No, no it's not. I'm really shocked at how overly dramatic people are being about the sexual content in this.

This movie is very well written. I don’t get how people can watch a film with period sex, grave fucking, manipulation, and very blunt dialogue and then suddenly want subtlety at the end. This is a movie that stays very true to itself.

Having scenes to shock the audience and spoon-feeding them are not the same thing.

And you and I will have to agree to disagree about whether it’s spoon-feeding an audience or finishing the narrative on the same terms and tone it started with.

@@BrianCVDI liked the very last scene around the mansion, but the montage was not necessary. Much more effective to let people discover those things when thinking about the movie afterward.

@@mcguigan67 I challenge that notion of effectiveness on this particular story. Oliver was on a seventeen year mission where he could never reveal his actual goals. The sheer relish he had with Elsbeth when his walls came down, revealing everything to her (and US) was celebrating his work. Work he could only show us. That immediately feeds into the final naked dance scene. It goes together. The entire script is setting us towards that relish. So in my opinion, it was fantastically written and everything, including the reveals, is appropriate for this story.

the scene that I found super disturbing was just the cut from venecia taking the bath to the shot of her dead in there and the bath water is so darkly red and she’s so numb and cold looking

Compared to MANY movies, very little is actually shown here. Other than Venitia's butt in the field, no female nudity. Felix in the tub pleasuring himself, we only see his neck area. Then there is the only actual nudity in the film - the naked dance at the end - which makes perfect sense and it's not in a sexual context. There are only three "sex" scenes - the one with Farliegh and Ollie is in silhouette and we don't actually see anything, one scene is sex with dirt - also in silhouette. The Vampire scene - again we see nothing much. No body parts, one kiss. There is no blatant violence, only one shot of Venitia in a bathtub of blood. But to hear some reactions there is some insane graphic scenes - there aren't! It's how confronting desire is uncomfortable for some people. The film drips with beauty and desire, without actually showing anything graphic. Fennell is a master!

Omg so well put!! I feel like people who rate the film lower than a 9/10 aka, these guys, just haven’t watched it enough and only focus on what the masses are talking/disturbed about. The literary references are just insane. There are so many layers to this film and not a lot of people making videos reviewing/reacting to it are doing enough research to uncover the mastery.

No. Not even in the slightest. I’m shocked people are so disturbed tbh. There was barely any nudity. People just amaze me with their bs. The Vampire scene, intrigued me. Maybe I’m sick. 😅 The Grave scene, I understood it. The Bath Tub scene, the drain suckage made me cringe. Why the drain dude, whhhhhyyy 😂😂😂 All in all though, loved the film and I believe it deserves all of the accolades. She (Emerald) hands down best director of the year. Period!

Interesting how Alex and Will view the film not being from the UK. I think there’s a lot of nuance that’s specific to the British class system and UK culture it definitely comes across differently in the writing and detail wise. Great stuff as usual lads!

An unreliable narrator is a narrator whose credibility is compromise. They can be found in fiction and film, and range from children to mature characters. The term was coined in 1961 by Wayne C. Booth in The Rhetoric of Fiction. While unreliable narrators are almost by definition first-person narrators, arguments have been made for the existence of unreliable second- and third-person narrators, especially within the context of film and television, and sometimes also in literature. Sometimes the narrator's unreliability is made immediately evident. For instance, a story may open with the narrator making a plainly false or delusional claim or admitting to being severely mentally ill, or the story itself may have a frame in which the narrator appears as a character, with clues to the character's unreliability. A more dramatic use of the device delays the revelation until near the story's end. In some cases, the reader discovers that in the foregoing narrative, the narrator had concealed or greatly misrepresented vital pieces of information. Such a twist ending forces readers to reconsider their point of view and experience of the story. In some cases the narrator's unreliability is never fully revealed but only hinted at, leaving readers to wonder how much the narrator should be trusted and how the story should be interpreted. While the provocative bathtub, vampire, and grave scenes were undeniably captivating, it was the more subtle moments that truly drew me in, revealing the intricate workings of a sociopath's mind. A prime example is when Ollie realizes their destination is Prescot. The scenes that follow deftly expose his compulsive, habitual, and pathological lying, enriching the complexity of his character. Additionally, his cunning interaction with Lady Elspeth is noteworthy. He manipulates her phobia against ugliness by insinuating the challenges her daughter Venetia must face due to having such a beautiful mother. This, along with his cold dismissal of a college acquaintance-a numbers expert-sharply underscores Oliver's strategic and calculating approach to relationships.

@@ShotByShotPodcast Now even more days removed, it’s slowly approaching my All-Time Top 10, I think 😂 I already dragged my dad to go see it, and now that it’s on Prime, I’ve rewatched it on my own for a third time. Honestly, I think the very ending scene was a genius move. It set an entirely different tone for the movie, both in retrospect and on rewatch. I can’t get that song out of my head!!

This is a very poor adaptation of Bridesnead Revisited. The Brit TV series, the 2007 movie, and the original book about WW2, Catholicism, and homosexuality are all classic and well done. This fast-fashion Tik Tok version is homophobic, poorly written, and depicts gay men as perverts. Fennell has taken England back to the Victorian days with this mess.
