I worked for Ligonier in Canada in the 1990's and R.C.'s teaching still impacts me to this day. One of the finest theologian pastors of the last 60 years. A brilliant mind and a pastor's caring heart for people. He is dearly missed. This teaching was always at the centre of what R.C. taught, the reliance and dependence on Scripture alone. I'm from that time in the Roman Catholic church when we were not allowed to own or read a bible. We were told that if we have questions, to ask the priest. But the priest would answer us from the Roman Catholic point of view, opening us up to the idolatry of the church. I was fifteen when I quit the church and decided to be an atheist. This went on for twenty years, until I came to the point where I turned to God for help. Since my conversion to Christ, and my reading of scripture, I have seen how wrong our priests were in their teachings. Totally lost. In another video, Dr. Sproul shows how wrong the Catholic way of salvation is.

Trust God when you pray it works. He said all we need to do is ask in prayers. My testimony spans from penury to $47,000 bimonthly, and you stay and doubt that he doesn't answer prayers. Make that altar now and spend time there. A change is on the way. Amen!!!

I think we all need to decided whether or not Scripture is the Word of God. And if it is, then the question would be why would God give us only a partial incomplete guide to the doctrine of Christianity and of salvation? Reading 2 Timothy 3:16-17 for me makes it clear that Scripture is complete...and anything outside of that is just the words of man.

I love RC, truly do but before the New Testament, before the Canon was the Old Testament and many other literary works read and considered by the Israelites. Jude quotes the Book of Enoch and even discusses Michael’s dispute with Satan over Moses body of which no reference is made in Scripture. This is probably known information within the Jewish culture. It’s probably not a bad thing to read the earliest works of the church fathers. There’s probably some insight and knowledge to be gained.

If Sproul believes “scripture alone”, then why did he believe in infant baptism? Why did he believe in a that God causes “everything” to come to pass. Meaning, God causes man to choose Him and causes man to reject Him. In other words, God causes man to do good and to sin. He famously said, “there’s not a random molecule in the universe. And when asked the question about unconditional love he said, in an angry tone, “this isn’t Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.” I love R.C.Sproul but I think he was wrong on so many issues that are plainly articulated in the Bible. It’s plain to me, he followed John Calvin more than he followed Jesus in the areas I just mentioned.

So, first, God does not predestine anyone to hell. Jesus repeatedly calls all to repent and be saved, He says He came to save the lost, and this is consistent back into the old testament (see Ezekiel 18). Aside from scripture, it would be a particularly sadistic godling who sent his creatures to eternal punishment for something they either didn't do or could not control. Which brings us to your point. There is a difference between God's "active, intervening will" and God's "permissive will". Said another way, God always has the final say on everything, but His nature is not to control all creation as mindless automations, but to imbue us with free will. There is certainly a tension between man's actions inside free will and divine election to salvation. But this is what scripture teaches and I trust God to resolve what my limited mind cannot.

The scriptures are more important than anything else, because there's a result of studying the scriptures, so the result of studying the scriptures is that the reception of the Holy Spirit into the body by the Removal of an unclean Spirit from the body that's inherited from the Parent, or else studying the scripture is utterly waste, unfortunately RCS failed to get the result like other scholars.

Lacking authority to define the canon, sola scriptura is a house built on sand. Through the concept of sola scriptura, the best one could expect is a fallible collection of infallible writings. Authority through the church founded by Jesus Christ validates the collection. The authority of this collection, as great as it is, rests on that fundamental authority.

I think your argument is divine oversight, but only by 1/2 measure. If you agree to the hands of the authors of individual books being guided by the Holy Spirit, then its very consistent to extend the process forward to the Holy Spirit overseeing and guiding the assembly of these books which are written at different times and places into the collected works of the bible. One could easily say that the Holy Spirit guided the hands of the attendees of the council of Nicaea. However, that is a far cry from God delegating this authority to a group of men. Playing that line backwards, perhaps God simply delegated the authority of writing the various books to fallible men? No Christians have argued this line
