes time. Usually keeping an elevated alk level will help it grow faster, but that's pretty anecdotal advice. There are some coralline in a bottle type products out there, specifically from ARC Reef, that might help you establish coralline if that's a goal of yours.

I just started Coraline growth after my tank has been setup for 5 months. a lot of snails and hermit shell I bough had Coraline when I got them about 4 months back but it just took time for it to spread. Not sure if its a coincidence but my coraline started growing at the same time as I got hair algea and a cyano outbreak.
@PatrickJewellTheGreat
@PatrickJewellTheGreat 4 жыл бұрын
Bluer spectrum light seems to be beneficial. Keeping your pH and alkalinity elevated and not letting it fall below natural seawater. I want to look into the coralline in a bottle, but making sure you have existing snails with coralline or rocks will definitely get coralline growing.

How did we ever make it before trace elements were available for dosing? 😂🤣😂 So if our tank has been thriving and growing for many years without dosing trace elements, why start? I may give it a shot for the hell of it on the new build.

The problem is that we can´t measure trace elements yet. ICP is a joke and Triton is complete crap. Well that being said I´m using carbocalcium as my main source of alk and calcium and because I´m reaching the maximum carbocalcium dose I´m dosing a little bit of topic marin balling to reach my alk goal ( around 8 ) . My SPS tank is running fantastic. First of all balling and salts has impurities, and guess what, those impurities are trace elements. Kalk has impurities, food has impurities and all those impurities are trace elements. So, a lot of tanks really doesn´t need any kind of trace element supplementation. Best Regards

Do you have a link to your tank?
@Fabian46838
@Fabian46838 4 жыл бұрын
I do agree for a large part with you man, especially when you would feed a lot of (diverse) foods and coral foods, then i'm quite positive trace elements will also be taken up from the food/coral food. However, when running a cheato reactor or large refugium, algae could easily outcompete the corals for trace elements... also, while i'm positive most trace elements are in foods and coral foods (and fish poo for that matter), i am not sure if trace elements . In the end, trace elements are necessary for metabolic functions and thus also growth, therefore i hypothesize that when missing some trace elements, it could potentially inhibit growth of corals. But surely interesting stuff and in hope future icp technologies will become much cheaper, so we get a larger window in the metabolic health of our corals! not only useful in reef tanks but potentially also for corals in the wild!

Why’s ICP a joke? Are they unable to accurately measure the elements they claim to? And give us a link to your tank, because right now you’re just a guy with a keyboard.
@Fabian46838
@Fabian46838 4 жыл бұрын
@@glasscanvasart5273 ICP’s are no joke, although they are not as accurate as they claim (especially not for trace elements, as these are extremely difficult and expensive to measure accurate). But they are great to see if your tank is “sailing in the right direction” in the sense that for instance there is no build up of heavy metals or other pollutants. But even next to those there are many substances ICP cant measure! So its the best afforable thing at the moment.
