I appreciate very much the integrity of both reviews, man, and I very much hope it won't end up biting you back in the future (as in, no further chance of sponsorships). I overall agree with you (both on the general opinion on the DLCs value and/or Atlus' "standard" DLC practices, including the surprise to the somewhat disproportionate reaction against it, at least if we compare it to previous DLC packages that were available). But also, I can't help but feel sad and a bit anxious in a way at seeing a lot/most people skipping/postponing the game's purchase. And the reason for that is simple: I fear that Atlus won't take the low number with constructive criticism, thinking about their marketing and (some) bad design choices, but instead they will think something the likes of _"the game didn't sell because people didn't find a female main lead appealing, back to silent male protagonists it is"._ Being honest here: I do like silent protagonists, never had much problem with them, really. But I also don't necessarily mind protagonists who have their own personalities. And, as someone who actually DIDN'T LIKE AT ALL Ringo's design back when she was announced... I nibbled enough of the game to say that her quips and attitude have grown on me. As such, I just hope Atlus gives a chance to any/both of these traits (female lead and/or talking protag) to shine further in future games.

@heroofkokoto47072 жыл бұрын
@@omensoffate I never wrote anything like that, y'know, and you really shouldn't misinterpret my words negatively for the sake of being a contrarian. I simply stated that I hope the review "wouldn't bite his back"; as in, Atlus refusing to give other codes for sponsorship in the future, due to "bad publicity" (saw it happen to other content creators in the past, with other sponsors). Never said anything about accommodating them though. If I didn't care about the review in the first place, I wouldn't have written a thing. I do care about Atlus giving him a code, BECAUSE I care about seeing more genuine reviews like these. Remember that we got the review in the first place BECAUSE of Atlus gifting a code. Sadly, while a virtue, honestly is not always rewarded, and I pray Atlus' marketing dep. proves itself forward-thinking enough, understanding that even a dissonant (yet objective) voice can have its benefits.

SMT V was the last straw for me, especially when I already found its story lacklustre compared to other mainline games, so to see Soul Hackers 2 fail at everything it does AND have worse DLC practices? Pffft, no thanks. On the plus side, Xenoblade 3 is a masterpiece. Honestly from what I could see the DLC from Atlus in general seems to be hella mid. SMTV only had the Demi fiend fight and like, 3 or 4 new demons to fight and use. P5 and P5R was just "Hey have these Broken DLC personas plus outfits with music probably" which is optional but still underwhelming. It's cool but the DLC feels so bland and not even worth it once you buy it. SMT4 and 4A was decent enough but then the ball was not just dropped, but volleyball spiked once PQ and PQ2 came along where you just get some personas and extra music tracks.

The Lost Numbers? Oh, like Xenoblade 3! Man, seeing how not-worth-it this whole game is, Day 1 DLC and all, makes me so happy Xenoblade 3 is as incredible as it is. It's basically the anti-Soul Hackers 2. - Fun gameplay with depth surpassing any other game in its franchise. - A fantastic story, characters who are actual good characters, not just clique archetypes (unlike XB2). - Some of the best side-content I've experienced in a game, taking stories that would've bloated the main story and giving them room to breathe in their own space while maintaining their relevance (unlike XB2's disconnected, disjointed Blade quests). - DLC that STARTED development AFTER the base game was already finished and being prepped for worldwide release (despite its alarming reveal a month before the game's launch) Xenoblade 3 carries 2022 for me, softening the blow that is Soul Hackers 2's disappointment. Atlus seriously need to take notes from Monolith Soft right now (which they kind of did with SMT V's world design). But anyway, if anyone's looking for Megami Tensei alternatives till Atlus get their shit together, I recommend The Lost Child and Undernauts. The former has demon-collecting mechanics and an intimate environment reminiscent of the first Soul Hackers, while the latter is a dungeon-crawler with a dark, oppressive atmosphere like older SMT games. Feel free to recommend any other alternatives I've missed out. I've heard Digimon Survive is a pretty good time if you don't mind visual novel segments.

OG Soul Hackers, while incredibly dated, was enjoyable on the 3DS. Not a fan of the neon aesthetic. Looks like a mix of Persona 5 and Astral Chain, and while both games are awesome on their own, it just looks bland here. eh for me it kinda is i love anything overpowered and ive got no issues paying for it and those bitching "oh there locking fan favorites behind a paywall" i couldnt give a crap about any of these demons outside nemissa and honestly i wouldnt mind paying 20 or 30 bucks for a pack of just my two favorites (alice and beelzebub) alone if it meant i got early access to them lol hell i wouldnt mind giving them another 60 bucks just to add those two to soul hackers 2
