the repeating fight sequence in every episode is a parody/unironic use of villain of the week structures in kids anime. I'm not even talking shonen stuff but like Anpanman demographic parodying. Its also a convention of the director of the show and it always adds a familiar wackiness to all the shows he works on. It also makes it more impactful when we begin to stray away from the structure as the drama becomes more intense in later episodes.

I'd argue there's repetition and then there's over-repetition. It's a thin line between motif and looking lazy and this treads that line very closely early on.

@@TrashTierWaifu The repetition this time was just too long. The Rose Tower scene in Utena and the "penguin hat Himari walking down the stairs" sequence both consumed much less time than this. In Sarazanmai, they last longer, and do end up feeling like filler for the main plot. That being said, I agree, this show was excellent. Top tier soundtrack, animation, and humor, plus some moving character relations. It was immersive in its atmosphere and got more hate than it deserved. I think people were disappointed with it after Penguindrum and Utena, like with latter Trigger shows...Good review.

Great watch, watched it last night and honestly one of the more phenomenal yaois I’ve watched I need more like it lol, while I agree that the repetition of animation is lazy but it makes me love it anymore. Repetition can be so comforting and can be used as a tool to shake up the entire story as per the last episode showed us. Sarzanmai 10/10
