Downtown is cute. What area of town do you think has changed the most in recent years?

@@SalemOR No clue 😆 my sense of direction is awful so I never really wandered around and I am disabled and in a wheelchair 🤔 I did however ride the city bus 🚌 for years a lot of that area doesn't look as good as it used to.

Did you feel like the city bus was pretty good at getting around town?

@@SalemOR for the most part yes however with some of the bus drivers no 🤷🏻‍♀️

I lived in Salem (from 15 until 34 years old) and also spent my younger childhood in the surrounding areas but I left Oregon completely 7 years ago. Salem is lame and Covid didn't make it lame. Downtown Salem has been lame since I could remember. Everything is closed at 9pm and it has always been that way. When they open up any form of entertainment that is late night it gets shut down because of fights or the people living downtown complain of the noise. From what I hear from my family that still lives in the area. Salem is nothing but homeless people, drugs, and crime. I would never move back to Salem. Oh and the rent and home prices were ridiculous when I left I can only imagine what they are now.

Keep Salem Lame! Any hip urban center is soon overrun by the sort of dbags one finds in Portland or Austin. I’ll take the bums, mentals, and fussbudget home gardeners over them.

I'm from a very small town in Eastern Washington, this was a huge place to me when i moved here in 2009 😅 I prefer the slower pace 😊

That makes sense. Salem is bigger than some places but by no means is it a big city. What size of town did you come from?

@@SalemOR I don't know if it's changed now given that I haven't lived there since 2009 but there is a city called Kettle Falls and a city called Colville in Washington 🤗

Love living in Salem! It’s cool to visit a big city but go home to a more laid back place. Downtown is cute and quaint especially in Christmas.

Did you relocate to Salem?

@@SalemOR Yes. I lived in Manila, Philippines before moving here. I was used to malls closing at midnight everyday and was so shocked when malls closed at 8 here. I eventually got used to the slower pace of life and love it now.

I hope the Mall downtown will have a rising Phoenix kinda moment. Its currently a very sad mall, but there is a lot of potential. What other things caught you off guard when you relocated to Salem?

Whats your take? Do you think Salem is boring/lame?

@SalemOR It is slow paced that is for sure, but I like that. I grew up in Las Vegas, and when I moved here in 1991, it was a culture shock for sure. As time went on Salem grew and I adjusted. I love Salem despite all that crap talking about it. Salem has tons to offer, folks just need to get out and find it. The thing about Salem is, the folks that live here hate change. They whine on Facebook about crime but don't take into account all states have crime. Or they whine how we have no restaurants here, and then they will bash a new place because they think the prices are too high. What I recommend to anyone moving here, STAY OFf SOCIAL MEDIA and really explore the area before passing judgement.

Salem is located in a perfect spot.. 45 minutes to Portland, 1.5 to the coast, 3 hrs to the desert, California border or Seattle.. (Maybe a little longer depending on the speed you drive 😀)
