My heart is warming for how much people actually is engaging with this game nowdays and make some of the most recognizable concepts of other franchises like Yakuza, Batman Arkham and (Obviously) GTA, to make the most fun of it and at the same time making and inmersive and intriging setting of Honk Kong with no hesitation to reach over the top action and wacky culture references. If not a masterpiece, is truly something special and it deserves morr recognition and maybe a sequel that fully exploits it strenghts

Sleeping Dogs, one of my favorite games. I remember buying this game about a week after it came out. It came to my attention because of its story resembling that of a mix of Hong Kong action films and The Departed.

This is one of those games I’ve owned and had sitting in my steam library for years and just never bothered to play for more than 20 minutes. I finally gave it a proper chance just last year and was blown away. Definitely a game of its time, when the point of making a game was to provide a fun and engaging experience for your players instead of making infinite money.

I liked this game a lot I’d say it’s a 8/10 HOWEVER most of the police missions either dragged or were boring as ever, I would forget Shen was a cop pretty regularly. I think it would have been better if they either focused more on the undercover aspect, or drop it entirely and have it entirely be about being a Triad

I picked up and played Sleeping Dogs on Steam before I finally tried GTAV. It blew me away how disappointing GTA was after the hype around it and the expectations I got from "the Chinese knockoff". If they made a sequel to a comparable standard as RDR2 it would be an easy day 1 purchase from me.

@@devilishfrost4795 My guy, Sleeping Dogs originally released on PS3 & was then remastered for PS4. So a 2nd remaster on PS5 would be redundant & unnecessary. Why remaster a game that was already remastered in the 1st place? If the game isnt available on PS5, then I would argue that the PS4 remaster should be PORTED to PS5. A PORT I would definitely agree on, but not a 2nd remaster. A remaster of another remaster doesn't make sense at all. At that point, I would rather see an all new sequel (Sleeping Dogs 2) with next generation visuals, it would be a much better use of the developers time & resources.......

Don't talk softly about those jerks in Square Enix. Not only they cancelled Sleeping Dogs 2 which was in development but they did same thing with Final Fantasy XV and they cancelled half of the upcoming DLCs which could have affected the game's ending and instead they put the DLCs they cancelled in some dumb novel. I enjoyed both Final Fantasy XV and Sleeping Dogs to the point that I Platinumed them both and it's kinda sad that Square Enix cancelled their sequel or DLC or whatever.

I bought it super cheap, but yeah it’s quality. Would love a sequel. Also apparently it was supposed to be an entry in the true crime series

The only thing it would get a ding for is the gunplay but it's such a minor aspect of the whole game. You could argue the driving is a little stiff but it's definitely serviceable especially for it's time.

@@TheeCambion I agree, but I tend to like any game that has a good story, and enjoy the nuances of the game play. The cars are Ok in sleeping dogs, the map is limited, and very well optimized. Past some buildings there is just blank space, most don't have rooftops either. But I loved the environmental combat, story, brutality, and the shifting loyalties within Wei's mind.

I remember this game fondly. I have to admit I never finished it because other games took up the majority of my time atm. The world-building, the voice-acting, the story... it was all top notch. I remember watching a short documentary about how the dev team was hell-bent on doing their due dilligence on HK culture and triad culture, and went to HK and totally immersed themselves. They read books and old newspaper articles, convinced a retired detective to show them some declassified case files, and even got in touch with some shady folks who hooked them up with a couple of retired triad guys who were willing to be interviewed. And all this effort by the dev team definitely shows.

pausing the video at the start before i even watch the video. its considered underrated is because many at the time clowned on the game for having clunky drive controls, wanna-be-gta-clone and the fight mechanics were basic compared to other games and the gun play was considered retarded compared to other shooters. but you are right, those of us who disregarded those sentiment fondly remember this game for various reasons. loved the soundtrack, the story and the chibi united front community car was a free update along with the rey mysterio jr mask was/is amazebawls. sigh. i cant find that united front chibi car though in the ecbok definitive edition to save muh life.

I'm going back and replay the game again as I need that very achievement so I'll be going back tomorrow the sequel was planned but this game didn't sell enough to warrant a sequel because of sales United front was desolved not long after poor sales of sleeping dogs United front also made the prequel series true crimes of LA and the sequel sleeping dogs was originally supposed to be a true crimes sequel called true crimes Hong Kong but eventually sleeping dogs was set as a new entry alternative to GTA and set far away and not associated with the true crimes series sales for the game was poor so a sequel was cancelled

If I remember Sleeping Dogs is sort of the bastard third entry in the True Crime series. There was LA and NY and Hong Kong was going to be the 3rd entry but the series died and HOng Kong was reworked into Sleeping Dogs
