Gill was having close to 95% control before he got out to this delivery. He underestimated the nefarious angle which Boland creates

Scott Boland, for me, is the "Ryan Harris" (whom I rate very highly) of his generation - a bowler whom started modestly at first class level, but gradually, just kept getting better and better, until, late in his career (when he was finally selected for Australia), he had become genuinely "world class". If Boland can play regular tests for Australia over the next couple of years and get to 100 test wickets (like Ryan Harris), he'll have done exceptionally well, and had an excellent career. He has quickly become one of my favorite payers, and I wish him luck for the remainder of his career. Cheers!

Ironically, he was picked as he was an MCG specialist. His former team mate, Christ Tremain, has more wickets at the MCG at a better average and is 2 years younger than Boland. Tremain may have made an error leaving Victoria when he did.

This is what some people don’t understand when they whinge about X bowler not getting a shot. You don’t need the 4 best bowlers in the country, you need the 4 who will work best together. An attack full of identical bowlers would get found out quickly, regardless how good they were individually

I've been keeping tabs on Peter Siddle's first class career these past few years. He rarely dominates a batting side, he seems to take every 4th match off to rest, but at the end of the season he has taken a fair amount of wickets at a low average. Pretty good for a player near 40. It'd be great if he got to play one or two more Tests before he retires.

He certainly won't. Boland, Jyhe Richardson, Neser... Australian fast bowling stocks are going gangbusters and that means Sids will never have an opportunity again.

I think Boland synergises well with this attack and this perhaps benefits him. Being the consistent metronomic bowler in a line up that includes a hit the deck aggressive seamer and a left arm swinger.

Thank you so much for this proper quality insight. For some reason I tuned into Test Match Special for this day. One of the comms was going on and on about how the Gill and Pujara dismissals were because they were adjusting back to Test cricket after the IPL. I wanted to shout back at them through my phone! 😡😡 The take was particularly horrendous since Pujara was obviously not at IPL, but playing in County Cricket. Surely someone working in cricket in England would know at least that. Thank you Jarrod for making actual insightful analysis that gives us fans gives us fans a deeper understanding of the game.

Just discovered your channel - great video. Boland isn't the greatest bowler ever, but he's definitely up there and I just love watching him make batsmen uncomfortable. His bent front leg on delivery and metronomic accuracy reminds me of McGrath, his unflappable and modest demeanour reminds me of Stuart Clark, then there's his competitive spirit which reminds me of Pete Siddle. It's like Boland has watched all three and combined elements of them into his own action. I'm really looking forward to watching him bowl in the Ashes in England - I reckon he'll make the Duke ball do amazing things!

Still acknowledging Scott Boland is a brilliant bowler but, how can you speculate on a bowler that has only been bowling at an international level for a very short period as being the best ever?
@woopimagpie
@woopimagpie Жыл бұрын
I hear what you're saying, but the difference with Boland is how he started. Usually new bowlers flounder a bit and go for runs until they find their mojo and get comfortable. It sometimes takes years for a bowler to settle in to the groove and get consistent at Test level. Shane Warne was hopeless in the beginning. Jimmy Anderson was laughably bad in his first season. Mitchell Johnson was awful for a surprisingly long time and got dropped several times. Wasim Akram was plain dangerous, extreme pace but no control. Even Glenn McGrath wasn't anything special at the start of his career, he only got the gig before he was really ready because all the good guys were injured. But Scott Boland came along and absolutely skittled them straight away. If form guides are anything to go by he will IMPROVE, which seems crazy given how fantastically well he's begun. That's why he's being talked about. He has the potential to be the greatest ever. He really does.

If Boland gets picked for the upcoming Ashes series it will be interesting to see what happens. He absolutely skittled the Poms last time they played Australia, but that was at the MCG and they were a pretty sad lot - my Grandmother could have gotten a couple of wickets against them. England are a very different prospect now, and are at home where the ball behaviour and conditions are quite different to Australia. Plus the Stokes/McCullum combination is ruthless. The Aussies put on a good show against India but England are the real challenge. Will "bazball" work against the likes of Boland, Starc, Hazelwood, and Cummins? We'll see.

@@weedtopia4.20 The venue was favorably to the Aus. I don't think the Aus can match a full Indian side in the subcontinent. Rohit, Gill, Pujara, Kohli, Rahul, Panth, Axar, Ashwin, Jadeja, Bumrah, Shami. The top 9 guys can bat any day. India and subcontinent favours spin and a sudden match like this on a green track is hard to adjust.

@@atorbGkyou sound like a sore loser the game not being played in India by a not fully fit side what if's but's why's how's and poor umpiring are all just piss poor excuses the game was played on a neutral ground so it didn't favour any side the umpires were good if anything that pitch favoured the Indians yeah sure it was a green top on a overcast first day but guess who was bowling on said green top NOT AUSTRALIA India wasted their opportunity with the ball when they batted the was batting was poor only save by a good partnership towards the end by day three the pitch was a dry dust bowl more suited to the Indian spinners but you only had one just admit it Australia out played India in all aspects of the game
@woopimagpie
@woopimagpie Жыл бұрын
Doubtful that Bumrah could make enough of a difference given how much India lost by. Despite supposedly being this powerhouse in world cricket India haven't won a major tournament for over 10 years. Make all the excuses you like, but the truth is India just aren't level headed enough when it really matters. They panic and make rash decisions, they have forgotten how to dig in and be resilient. It's all about emotion and flourish with India, and that has cost them dearly in the big games. I could level the same criticism at Australia's batters, Warner, Labuschane, Smith, and Head are all very showy flashy batters but they can all dig in and craft an innings when the going is tough. Well, maybe not Warner lately, but you get what I'm saying. But the Australian bowlers are a stark contrast (pardon the pun) to India, they're level headed and consistent. Pat Cummins is Mr Even Keel, and Starc just seems like he's mildly amused by everything, he almost never gets riled up. Siraj, on the other hand, acts like he's 2 years old, having tantrums after every ball and snorting and glaring, for all the good it does him. He needs to chill out and concentrate on line and length instead of getting all up in the batters faces. The intimidatory factor doesn't work if you can't actually bowl that well. He could be a truly great bowler if he stops acting like a child and works on it.
