Shankar is like that kid in school fancy dress competition with rich parents who buy you special costuimes and spend money on props where other kids dont even get a wig but white powder on hair for aged grey hair look. Everything about him is an effort of some technician, camera, vfx, art department and last but not least the great sujatha. People are no longer excited about the vfx or set work. With movies like maharaja on the frontline, shankar needs to have a solid story telling to engage audience. Even rajini fans are enjoying movies like jailer where the character is grounded and does stunts in a less dramatic fashion compared to what rajini did in padaiyappa and baba. Its time to catch up with th etrend or retire. The fact that he made senapathy a bulky loud mouth character in part 2, forgetting what kind of a silent man of action senapathy was in the first part, says nobody did their homework.

This was an excellent commentary. I have felt Shankar's movies are made of disjoint pieces of brilliance that forced to fit together. His screenplay was never fluid. Senapathy was an actual character in Indian. He was a tired and angry old man but had the intelligence, drive and skills to overcome any situation. The makeup and performance were ao good that I barely recognises Kamal Haasan and kept seeing a 75 year old man who cannot be messed with. In Indian 2, I kept seeing Kamal Haasan who is wearing makeup and pretending to be an old man. I didn't see Senapathy. At all.

He definitely isn’t overrated… he’s a pioneer with the way he used technology in making a film . He definitely wastes a lot in making unnecessary expenditures, thereby increasing the budget and facing a risk in the recovery. ‘ I ‘ was a decent film and cud’ve been a decent hit too , if he had cut down on the budget a little bit.. Presently … we can say he’s nearing to be ‘ outdated ‘ rather than overrated…
