It’s great that some one is making new type 2 tapes, I hope they start selling them in Europe soon. 🤞🏻

I do think tape is making a comeback. I don’t know if it will as big a comeback as vinyl, but it’s a good sign that at least one company is making tape. Others will follow if the demand is high enough.

They are the only company still making magnetic tape in the country. They bought up all the old machines and have been trying to ramp up production to meet demand for a few years now.

When they first went live with Type ll tape back in September or October, I ordered a box of 100 tapes made in black shells as well as a few boxes of these. I checked their site almost everyday all this year and last waiting for their type ll and it sounds fantastic!

I was stoked to see your vid, but just checked out the website and while a box of 10 is $40.70, their cheapest option ground shipping I'm being quoted on the website is $23.60 (I'm in Oregon) which brings the total to $64.30 for 10 tapes. I'll have to call when they're open to check if that's correct, but if so, that's definitely expensive for 10 tapes.

They’re not super cheap, but compared to what tapes go for on eBay, they’re much less. 20 tapes lasts me a year, so $65 a year is less than the cheapest tape emulation plug-in that sounds nothing like tape.

@@4Ever4Track Yeah, agree that it's still cheaper than most eBay listings. I'll probably order some today. I've still got my old Tascam 464 that I bought back in the early 90's & used a TON back in the day. I kept it in great condition, still have the OG box, styrofoam, manual, etc... I've been eager to get back to using it. Watched a bunch of your vids last night, so thanks for the inspiration to start using the 4-track again!

@@brandyarzillo I also cut my teeth on 4 tracks and I’m just so glad they are still around. Something happens even with 1/8” tape that just doesn’t happen in a computer.

40$ ouch... i still have a box of tdk from the 2000....but my portastudio stop working and i bought a model 24. Plugins give me my tape feel
@4Ever4Track3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there is plenty of hardware and software to get a tape effect. My goal is to work without a computer, so that’s why I use tape.

@@4Ever4Track i love dawless for simple stuff. I use my model 24 but i need the computer for my orchestration. But i love your vid keep them coming.

They sent me a sample tape a few weeks ago and I was kinda blown away with the sound quality in my Sansui WS-X1. Not sure I’ve heard many NOS type ii’s with high frequencies that strong. I definitely recommend getting some. What are your thoughts on the sound quality?

Nope, at least not in the USA. The materials required for the oxide are banned.

Not sure where you got that, but they are in fact making new magnetic tape every day.

@@4Ever4Track New tape is being made, but none of it is Type II chrome or Type IV metal.
@4Ever4Track3 жыл бұрын
@@LegendaryRadioJock type II tape refers to the bias. Tape hasn’t had chrome in it for a long time, (edit) - and I’m just here to make music and share ideas and setups, not to argue about tape and details.
@LegendaryRadioJock3 жыл бұрын
@@4Ever4Track I'm not here to argue, I am responding to the title of your video which is, "Is someone making new, Type II, High Bias Cassette Tape in 2021???" The answer is no, as per my original post.
@frequincyrecording42863 жыл бұрын
It’s not chrome oxide type ll, but it’s Cobalt oxide. So it is Type ll, high bias tape as the video title states. Per National Audio Company: Cobalt oxide combines outstanding output and low distortion providing unmatched musical clarity. This high bias tape delivers up to 4db more output than earlier Type II tapes without saturation or distortion. Specification is for +2 db over biasing at 6.3 kHz. 20 db below reference level. Record Equalization - For optimum performance, record equalization should be set after biasing as the oxide in this tape responds somewhat differently due to its high performance characteristics.
