I tried similar deck the other day and the greatest weakness of this deck is you have a high chance of ramping into nothing: either you don't draw payoff cards or your big things just get killed immediately after you cast them. Another thing is it doesn't have any 'kill' removals and you kinda need them in this format.
@pooter4203 жыл бұрын
I found this to be a huge flaw in the scute mutate deck. The deck has plenty of ways to ramp, but very little ways to answer counter spells to the ramp.

That's what I was seeing too. I love using the inscription of Abundance, but I feel like I need a better range of creature stats to utilize it early and late game. Don't rely upon low stat creatures to try and 5 mana buff and fight, but have cheap mv high stat creatures to fight early on 2 mana, then later buff up... at least that's what I'm imagining.

From my experience, the combination of quandrix apprentice and Druid class is so good that I’d consider both of them to be staple cards in simic ramp. Quandrix apprentice fills your hand with lands, while the Druid class lets you play multiple lands and gains you life so you can survive to the late game. Quandrix apprentice is a wizard so it won’t get bounced by cyclone summoner and the Druid class land creature won’t get bounced either. Cyclone summoner can bounce the Druid class itself, then you can recast it and level it up to make another big creature.

@reinardviloria34333 жыл бұрын
Historically you're definitely wrong. The usual way you beat mid range is either go under by being cheap and aggro or controlling the board and going over the top or just ramping to a top end that just overpowers everything. It's why midrange is so bad in a meta that has a wide selection of cards

I’ve been running a version of this deck for a while now (with some other more focused cards instead of the Komas, mimic, planeswalker, and eureka moments), I always try to keep at least two copies of Avalanche Caller in it. They don’t get wiped by the Summoner and after the Summoner is played you just hit them with a whole bunch of hexproof hasty 4/4s and they usually have to chunk those after they rebuild the board.

100% with you at the end there, and i hope you stick with it and try a different brew since iv been loving it aswell. As you said teachings is a must in the sideboard, and in my brew i have no koma's, chariots, eurika moments, dryads, or morkeneinen. Iv been loving the blue 4 cmc inscription, if you can get around to casting it for 8 mana its great value, but its certainly saved my bacon by just casting it for the 4 to bounce 2 creatures. As you said in the podcast its almost impossible to comeback once you start chaining those turn after turn. I replaced the dryad with the 2 mana fetch a basic land and put it on the battlefield as a creature spell, it being a land gets around some removal, and works very with cyclone summoner since it doesnt bounce lands, also isnt too shaby for defence/attacking by being a 2/2 or 3/3 most of the time. My last 2 inclusions are sea gate restoration and field trip. Honestly i feel like field trip is just a better eurika moment, and sea gate is usually just a land drop but it shines in mirrors/control match ups.
@ethanfoery93993 жыл бұрын
I made a summoner deck back when Kaldheim first came out and had pretty good success, but mainly because I think you need other giants on the field to have an explosive turn when you bounce their board. Also with more giants you can run cards like glimps the cosmos to get to what you need faster, and even power up haven to play it from the grave.

Tight new intro. CGB goes corporate! It's funny to the Cyclone this late in the game; I started with him as soon as the xp dropped in giant tribal decks and then control/alrund decks like this one. It's a cool card but should have something like "cannot be countered". I find it's better to run with changelings like the Vandal; you get a good 1/3 blocker, you get the "giant" race and you get some utility with the enchantment removal.

I ran a 31-9 streak using a simic ramp BO1 brew from Sonio last weekend that took me from Diamond 4 to Mythic 93%. It can definitely be T1, but you have to play it right. Keeping slow hands, or hands with nothing to ramp into for an early T5 bang, can be a death sentence.
@krimhorn3 жыл бұрын
I've played with this basic shell and it's big weakness (aside from Party, creature types matter) is that it doesn't actually deal with a board. Sure, you'll occasionally get to block something with the catillac or trade for something small but with mono-white and green's super, and relatively respectively, cheap go-wide strategy you're not really tempoing them that much with your 7/7 for 7. On top of that they get you low quickly enough that they don't need to refill their board to the point they were at in order to kill you. So you end up hoping for Summoner into Summoner into taking turns to win and the deck's ability to consistently do that is much worse than dragon's ability to do so. It doesn't help that you actually have things you want to be doing on every turn before 7 so if you have time to be Foretelling Epiphany you're probably on a bad line for the deck in the first place.

This is in all likelihood really not optimal, but I've had some fun playing Old Gnawbone in this type of deck. Nothing says "Ramp" like slamming the opponent for 10+ damage in a turn and then having bullshit that can actually capitalize on all of that Treasure on the spot (Like Gretchen Titchwillow, or hell, throw an Ochre Jelly in there). Although by the point you're slamming them for 10+, it's likely already over, but still fun.

I'm with CGB on not feeling it with this deck. It was probably better during early 2022 Standard because people didn't really know what worked, but now there are just too many decks that give absolutely no shits about the pseudo-wipe. People running White or the Black "treasure pack" can replay their hand without any trouble, Green barely ever lets you get to the point of summoning a giant, Party survives the "wipe", Giants has better threats and also ignores the "wipe". The best matchup I can think of is Rakdos/Mardu because it takes out the Avatar token, but even then, it's not as if they'd have any trouble re-establishing a board of creatures they don't mind dying.
@danielquest86443 жыл бұрын
CGB I have played quite a bit of B/G in the 2022 format…. My list is so much different! I found Divide by Zero to be too slow, I have 3 unsummon. So in my list you slam the cultivator, AND unsummon the play. Slamming that cultivator is VERY important to play the deck right…. You just need to play Koma ASAP in most matches. Also, this list really runs out of gas! Cards like god of the voyage can help…. But ultimately the deck is really about slamming a bomb early, making them have answers to that bomb and then slamming another bomb when recourses are depleted. Chariot, cultivator, ranger class and other cards like that put pressure down fast and cause them to have answers…. I even play the 5/5 dragon. Giving you the opening for the bomb. It should be aggressively played…. Because this color combination doesn’t have any real answers! Divide by zero is not an answer…. It’s a delaying tactic….. same thing for into the roil. So you need to be doing something active every turn to build pressure and ramp AND delay them…. Then bomb, concede

Maybe blasphemy, but I've found Epiphany underwhelming in this deck unless I get lucky to chain them. The average draw in this deck is pretty bad because it's a ramp deck and it doesn't do a good job of sticking a threat pre-epiphany. Cutting them made my lists so much better. I also think Druid Class is highly underrated in this strategy. Druid Class makes the game against mono white so much easier with the lifegain and the land threat is a very real game ender that doesn't get bounced by Giant. Reclaim the Wastes is the glue that makes Druid Class a much more consistent ramp piece.
