San Diego County is home to more Mexican restaurants than most counties across the United States.
A new study by the Pew Research Center ranked San Diego County #3 for having the most Mexican restaurants, behind Los Angeles County and Harris County in Texas.

I love LA but the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to are in San Diego. This news segment captured two of my favorites: El Cuervo and La Posta in Hillcrest. When I was a student at UCSD living in the neighborhood my absolute favorite meal was the chile relleno burrito at Cuervo. Whenever I visit I still gotta have it and I buy two so I can take one back to LA with me. But for late night eats, when Cuervo was closed, La Posta was the bomb!!

Notwithstanding the fact that San Diego, CA is fairly close to the Mexican border, a Spanish ambience still pervades the City. As a matter of fact, San Diego, CA is so reminiscent of these two cities in Southern Spain (Andalucía) - Cádiz and Málaga. For some strange reason, the timeless music of Spanish singer-songwriter JULIO IGLESIAS always reminds me of San Diego, CA.

Do we all agree that lettuce and rice, and even beans don't belong in say, a carne asada burrito? Just meat and guac, and maybe pico de gallo. I wish more places made smaller burritos, though, like La Mesita does on 70th and University. Or carne asada tacos, like El Zarape on Park and Adams does. I wish Vallarta would have a regular red salsa.

What border? This report is short sited on its observation. We have the most diverse selection for Latin food. All “Mexican” eateries are not the same. You need to ask where the cook is from to determine the style of cuisine is being served. Another subject to consider is it actually more expensive to eat south of the border than in San Diego. On the other hand, my go to California burrito started at $3.95 in the 90s it’s now $16. I can no longer afford to eat Mexican food here or south of the border. I’m lucky my mother taught me how to cook. I’ve often wondered how many Mexican eateries that only accept cash are fronts for the cartels laundering dinero. 😮🙏💪🌍🌎🌏❤️🇺🇸🖖

Yes and it's incredibly annoying. I can't go 3 blocks without seeing a taco shop on almost every corner. And also everywhere I look I see nothing but Liquor stores. That's ALL I ever see where I live is just stupid taco shops and liquor stores. How about they put something useful in my area like a Pharmacy, hospital, or supermarket instead of Tacos and alcohol?

Just the point of reference if the people can talk English, it’s probably not authentic. Just letting you guys know in South Texas the Taqueria places some of the ladies in there don’t talk English.
