That is how theatre works and always has worked. It is because ultimately you’re buying the tickets to see the show, not a specific actor like a concert, the show doesn’t change, it’s just luck if they’re on. It is always made known that there is no guarantee on a specific cast member being on, because in the end you’re going to see the same show with the same songs and the same storyline, no matter the cast, it wouldn’t be fair on all the other actors if people constantly swapped their tickets just because someone isn’t on. It’s why they have alternates, because people get sick, it’s hard doing 8 shows a week, Casey has been struggling a bit recently, but she’s getting back into it, she does as many shows as she can, she does not lightly take a day off. If you want to see her specifically then you’ll have to book again.

I do agree for the most part. I see musicals all the time and often with the alternates. And a lot of the time they are my favourite performer. I think if it’s about “the show” and not the performer then it should be advertised that way. Sell the show, not the lead cast. I understand it helps with ticket sales (especially with the cost of living). I feel for Casey not being well, like for any performer it would suck not being able to get out there. I already have tix again in Melbourne. Thanks for watching.

I reakon if there is a "star" being promoted for the show, then perhaps the option to change dates would be good. I've always gone for the show so it's not ever been an issue for me. You did such a good job filming this video (and have such good co-hosts :-)). I love the Capitol Theatre - probably me fav in Sydney. Was not expecting the colourful nun outfits at the end. Love how you can now film a little bit at the end of shows these days. Good free publicity. I now wish I'd gotten to see the show.

Absolutely! I enjoyed the show. I’m seeing it next week again in Melbourne (my original ticket purchase) so let’s see if we get Casey. I have a feeling we won’t as we are seeing it on a Sunday. Travel down to Melbourne to see it 😉 hehe!

@@thegvbproject I think if they know you’re going to be seeing an alternate they should contact you and offer a change of day as they did for you on Broadway. I personally would be very disappointed to have an alternate as I rarely go to shows because they’re so expensive and expect the lead actors to be performing.

@@j.a.menzies8392 - Agree. I don’t really have a problem with it when the show isn’t advertised around a particular person, but when it is, I think there needs to be more transparency and options.

I went to see Chicago with Tina Arena and Toby Allen because I LOVE THEM, they were both sick, I asked for a refund, they said..no you aren’t seeing the Tina Arena show, you’re seeing Chicago, they wouldn’t budge but the under studies were good.

Yeah, it’s annoying! I really think if they’re going to use “names” to sell the show, there has to be some compensation.

nope you are not entitled for a refund! It’s not Casey Donovan in sister act it’s just sister act staring xyz. The difference for Sweeney and why they have to offer you the refund is because their names are the sign outside the theatre not just posters scattered around the theatre. Also the term understudy is being phased out as it does refer to the insanely talented cover being below them in a way. Covers is the term that’s being a lot more commonly used! I think covers make theatre happen plus they are working so much harder than the lead with knowing an ensemble track plus having the ability to jump into the lead whenever they need too. Casey has talked about how demanding the role is and I think that’s something really important to mention. Vocal fatigue in these massive musical theatre roles does exist! And Casey does have tons of commitments outside working on sister act which is why she out more than most !

@arielgeorgia7586 - i see a lot of musicals each year (last year was 50+) and I love and appreciate everyone - especially covers, swings etc. they’re amazing! The topic of refund or changes I think is a valid conversation when all the promotion and advertising initially centred around one (or two) people. Even online, the adverts were “See Casey” etc. And a lot of people bought tickets to see her because of it. If we look at Tina the Musical that’s on right now, no one from the public could tell you who is playing Tina. Nor do I think they would even know if a cover or alternate were on. I think that’s where the differences are. Shows are very expensive to see so I think advertising and promotion needs to be a bit wiser. Sister Act is a well known movie, it could’ve sold itself. All the performers in these shows are amazingly talented, it’s not about that. Casey is a very well known and loved performer. I can see why people would be upset. I think if/when it is known that a major lead isn’t performing - it should be clear on the ticketing website that such person is not performing that night. The cover was amazing (as always).Thank for watching.

@@doonabetty1999 - 😂😂 Totally! I’m starting to think she’s not on as much as we are led to believe. All the advertising doesn’t talk about Cassy as much as they used to. Still shows her picture though.

Hi This happened to us as well, it was annoying, as I was looking forward to seeing her. I thought it was also bad taste that the theatre did not inform us before the show started of the change so could have the option to switch. I believe it would have been nice to know who the understudy is in the book.

@@Ren-v7n Yes. I do think if the lead is someone they are promoting the show with, there should be an option to change days. When it comes to understudies (in the true sense, they are not necessarily listed in the program as there could be 2 or 3 cast members who play the role on different days. Thanks for watching 🙏
