Gotta love how both Lovecraft and Giger operate in the genre of cosmic horror, yet one derives dread from the ultimate insignificance of human condition, and the other from the certainty of ones place as a cog in a greater whole. Truly a Gamer.

Yeah, one questions your place in a world that was shown to be so, sooo, soooooo much grander in scale and scope then any of us could even understand. And force us to face our new reality in that landscape. While the other simply dosent care about you, to it your not even a living thing in the machines eyes, its isnt that your forced to face the idea of being dust in the wake of something bigger. Its that your be8ng tortured, teased, abused and throw around like an object, calious to your pain or begging. Simply because it see your as the worthless tool that your truely are.

Giger is not cosmic horror. Body horror MAYBE, but that's an oversimplification of his biomechanical-sexual style. The scary bits are the same as the pleasure bits with Giger. Meaning that while some will find his work arousing - others will be alienated by the implication of human pleasure as literally purely mechanical. Seeing it simply as horror is missing the forest for the trees.

@meltedWax169
@meltedWax169 Ай бұрын
I like to say that intelligence often comes with a cost. That cost tends to be awareness. And being aware, promotes being depressed, because the world we live in is a rotten place where we constantly strive for the better... if you believe in a better, that is. People suck, they are born, live, and die. Some early, some later. Some the second they left the womb, some the second the entered. We all die.. just.. it matters what you do before it. How you affect those around you.. And intelligence, in my opinion, often curses you with being aware and empathetic to those around you. You feel their suffering, you understand their suffering.. And the worst is when you want to help, but truly understand there is nothing you can do, except try.. and to some, to many, that isnt even enough. Or it's too much. Idk i'm rambling now. I hope this made some sort of sense.@@grapenut6094

My boy, getting that sweet and spicy bacon burger. As both a former employee and semi regular patron of whataburger I applaud and respect you as a man of culture. I see where you cut the feed to say combo because I know the script, you must specify sandwich or combo, and as all whataburger restaurants are corporate owned with no franchises, it is interesting to see how the drive thru script has changed. When I worked there circa 2011, we had to start every interaction with "thank you for choosing whataburger, would you like to hear our specials?" which includes the aforementioned burger as well as the patty melt, honey BBQ chicken strip sandwich, and whatever else they have a big picture of at the time. That being said this is an incredibly interesting video and this along with your hardspace shipbreaker video got me extremely invested in your unique style of content. If I could afford it, I would support you on patreon, but my current meager salary only let's me get my name in the credits of 2 creators at a monthly cost of 15 dollars. This video did, however, get me to take a second look at this game that I tried for about 20 minutes when I first got my current pc, and I have stuck with it a lot longer now understanding the symbolism you have displayed here. Cosmic and Body horror is pretty well represented, but as always the execution in horror media gets kind of wierd. It didn't amaze me and i know most of the people won't get a thought on it. I found it quite sickening actually. Like, he's able to see and comprehend and articulate to others the nature of the horror, and yet he still rewards it and participates with it. Acting as though his own actions don't matter in the face of the incomprehensibly large systemic nature of the oppression. But they do. They matter a lot. You don't get to just shrug your shoulders and say "hey man, it's a systemic problem" as an excuse for not having to change or take responsibility. It's so morally lazy and ethically bankrupt. You're basically saying that you only care about the suffering of others insofar as it's not your responsibility to do something about it. As soon as the gaze turns around on YOU, then comes the excuses and the deflections. We are all cogs in the great machine. And when every single cog thoroughly convinces themselves that their individual contributions don't mean anything, and that there's nothing they can do: they ensure that the machine shall be immortal. They become a compliant part of the undignified pain and suffering, sacrificing their collective power to the status quo. But the ability to destroy the machine was always in their hands. Your hands. My hands. The machine is reliant upon it's cogs to function. The machine requires our obedience and our compliance. But you don't have to give in to it. You can say no, do something different. And when others see you turning away from the machine, maybe they will as well. And if enough cogs come to your way of seeing things, the machine shall be no more.

@@juliagoetia the industry is terrible, but not terrible enough for anybody to be bothered enough to actually take action against it. It is only cattle after all. And pigs. And chickens. We feel empathetic to them but we are separated enough that we can put just how awful it is out of our minds, because as long as the blames not on us then its not trally our fault. Right?

@@juliagoetia This is a cute idea but no, this industry is so thoroughly embedded in society now that only large scale systemic change will do anything to curb the unnecessary suffering. There are millions of "cogs" who don't participate in the meat or dairy industry either through necessity or principle, and yet the machine keeps churning out that sweet, well-marbled red flesh. Is it any more humane to the individual livestock animal if their neck is slit and they are exsanguinated before preparation by hand (halal style) as opposed to industrially processed? No, not really. Then again, all living things consume other living things to continue existing. Who weeps for brassica oleracea as we cut its life short and process its various cultivars into the brussel sprouts you hate and the cabbage you love? Oh, just because you can't hear plants scream you don't think they have *some kind* of response to being reaped? Seems a bit lacking in empathy to me. I was going to eat meat whether it was processed industrially or locally. Me not buying a hamburger at MuhDonal isn't going to stop the industry at all. Especially because it is heavily subsidized in countries, with special note in the US. They dumped billions of gallons of perfectly usable milk, churned up from this exact industry, during the height of pandemic because they couldn't get it out to stores to be put on shelves and sold. And the government had already paid them a hefty sum in the form of subsidies to produce that milk. Literally tankers full of milk just spraying that shit in a ditch or something. There are incentives and forces at play in this larger system that go well and truly beyond the consumer's want for some cheap meat or milk or eggs. I'm sure near every person in the US who enjoys meat and dairy would personally prefer if it were locally produced on a farm where the cattle free roam in a large pen and the chickens aren't kept 10-30k to a chicken house, stacked so tightly they often trample each other and you have to go through and clean up dead poultry that can't even be used. Alas, forces beyond mere consumption have all but buried that kind of industry. Individual actions against this system can only produce instances of moral self-righteousness. Vegans have been shouting for decades now and so far all they've gotten for it are inflated egos and senses of self-worth.

I don't know what happens to dair cows when the out live their purpose, but in South Dakota the guy who held the raigns of the place had my father and a slew of other farmhands de-tag the older cows, and replace thei tags with those of the farm's heifers, before setting a barn on fire and commiting insurance fraud. The bastard burnt the old cows in a barn or milk parlor, been over 20 years now, dad quit and we left the farm. No happy cows, just replaceable machines.

What about the parasite that attaches to you and holds your gun attachments and wallet seed thing that rips you open throughout the game?
@DJPeachCobbler
@DJPeachCobbler 2 жыл бұрын
I hemmed and hawed about including that. The parasite seems to serve a greater purpose. It holds all your extra ammo and health and stuff, and also opens your midsection for the strange mechanical surgeon. It seems, to me, to have a place within whatever it is you're doing. However, its interruption at the end seemed to thwart whatever it was you were being used for? Or, was that intended by "the powers that be"? The fact that it served a utility fascinates me, but was that utility purely out of self-interest? I couldn't reach any sort of conclusion.

@@DJPeachCobbler A paradox of a symbiotic relationship that eventually becomes parasitic and toxic. Some might describe it as practically codependent. There are theories that you actually play 2 different individuals where the first is actually mutated into this parasite, and thus likely shares some goals with the second. The fact that these desires would ultimately be undermined by this very necessary relationship seems to be a further statement on the futility and cruelty of the entire experience.

@@DJPeachCobbler I see it as a sort of “Crab in the bucket” thing. The game implies that parasite is the title screen character who becomes that after blowing up the cum drone room and then a new character is born. It’s almost like the machine’s programmed around potential escape, that at the end of the day misery loves company or the delusion you’re special and different and that’s all you need to keep the cattle from trying to break free.

Like the way I digest the average DJ Peachcobbler video is by watching it multiple times at around 1am with my dad's boyfriend, but I'm so thankful for the fact that all this just even fucking exists. Like I used to love watching Back at the Barnyard as a kid, and for him to just bring that up like it's nothing and then connect it to the prolific torture of domesticated animals to then attach it to scorn, I find so cool. It genuinely changes the way one looks at everything because this one of the very few channels that manage to leave me with something that I have never heard of, nor seen before, and I love that quality so much.

This is one of my favorite videos from one of my favorite content creators. While it isn't the point, this is honestly a great argument for veganism/vegetarianism. No 1 hour documentary showing animals being tossed into meat grinders has managed to make my stomach turn like this one. While the point of the video was to use the horrors of the cattle industry to contextualize scorn, in the process you've also used scorn to contextualize the horrors of the cattle industry. And for some reason, putting the experience of cattle in a familiar lens of Giger style cosmic horror is day ruining. Intentional or not, it's an incredible yet seemingly obvious connection to make, and the nonchalant attitude you have during the more comedic parts of the video only add it it. This is an amazing video peach, and I hope you see that. That said, I was gonna eat beef tacos tonight you fucker 0/10

One of the artistic refrences is the red corruption that in Beksinski's works symbolises decay and corruption - basicly biomechanical rust and infection. It it the thing that kills the lower levels of Scorns world. Scorns artbook also refrences things from the background that were cut from the game, like other Moldmen and the Hemonculi war.
