The joke is on you man, you follow you programming of "significance" while the whole world is a meaningless slaughter and a joke. You are a perfect slave with his mind set on goals others invent. Do your job then and receive your "eternal significance". I don't mind it. JUST KEEP THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY RESOURCES.

The better question is, "Can we afford to not invest in space travel?". 3:50 Yep. Also, we would become extinct relatively quickly if we never expanded. Exponential growth on a finite surface area, with limited resources, does not equate a productive or lasting society. Not to mention what happens if an asteroid strike or other astronomical danger brings itself to light. All our eggs on in one basket, and since we have no space program we wouldn't be able to defend ourselves, so we would be screwed.
@theultimatereductionist75927 жыл бұрын
Exactly why we must cut out the exponential growth on this planet, mandate population reduction, outlaw the meat industry & breeding whole animals for meat, invest MASSIVELY into biocultured meat, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and green energy, and live SUSTAINABLY on this planet for a few thousand years before we prove ourselves ready to go elsewhere.
@yahyah14533 жыл бұрын
Exactly, we got to find other basket and that was thorough space exploration!! Waiting for the disaster and an impending doom to happen won't do us any good, us human will die like the dinosaur wipe out of surface of the planet. The only remnants and legacy are the trashed that we left behind under the ocean (´;ω;`)

GPS was driven by military interests not interest in space travel. As was quite a lot of the tech we now enjoy. We would have it with or without the manned space program. Also this is no longer the 60's many of our advancements now come from research right here on the ground. I love all things space and do not want to see our foray into it end. But lets be honest we are F'ing up the Earth at a greater rate then it can repair itself and what's the primary goal? To enable us to acquire resources that we are running out of here. Whether it be material resources or simply space to accommodate all the future generations to come. We need to place more importance on saving what we have otherwise we are simply going to find another place to F-up.

Salomon P The Apollo missions would suggest otherwise. The wealth of the Main Belt alone lies in the quadrillions of dollars. What more is needed?
@HerrBaton9 жыл бұрын
Grant Lillie slave labour to build the vehicles and extract it. The costs of travel and preparations exceed the value of those - supposed - resources. The time we get there this civilisation will already reach oblivion. You are hipnotised by NASA's propaganda or simply another employed by the government mafia.
@grantlillie20969 жыл бұрын
Salomon P People tend to go where there is economic opportunity. As the Americans settled the western frontier, so will man settle space. Willingness to go to other parts of the system would mean a large mining labor force. It would be a mistake to assume these resources would be transported back to Earth, however. That is counter to the goal of humanity becoming a multi-planetary species, so the wealth would instead remain on distant worlds to draw settlers from all corners of ours. The cost of a manned colonization mission to the Moon, for example, would cost tens of billions of dollars. The benefit, however, would be access to precious metals, hydrogen-3, and water ice- all of which we can use for further missions.

Just a bit of perspective for those on the U.S. side of the pond.The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) estimated that 27% of the Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) paid out in FY2014 were improper payments. Those "improper payments" amounted to US$17,700,000,000 ($17.7 BILLION).[SOURCE: accountingtoday.com: "Improper EITC Payments Totaled $17.7 Billion in FY2014] Americans spent an estimated US$14,310,000,000 ($14.31 BILLION) associated with the annual Super Bowl football game.[SOURCE: usnews.com: "6 Numbers to Know for Super Bowl Sunday"]The entire National Aerospace and Space Administration (NASA) budget is $18,010,000,000 ($18 BILLION).[SOURCE: spaceflightnow.com: "NASA gets budget hike in spending bill passed by Congress'] In other words, the U.S. spends nearly as much on improper tax credits as it does on the entire NASA budget.

Space travel takes a massive amount of energy and that takes a lot of money. Space travel will only be for the rich 1% or even less and will NEVER be available for YOU. Many say that all modern inventions are a result as spinoffs from space travel. I don't believe that is the only way it could have happened. The reality was: space exploration was funded only to create a platform for war. We managed to beat swords into plowshares but why can't we just do great things just because it is a great benefit to mankind? I don't mind putting communication satellites into space but mankind does not need to travel there. There is plenty we can do here on earth.
