Shy, quiet silent cousin here and I’d like to say how sad I feel every time I see a post talking about the negative and absent aspect of the Jamaican father. My siblings and I were so blessed to have had the love, protection and support of not just both parents but both sets of grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles and tons of cousins and let’s not forget the “village” of Sis/Bro/Cuz/Mas This and Miss That … we were surrounded by so many wonderful and caring people (even though as kids we’d sometimes call them fas-eyed people) 😂 My father, all his friends and my uncles were gentle yet strong, positive, fun loving and loving men in our lives. I recognize not everyone grew up with this so I’m grateful for their presence in our lives and thank them endlessly for looking after us. What I see Wayne doing doesn’t come as a surprise or strange or a one-off. I want to believe Jamaica has lots of great loving fathers, uncles and brothers sacrificing for and doing wonderful things for their children and families only perhaps a little too “silent” - we need to hear and see much more of them. Bless up and much love Wayne, Tami, Alex, Gio, Jaxen, Atlas, Oz, Momo and all MTM family!! 🥰🙏

We’ve been blessed for having them in our lives,oh how I wish they’d lived to be a hundred and twenty score years, but I have all the wonderful memories that is pass down the generations to my children grandchildren nephews and Neice’s. I miss my grandparents and aunties uncles so much, I wish all the GOOD AND KIND people was still here with us, and all the wicked and evil ones was taken away.💯💯💯🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🙏🙏🙏 Bless you for your contributions in the comments section, you just brought back some beautiful and emotional memories for me.💕💕❤️💛💚

@@patriciabrown2960 Thank YOU Patricia, it was a pleasure reading your response and I am in complete agreement with you that we were fortunate and blessed with the people - family, friends and neighbours - in our lives. We didn't grow up in privilege or with plenty and neither were the friends or neighbours around us but I never left I was lacking for anything. I grew up in Kingston and was surrounded by so many fruit trees you’d think it was country. My love of planting and gardening today I owe to my grandmother … our yard was lush and bountiful we could supply ourselves with lots and what we didn't grow ourselves someone up the road or around the corner had - - we learned from an early age to share and share alike!! I learned from my elders that nothing is wrong in working diligently and hard because it brought many rewards which we enjoyed to the fullest. Sometimes the simplest of things like in the heat of summer us kids picking and washing mangoes, filling a pudding pan with them and covering them with chipped ice for later when it got dark; then everyone would sit outside in the moonlight eating them while the adults, especially the men, outdid themselves telling duppy & rolling calf stories! 🤣🤣 We’d laugh till we belly bus and tears ran down our faces or we'd run and hide behind our mother’s or granny's skirt!! Most Sundays after coming home from Sunday School there would be a pudding baking on a wood or coal stove - - hell a top/hell a bottom/hallelujah in the middle 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and a piece of ice to shave to make sheer ice with syrup poured on top!! They disciplined us with love and kindness and taught us to work hard, study hard, aspire for better and always put God and family first. They’re all mostly gone now but we keep their memories alive and still continue to live by their teaching as you do as well. I am saddened for today’s generation of parents when I hear the negative stories attributed to them. I want to believe there are far more loving and caring fathers, and mothers, bringing up children in Jamaica and we need to hear more about them and what they’re doing instead of the constant stereotypical images of the deadbeat/absent or abusive fathers we’re led to believe is the true image of the Jamaican man!!! God bless you and yours today!! 🥰🥰🥰

You're not the only one who goes through this Tami. I go through this Every. Single. Day. My husband and I have a teenager, toddler twins AS WELL AS newborn twins and it ain't easy. But God gives us grace and we need to learn to give ourselves the grace to make mistakes; we're not bad moms if we occasionally lose our patience, get angry or totally breakdown. More blessings to your family.

I salute you, Tina and family. This is what we need, mums to be open and honest with their feelings. I battled with parenting, and felt guilty everytime I wanted to run from my 5 T's. Of course, my mum saved me, and dem, plenty plenty times, but never reassured me it was ok to feel guilty etc etc etc. Of course she had her own crosses to bear, bless her. Eventually, it was my children who validated me and told me how much they loved me, and what a food mum I am. I still can't quite believe it, but thank them and feel good. So mums, dont beat up yourselves, as every little smile, hug or kisses is theur way of saying, we're doing fine. Thank you all for sharing your fears, victories, sadness etc in this space. Big help, even dor the 71yr old, Nana😁

LET'S BE HONEST HERE. Being a mommy is HARD WORK. It is a thankless, yet rewarding job. As a parent, you play many roles - a therapist, a teacher, a chef, a coach, a disciplinary, a friend, and most importantly - a student - because you are also learning and navigating all of these roles that people literally spend years getting degrees in!! And here you are wearing all of these "hats" with no prior experience and doing it so gracefully. Certain days you might feel unsure, doubtful, frustrated and TIRED. It's relatable and understandable. But what I can say is that all 5 boys adore you. Their admiration for you shines BRIGHTLY through the camera lens and straight into the hearts of your MTM family. 💖💕❤️
