I was raised in charismatic churches my whole childhood, and one thing that they always drilled into me was that if you didnt show the sign of speaking in tounges then you didnt have the Holy Spirit and were not saved. Another thing they always emphasized was a private prayer language so that the devil wouldn't be able to understand what you were praying. Neither of those teachings ever sat right with me. When I became an adult and started studying on my own I came to reject almost all of the teaching I had sat under my whole life. All that time, i was scared that i wasn't saved, or that I didn't have the Holy Spirit. Now I'm free of all the fear, because I have the truth. God bless

kristy3380; well you didn't get the truth from THIS guy. He believes that you can lose your salvation. He's a lying fraud. He does NOT know what tongues were about. I'm happy to hear that you got out of that stuff. Your fear came from liars. This is what they tell you, to trap you into their ideas of religion AND NOT GOD. I've taught for 36 years with the original languages and can answer any questions you may have. Tongues do not exist. Paul says that they would CEASE and they did.....2000 years ago. These people twist scripture unto their own destruction. Paul clearly says that "NOT ALL SPEAK IN TONGUES". Therefore how can anyone say that you have to speak in tongues to show that you have received the spirit? TOTAL HERESY. I can teach you how to protect yourself from false teachers and teachings. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with. Peace

When someone makes speaking in tongues a salvation issue, they are in essence denying the Gospel by replacing it with "another gospel." Therin lies the danger of placing your faith in something other than Jesus Christ. I am glad that you were not sucked into a false gospel.

I was caught up in the charismatic church before. Then I stopped believing what the person behind the pulpit was saying and started investigating God's word for myself. I took their most quoted verses and look them up for myself and realize the majority of them are taken out of context. So thankful God opened my eyes to the truth.

Me too, but what we learned was because the Spirit of God is working within us and e then must learn how to share this teaching with others. I found teaching the scripture in context lovingly to my leaders and others in the church has awakened them to leave Pentecostalism for a more biblical view and it has been by God's grace a miracle. Yes exactly. Every single sermon is taken out of context. They will build entire sermons around one little passage, taken out of context. What really kills me is when someone writes an entire book around one passage that was taken out of context. Like the one about God having a brighter future for ALL of us. That passage was specifically for a group of Hebrews. Not meant for every living soul on the planet today. But yet millions by into it every week when their pastor decides to present that as the sermon. Or if they buy the book, you know the one. I’m not saying God doesn’t want a bright future for all of us but the thing is it’s about reaping what you sow. And that passage was not directed toward modern man.

GOD is not the author of confusion. He wouldn’t go against His own Word that He spoke through His disciples. Why do I say this? “And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, he said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve.” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭19‬:‭1‬-‭7‬ ‭ This person in this video, yes they spoke gibberish. ButPaul nor the ones he witnessed to here did. Paul also said this, “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14‬:‭2‬ ‭ It is also written, “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues…” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭10‬:‭44‬-‭46‬

1. There are two settings for speaking in tongues… private and public. 2. Paul desired that all the church of Corinth speak in tongues. He later asserted he spoke in tongues more than all of them. 2b. However he preferred to prophesy or interprete when in am assembly to benefit others. 3. Being filled with the Holy Sprit is different from receiving the Holy Sprit when getting saved. However they sometimes occur simultaneously. 4. Speaking in tongues is praying to God from one’s sprit bypassing the understanding. 4. It is of no benefit to an assembly unless recognised by an unbeliever or the speaker or someone else interpretes what was said. 5. The gifts of the Spirit are mainly to function in an assembly for the benefit of others and not specifically for the vessel God’s using. 6. By not speaking in tongues you’re robbing yourself and potentially others of the blessings of God. 7. Manifestation of the Holy Sprit have been imitated and corrupted throughout church history.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES! Now days It’s quite normal for people to speak in another language, which is why it came as a surprise in Acts 2:6-8, they heard unlearned foreigners speaking their own language. Acts 2:6-8 (NKJV) [6] And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. [7] Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? [8] “And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? This confirms what Paul says to the Corinthians when he says. . . 1 Corinthians 14:21-22 (NKJV) [21] In the law it is written: “With men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people; And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me,” says the Lord. [22] Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe. Speaking in tongues is a gift from God but not many people realise there are two types of tongues. One is a sign that comes when you believe in Christ, the other is gift that not everyone will have. Jesus said in Mark 16:17 (KJV) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; The tongues that Jesus was talking about in Mark 16:17 are the ones mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. Also in . . 1 Corinthians 14:14 (NKJV) For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. Earlier I mentioned there was a second kind of tongue. These are the tongues most people are more likely to see as a miracle when spoken in front of someone you know. 1 Corinthians 12:28 (KJV) And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. The tongues spoken of above are the ones mentioned in Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. . . Acts 2:6-8 (NKJV) And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? “And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Although, not every believer will speaks in these tongues as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? Both these scriptures in Mark and Corinthians are confirmed in 1 Corinthians 13:1 where it says, Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal

@@duderu4real94 Good review, thanks. What I don't understand and have never been able to get a straight answer to is that it seems to me that when it talks of speaking of tongues it just means that you're speaking in another, already existing language. Where I get lost is when people start babbling and them try to tell me they're speaking some special tongue that no one can understand. I can get behind the former, as the Holy Spirit can certain (and has) given the gift of other languages to disciples. The latter though, entirely mystifies me, and I don't see any scriptural basis for it. Whenever I ask someone about it, its like they can't distinguish between the two, and they act like I'm denying Acts 2:6-8, which I'm not. I'm speaking specifically of the babble (at least to me as I hear it) that people claim is some secret language of the angels. Can you give me your thoughts on it?

@@AHappyBachelor Greetings in the name of Jesus bro I don’t like to give my own opinion but rather let scripture speak. Men and Angels are two different beings, one is Spirit, soul and body and the other is just a spirit (but can take the form of a man) Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:1 [1] Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels. . . The Greek word for men used was anthrōpos which simply means Human. And the Greek for angel is aggelos which means messenger/angel Also the Greek word for tongues is glossa which means languages. So Paul was saying though he speaks the language of humans and angels. So we have clear evidence that there are two types of tongues. Now in all the churches I have visited I have mainly heard the language of angels, why because Mark 16:17 says and these signs shall follow those who believe. . . They shall speak with new tongues not speak in a different language. So the new tongues is something completely new and that is tongues of angels. Hope this helps 🙏🏾

It doesn’t bother me that believers speak in tongues, it does however bother me when they say that you must speak in tongues to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. From scripture, I come to the same conclusions as you. I have family and friends who are truly God fearing people that do speak in tongues and it’s right to them so I won’t place a stumbling block in front of them as long as their fruits are good.

My mother grew up Catholic, then Baptist, then nondenominational- no teachings on tongues. One night she was praying, anguished and broken over me, her very lost daughter. And in that moment, God gifted her and she started praying in tongues. And here I am, saved and being sanctified. I agree with most points you made regarding scripture, except 1 Corinthians 14:2. It seems you're trying very hard to explain away what seems plainly written. *For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.* I speak in tongues, never publicly. It just comes out sometimes when I'm praying. Not uncontrolled, because I can stop it. It's good, because sometimes I just cant find the words. David Wilkerson believed in tongues. And if ever there was a modern preacher beyond reproach, he'd be one of them. But yes, there is also a counterfeit. And it brings shame to the church. I've struggled with it and prayed and asked God if it wasn't from him, to take it away. But it still comes out in my prayer time.

I have watched a lot of your videos and normally I agree with much of what you say. I don’t here however. I am 55 years old. I was saved when I was 8 and baptized in the Holy Ghost at age 11. From the time between ages 8-11, I did not speak or pray in tongues one single time. I was in a prayer meeting in my parent’s home. My dad had been Baptist. He didn’t even believe in tongues, but the Lord filled him. My mom was Methodist. At age 21 in her bedroom, she asked God to fill her with the spirit and she started speaking in tongues. When my dad laid hands on me and prayed for me to receive, just like Paul did in Acts, I immediately started speaking in tongues. I think you are confusing two different things brother. I’ve seen as many as 40-50 people get baptized in the Holy Ghost all at once and start speaking in tongues . I’ve seen little kids who know nothing about spiritual things fall out under the power of God and get up from the floor speaking in tongues. There is a saying that a man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with only an argument. I do know this as well. I’ve been in churches that did not believe or teach about the baptism of the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues or praying tongues, and they were completely void of the power of God. They were dead, no joy, no testimonies of healing, no testimonies in miraculous deliverance from drugs, alcohol, or anything of the like. Then I’ve been in the churches where they do teach, speaking in tongues, praying in tongues, etc. and there are too many testimonies of miraculous healings, deliverances, etc. to discount what is obviously the truth. I think you have missed it here my friend. Once again, agree with much of what I hear you say. But not here.

I think he got in the enemies trap, because when you in daubt and Focus on certain aspekts you're blind fir obvious! In Mark 16:17 we read: they will speak in or with new tongues, not known tongues! All believers! That Paul preached in tongues that came over him in to proclaim the gospel in nonsense because everywere he went people could anderstand him, because the world language at that time was greek! And why would a person need to speak to God in an unknown tongue, when he can speak to God in a known tongue? And why would God want his church to speak in unknown tongues, when everyone at the church speaks the same language? Paul said he thanked God that he spoke in tongues more than the Corinthian church, which was a lot! The Bible also said that speaking in tongues builds you up spiritually. Why would you not want to emulate the Apostle Paul or build yourself up spiritually in this unique way? I’m convinced that speaking in tongues must be very powerful because it is one of the gifts that is attacked the most, even by Christians. If Satan can get Christians to doubt it and to teach other Christians not to engage in a legitimate gift of the Holy Spirit, it must really be valuable.

I consider that most tongue speakers sincerely believe that their tongue-speaking is inspired of the Holy Spirit. However is that really the case? In 1 Corintians 14:37, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Paul states that the things he is writing are commandments of the Lord. So the Lord commands us to not speak in tongues in the assembly unless an interpretation is given. That command is clear. Unfortunately, this is not what we observe in most churches with tongue-speaking members. If the Spirit commands against tongue-speaking without interpretation, then these tongues cannot be inspired by the same Spirit. So most probably this is a purely carnal phenomenon.

PLEASE hear what YEHOSHUA HAMASHIACH/JESUS CHRIST/ THE LORD GOD is saying about this matter . THE LORD GOD said, Caleb the maker of this video, is an HERETIC and all that are in agreement with him! THE LORD GOD says to those who have not been Born Again. HE said in John 3:3 except a man be BORN AGAIN of water and of The Spirit, he can NOT ‘ see ‘ The Kingdom of GOD . Now that word ( see) in Hebrew is (ראה) and it means to perceive, to understand. Therefore no one can Truly understand What was written to The Saints , Without being BORN AGAIN The LORD GOD SAYS HE has given you directions to follow and until you Repent and get BORN AGAIN of water in His Name, Yehoshua HaMashiach/Jesus and receive the infilling of His Spirit, The Holy Ghost , evidenced by speaking in tongues, you will NOT be able to UNDERSTAND! Those are the WORDS of Yehoshua HaMashiach/JESUS CHRIST/ THE LORD GOD The LORD GOD says be not hearers of His Words only, but be DOERS of what HE is saying. HE says as He said to Nicodemus, HE says to you MARVEL NOT THAT I SAID TO YOU THAT YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN! He says satan is deceiving you , if you continue on your path, you will NOT be able to enter into THE KINGDOM OF GOD! To The BORN AGAIN according to Acts 2:38 and John 3:5. THE LORD GOD says what HE said to HIS first disciples as it is written in Matthew 10: 14-16 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. THUS THE LORD GOD says as it is written : “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.” Matthew 7:6 THE LORD GOD says LEAVE THIS PAGE Fellow heirs of The Kingdom of GOD! Go forth and CONTINUE To Preach The Gospel of The Kingdom for the time is at hand! MY sheep hear MY Voice, and I know them, and they follow ME: and I give unto them eternal LIFE; and they shall NEVER perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of MY Hand. Mark 10:26 KEEP YOURSELVES HOLY AND HUMBLE, BEHOLD HIS COMING DRAWS NEAR!

I was raised in a cessationist church. I believed that people that spoke in tongues were mentally ill. This is how I believed until I was 23 yrs old. At 23 I went to a nondenominational Bible study. When we started on the spiritual gifts as related in 1 Corinthians. I was pretty resistant to the whole idea of gifts in the church after the passing of the apostles. One morning as I was doing dishes while alone, I was praying and thinking on the things I had heard and read on the past week. As I prayed all of a sudden a language I had never heard or spoken. Now I cannot say whether or not this is a language that is spoken here on earth, I don't know all languages spoken on earth. All I do know that this language has stayed with me for the past 50 years. I know there are many persons over the years who have berated the spiritual gifts. I have let it go in one ear and out the other for I know what I know. I don't think its necessary for salvation but it is not a vehicle for damnation either.

It's not good to say Jude says one thing when Paul directly says the complete opposite. You're eisegeting aka reading something into the Bible vs exegeting which is bringing forth the author's written intent. If Paul says all don't speak in tongues then Jude clearly does not mean speaking in tongues. It means being led by the Holy Spirit in prayer. The gift of tongues is a gift from The Lord. It’s also a prayer language to pray directly to God & along with ministering in a earthly langue. I Corinthians 14:2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession [a]for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. There is no such prayer language. We pray to God in our native tongue. There would be no reason to use a different language. If everyone could pray in tongues, then everyone could speak in tounges and we know not everyone had that gift. You are so focused on the least of the gifts which has clearly ceased, now that we have the perfect (completed cannon). Tongues were only needed to preach the gospel to other cultures of different languages to get the church started. Like kindling to a fire.

No..It's as if they never read ACTS. If someone spoke in tongues.. no one would ever know. The cloven tongues doesn't mean a mixture. It means that no matter your native language, the person speaking would sound as if they are speaking your native language.. even down to regional accent. So no one would ever know if someone was speaking in tongues. Every person would hear them clear as day. The gibberish they do in many churches now and the "interpreters" is completely fake. @truthalonegirl: You have a lot to learn. It's great that you got out of that type of church, but you haven't gotten their teachings out of your mind yet. Paul said that tongues would CEASE and they did; 2000 years ago. NO ONE has spoken in tongues, especially women. Read Mark 16:20. God's word was confirmed by the apostles through the signs they had. God's word is THE BIBLE. It is finished. There is no such thing as "a word of the Lord". Just in case someone tells you that they have one, you need to show them Mark 16:20. God can not violate his own word. He can not be giving new revelation and adding to his word. Every word that God spoke is in the bible. Therefore anyone believing that the SIGN gifts still exist, is mocking God and calling him a liar. They commit heresy. The bible never says that you can "pray in tongues". You were simply told this and in order for you to be accepted by others, you tried to do it. They will pay for what they did to you. I've been teaching for 37 years and I use the original languages to help people like you. God is not a denomination and neither am I. Again I'm glad to know that you are out of that style of church, but you have got to learn to defend yourself with the bible through knowledge. The SIGN gifts are NOT the gifts for the church. They are different. Paul said that tongues were for a SIGN. Therefore all the gifts in Mark 16:17-20 are SIGN gifts that confirmed God's message through the apostles. The apostles are dead. Therefore there are no more sign gifts. Very simple. But your old false teachers could not even see this. Everything they told you was a lie against scripture. Now you need to learn the truth to protect yourself as well as grow in the grace and Knowledge of our Lord, Rightly dividing the word of God. I hope you take advantage of this opportunity to study as you have never studied before. Happy Reading.

Most Christians start at Acts 2 when they recite the accounts of Pentecost. I think this is a mistake. I believe we need to start in Acts 1 to correctly setup what took place on the day of Pentecost. The subject of the pronouns (they and them) used in Acts 2 refer to Matthais and the eleven apostles in Act 1. Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles. Acts 1:24-26 In other words, on the day of Pentecost, Matthias and the eleven apostles were all in one place. They were the ones empowered to speak in other languages. This was a sign to unbelieving Jews. The apostles were the specific men that Jesus chose to be eyewitness of His death and resurrection. Most of the disciples did not qualify for this apostolic position. Also, according to scripture, it was necessary to pick one disciple to replace Judas, not two or three. Just one. Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. Acts 2:14 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Acts 2:37 If you start reading at Acts 1:1 to the end of Act 2, you should easily see that this account was all about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit ministering through the apostles, not the approximately 120 disciples. Why is this biblical truth important? Because it contradicts the notion that all Christian disciples are suppose to, and should be expected to speak in tongues.

Many are getting the tongues that comes when one first receives the Holy Ghost in Acts , with the gift of tongues in Corinthians. The gift of the Holy Ghost is not the gift of tongues. Everybody can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues as the spirit gives the utterance. Acts 2:4, 10:44-48, 19:1-6. They ALL SPOKE IN TONGUES. Just because everybody doesn't receive it right away, doesn't mean they can't have it or it's not for all believers. You have to OBEY! Acts 5:32. It's for all believers. Acts 2:39. For all who gladly accept and get baptized. Acts 2:41-42. 1 Corinthians was WRITTEN TO THE CHURCH, those who already obeyed Acts 2:38 and were in the church already. Look to see who the letter was written to. Do you have to always speak in a language known to man? 1 Corinthians 14:2. Paul is talking about the GIFTS OF TONGUES ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER GIFTS listed. Notice the gift of the HOLY GHOST IS NOT MENTIONED with all the other gifts, because it's for all believers. Speaking in tongues when one receives the Holy Ghost is one thing, and after, receiving the gift of tongues is another. Everybody doesn't receive the gift of tongues. In other words, to interpret tongues or God using them in church to speak, etc. There are a lot of false tongues out there for sure. You have cited every verse that I’ve struggled with in the past, and completely cleared up all the confusion I’ve had regarding these very verses. And the biggest takeaway for me is when you explained why Paul reported his own experiences with many different tongues. I have been studying Acts again, and right before you revealed the reason, the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to understand.😮 The Lord equipped Paul with the gift of many different tongues so he could preach the Gospel as he traveled through the various regions of languages. Praise the Lord! I truly understand now, for the first time in years! I was like you, speaking in tongues some, but I was always very uncomfortable with it, so I stopped! It’s funny because I watched this video and came to a completely different conclusion. My biggest problem is where in scripture does it say that Paul preached the gospel by speaking in tongues? And why would all of the other benefits listed in scripture not count for anything in this guy’s opinion? Scripture makes it plain what tongues are for and it never mentions preaching the gospel. It says tongues is to build up our faith, it’s a sign to the unbeliever, and it glorifies God. It’s a way of bypassing our mind and praying directly to God with our spirit. If God has given someone this wonderful gift, why would we not honor Him by exercising it? I have to admit to being very confused by this. God bless.

@@sandrad9695 I am not sure whether or not you understand that scriptures MUST be meditated upon. you don't read scriptures like history book and try to make your own conclusion instead through meditation you are sure of having the guidance of the Holy Spirit just as Jesus promised us. Let's look into the gift of tongues. Next time you need to check the old Testament first because it is the foundation for speaking in tongues, but today I will only clear the verses you misinterpreted so as not to mislead believers. Acts 2 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. ⁵ And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. ⁶ Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. There are very strong points you ignored here. 1. men out of every nation under the earth. This wasn't written only to polish the event, it means what it says. All national languages on earth were presented on the day of Pentecost. We know from scriptures there were 120 disciples on that day, now if everyone spoke a known earthly language, wouldn't that be chaos? For example Peter spoke Germany, James French, Jacob Mongolia, Andrew Chinese etc, would there be understanding? Also how many nations were there under the earth? Was it only 120 nations? 2. Every man had them speak in his own language - this solve the problem. Careful reading (meditating) shows that every man HEARD THEM, not every man had someone among them speak his own language, EACH MAN HEARD THEM ALL speak his language. That's what scriptures say, not guess work! Now it's time to ask ourselves, what language did they actually speak, a language that could be clearly understood by all dialects? That must be a heavenly language, the language that heavenly beings use to communicate with humanity regardless of nationality or tribe. This is the utterance given by the Holy Spirit, NOT EARTHLY LANGUAGES. This was done to fulfill these prophecies: Zephaniah 3: 9 "For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language, That they all may call on the name of the Lord, To serve Him with one accord. They were all in ONE ACCORD, then they all received A PURE LANGUAGE. The second prophecy: Psalms 19: 2 Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, That's what happened, their sound went forth through the earth because there were men from every nation under heaven. @FreeinChristForever
@FreeinChristForever 2 жыл бұрын
That doesn’t even make sense. Paul needs to speak the language of heaven more than anyone else? The Bible says, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; … they shall speak with new tongues;” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭16‬:‭17‬ ‭ “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭38‬ ‭ “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues..” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭10‬:‭44‬-‭46‬ ‭ “And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, he said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve.” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭19‬:‭1‬-‭7‬ ‭ When you stand before the Most High what this person said isn’t going to be a factor in where you go. All that’s going to be a factor is that you heard the gospel and if you accepted it and obeyed or rejected it. Only YOU get to decide where you go and where you spend eternity. Life after we leave really is a choose your own adventure. You ever read one of those books? Make the wrong choice and the person winds up dying? That was a representation of this world and what will happen after we die. The choices you make now will be what will decide where YOU spend eternity. It won’t matter what this person said or how “convincing,” they were because YOU have a Bible and can read it for yourself.

Amen. I'm praying/speaking in tongues when I'm closest to the Lord. Paul spoke about it in 1 Cor. 14 concerning "In the church". That infers that there's a tongue "In the home", "In the car", etc. I think where we fail is keeping tongues to a one hour a week gathering. It needs to be taken into our private time. That's where it's exercised and utilized most. Paul did say it's for edification for others and ourselves. If we are the church, then you can't separate yourself from tongues at all, if you can do it. Jesus said in John 4 & 7 He'd give us living water, that would come from within us, and John said Jesus was referring to the Holy Spirit. Ironically 1 cor saying "gifts" was not in the original language, that's why it's in italics. To speak in tongues is to be spiritual. Not of mental ascent/origins. God is spirit, so a spiritual language shouldn't surprise us. And God is big on speaking, so tongues makes sense. "Call", "Ask", "Speak", "Tell"...

If there were only ONE door that the devil could keep you from entering, it would be the door of praying in tongues. Quote: "He hates it second only to salvation and wants to make sure you never go through it" (Dave Roberson) If you begin to study all those 'generals' that God raised up and worked through in the past you will begin to see a very interesting trend ... John G. Lake, Smith Wigglesworth, etc. etc.,.... they ALL prayed in supernatural languages, here is why: Following is part of a transcript of a Richard Eby interview from many years ago... Quote: "It wasn't until six months ago when I was reliving this as I do every day, that I realized that after those first two words in English to get my attention the rest was in a Heavenly language. That night that I realized He was not talking to me in English all that time, I got on my knees and I said 'Jesus reveal to me quickly, why did you talk to me in a Heavenly language'. He said, 'My son, do you not realize that all languages on earth are the result of the curse? I would prefer not to talk to you in a language that has been cursed. I would prefer to talk to my children in a Heavenly language about which there can be no question of it's interpretation. Because anything said in the Heavenly language is all truth.' Now I know what the Heavenly language is all about. It isn't just something to play games with or something to say my denomination has it and yours doesn't. It's when He wants to communicate two way radio in a language, the words of which are uncontroversial. And when He says this and that and yea and nay in the Heavenly language, it doesn't mean maybe or perhaps." (This interview was televised on CBN in 1979 BTW.) There is a differentiation here that is missing. The speaking in tongues in 1 Cor 12 I believe is having a message for others, something God distributes and which certainly not everyone does. But the tongues in 1 Cor 14:2 and 14:14 is the private prayer language. v.2 specifically says NO ONE UNDERSTANDS it, so I don't see how he concludes it's an earthly language. v15 says so what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding. It's voluntary, in my opinion different from the 1 Cor 12 version.

How convenient to ignore Paul's comments in 1Corinthians 14. This same old palaver of cessationists keeps getting trotted out. Paul tells us "forbid NOT to speak in tongues" and here you are doing exactly that. You fail to distinguish between the tongues heard at Pentecost, prophecy in the church, and the gift of tongues for personal prayer and worship, -three totally different situations. "Tongues shall cease " sure it does say that, but unfortunately it doesn't give a date. It also tells us that knowledge will cease, but I guess you think that is on a different date. The controversy surrounding this gift shows us how much the enemy wants to squash this powerful gift. The purpose of this gift IS to edify ourselves, not to "make ourselves feel good" -edify means to build up. Jude verse 20 tells us "But ye beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, PRAYING IN THE HOLY GHOST." I'm reminded of the verse that speaks about how in the last time perilous times will come, when it says men will have a form of Godliness, but DENYING THE POWER THEREOF. Your diatribe is full of "I think this" and "I think that", so really it's just your opinion, not backed up by any personal experiential knowledge, just unwittingly being used by the enemy to suppress something hugely beneficial to the extension of God's kingdom. It's wrong to first form a conclusion and then use your own private interpretation of scripture to support your opinion. If it frightens you, it doesn't mean it's wrong, -don't run away from it, earnestly seek God with an open, unbiased and honest heart and He will reveal the truth to you as long as you are prepared to receive it.

There’s so many different views of this and I battled with this for a long time. But, what I do know is this. In two different occasions, once while at church at a women’s meeting, and another while in my vehicle all by myself while praising God and praying..... Holy Spirit came all over me and I began to speak in tongues. The time by myself in my vehicle it went on for a good hour or more and could have even longer if I didn’t have to be somewhere. It wasn’t the same 10 words over and over like I hear people do.....( which that’s the part I still don’t Quite understand. ) It’s wasn’t me hearing a word in my head and me saying it out loud. It was just something that was overflowing out of me. It was as if I was speaking a whole other language with many of words as I was overcome by Holy Spirit. It’s never happened since. I know that I know that came from God Almighty. I believe where people get confused..... as I do now to this day..... is when people say the same several words day after day. People have tried to explain it to me before but it still never settles in my spirit the right way.

You’re correct, it’s an actual language that flows out of you. It isn’t gibberish or repeating the same words over and over. I think this happens because people in certain denominations are pressured into this and they make up words to fit in. I received this gift during a time of spiritual warfare, no one prayed over me. I learn a lot from this channel, thank you. On this topic however, I think the dismissal of the words 'pray in a tongue' in 1 Corinthians 14:14 as simply being synonymous with praying in the spirit, is a bit of a stretch. And what about the many people who actually pray in tongues? Shall we just dismiss that? Perhaps it's a bit harsh to reflect on tongues as being 'a bunch of nonsense' 😅 Nonetheless, I think we have all seen when prayer in tongues is taken too far in churches and becomes more show than edification. Speaking in Tongues Now days It’s quite normal for people to speak in another language, which is why it came as a surprise in Acts 2:6-8, they heard unlearned foreigners speaking their own language. Acts 2:6-8 [6] And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. [7] Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? [8] “And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? This confirms what Paul says to the Corinthians when he says. . . 1 Corinthians 14:21-22 [21] In the law it is written: “With men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people; And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me,” says the Lord. [22] Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe. Speaking in tongues is a gift from God but not many people realise there are two types of tongues. One is a sign that comes when you believe in Christ, the other is gift that not everyone will receive. Jesus said in Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; The tongues that Jesus was talking about in Mark 16:17 are the ones mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. Also in . . 1 Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. Jude 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, Earlier I mentioned there was a second kind of tongue. These are the tongues most people are more likely to see as a miracle when spoken in front of someone you know. 1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. The tongues spoken of above are the ones mentioned in Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. . . Acts 2:6-8 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Both these scriptures in Mark and Corinthians are confirmed in 1 Corinthians 13:1 where it says, Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels. . . As I mentioned in Mark 16:17 that speaking in a new tongue was a sign to those who believe. If you don’t believe you can speak in a new tongue or do not have a desire for this, it will not manifest. As for the tongues of Angels mentioned in 1 Corinthians 13:1, if you don’t believe are able to speak in this tongue. Mark 16:17 calls it a new tongue. But let’s look at what Paul says. 1 Corinthians 14:5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. First of all Paul wishes that we all spoke in tongues, why is this? Because they are speaking in Gods language and know understands him. 1 Corinthians 14:2 unless there is an interpretation as 1 Corinthians 14:5 However prophesies are spoken in a human language so everyone would benefit from it. But remember, speaking tongues and having an interpreter makes it just as important as prophesies because everyone can understand.

Right from the start you make mistakes, yes plural. You begin with Acts 2 instead of Acts 1. Acts 1:8 says "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” and also Luke 24:49, "And look, I am sending the promise of My Father upon you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high.” Pentecost was not about receiving tongues, but receiving the power of God. Moving along you site Acts 2:4 to be a earthly language based on the people hearing them, but let's look at verses 5 and 6, "Now dwelling in Jerusalem were Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. When this sound occurred, the crowd came together and were confounded, because each man heard them speaking in his own language." There were 120 in that room when the Holy Spirit baptized them, there are more than 120 nations in the known world at that time. In fact in the book of Esther alone, just Persia had 127 nations under it and needed scribes to write the kings commands in their languages. Therefore it must be a miracle of hearing as well as speaking, however, speaking in tongues never was the initial physical evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. In verse 2 we have the sound of a rushing mighty wind. In verse 3 we have "tongues as of fire, being distributed and resting on each of them," and in verse 4 they are all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues AS THE SPIRIT ENABLED THEM. While all this is true, something else happened, something Jesus said would happen in Luke 24:49 and Acts 1:8, they received power from on high to witness. This can be clearly seen in the sermon that Peter gave (Acts 2:14-40). No longer was he spouting off at the mouth like he usually did, or denying he knew Jesus, but this Peter stood boldly proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ even to the point of saying in verse 36, “Therefore, let all the house of Israel assuredly know that God has made this Jesus, whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Since when do you tell those you are preaching to that they killed their own Messiah, but the Holy Spirit was at work in Peter and 3000 turned their lives over to Jesus that day. I believe the Gift of Tongues with the Gift of Interpretation is equivalent to the Gift of Prophecy, and I believe praying in tongues, while not necessary, is something open to every believer. Whether you do or do not speak in tongues has little, if anything, to do with salvation. Getting close to the Giver of gifts will always be of more value than seeking any gift.

A very scholarly work is by Dr Spiros Zodhiates called "Tongues"and "Speaking inTongues and Public Worship" Also Dr John Barnett on his youtube channel DTBM covers in depth why he believes tongues have ceased, pray for discernment in this area, I asked God years ago when I was formerly in the Faith and Pentecostal churches that if it was not from Him to take it from me, I have not prayed in tongues since, at our church we recently had a worship pastor from a pentecostal/faith church come and join us and he said he used to talk in tongues until an event happened that frightened him, the woman worship leader prayed in tongues, and he knew exactly what she was saying as she spoke in Spanish, a language she did not know, and it was a recognizable language/dialect but it was what she was saying that spooked him, and caused him to leave that church, she was saying in Spanish, "It is rubbish, it is rubbish" food for thought perhaps. God Bless everyone, and may God open everyone's eyes to the misuse of tongues in the church today, it is a gift of the Holy Spirit, and was only ever given as He wills, and it is one of the 3 gifts Paul identified in 1 Cor 13 that would cease, stop and pass away.

I believe tongues is both other earthly, human languages (Acts) and speaking in the tongues of men and angels (1 Cor 13). I will continue to pray in tongues (which I do silently) as the Spirit gives utterance. I do believe that we should pray without ceasing (1 Thes 5:17) as is instructed in the Word and this is an acceptable way to do so. I believe it strengthens me for evangelism and the preaching of the Gospel as that is my calling. Keep up the good work and keep renewing your mind with scripture (Rom 12:1-2).

If this gift is nothing more than just a way to preach to those in another language, why would this gift need another gift to interpret it? As for it passing away when Jesus comes back so do all of the gifts including prophecy, interpretation of tongues, knowledge, wisdom.. etc. I'm certainly not implying that it is the tongues of Angels, but simply a spiritual gift, like Healing, or Faith, or Prophecy.

Satan has deceived many Christians by making them to doubt the gift of tongues. And this man that is speaking is speaking of his own belief and not recognizing the word in the spirit. He reads the word in the natural of man's belief and not recognizing the word in the spiritual. Satan knows the power in the gift of tongues.

If tongues was gibberish it'd be the only thing God asks that makes no sense. I've tried asking many people what the benefits are and they get frustrated and attack me or call me an unbeliever. Some things you gotta ask people who claim gibberish is Godly I've heard people say after doing tongues, they felt that their prayers were answered more. If thats true then it means God can be influenced by special words. That is what magic is. Doing a ritual or specialized action to plea or convince spirits to act for you. Why wouldn't God be ok with me just talking? If using different words or sounds helped get God to answer, wouldn't that mean you believe God doesn't know his creation or know the thoughts you have before you have them?. Belief in tongues is magic. Most magic follows God and Solomon's guide(still a pagan practice because of its method) If you had a room full of unbelievers who were interested in God and you spoke in tongues, chances are they'll think you are evil and say "No thanks" No one can give me a reason for doing tongues because its pointless other than maybe feeling 'gifted' or powerful for having magic (words?) to utter. I tried it and I couldn't justify it. I don't need to mumble my way into God's heart, and it's not worth it if it turns people away. If it was a real language, even an angel language with letters and grammar that can be shown as real it would make way more sense

I have heard from so many Pentecostal church members that the evidence of being saved is speaking in tongues. They always use Acts 2 out of context. I have been saved for about going on 3 years now and haven’t spoken in tongues once but I know through evidence of my life and changes that only God could do in me is evidence. I started investigating Gods Word and saw a lot of verses that were taken out of context and taught wrong. I study to show myself approved and pray that I don’t get sucked into doctrines of demons.

The pastor of the Penticostal church warned us not to attend services at the nearby Charismatic church (Word of Faith movement), and I did not undertand why, until I went to a service at a Charismatic church where everyone was speaking in tongues at the same time, in unorderly fashion, no one interpreting the tongues and no one being edified in the spirit!

Praying in tongues is like being in deep meditation, it feels like speaking the same thing but it's not. It's definitely garbrish if you speak from head and not from spirit. I'm in my journey of learning to pray for a longtime and it's possible with this gift. If you see in 1corithians 12:28 it's like full time ministry, ordained by GOD Himself I advise you, go to your inner room, talk to Holy Spirit He will reveal it. It's not for short time prayer, it's for longer longer prayer. When Holy Spirit intervene your prayer you will see it. Pray for minimum of 3 hours. I learnt from Man of God, who worked with great miracles, Dave Roberson. He teaches that encounter in more understanding. Just find a book, " walk in power" by Dave and you will learn something. @@rossdaboss1959 everything you said was biblically INCORRECT. Tongues do not even exist. Paul said they would cease and they did. ALL tongues had to have Apostolic Authority. That's why the sign gift of tongues was given to the apostles in Mark 16:17-20. Paul says tongues are for a sign. That means all of the gifts in Mark 16 are sign gifts and has nothing to do with the church. They confirmed the word of God that was spoken by the apostles to prove they were from God and not false teachers. That WORD OF GOD has been confirmed. It's the bible. The apostles are dead which means there are no more sign gifts. The bible is finished which means you can not add to it. Now: you have no time concept. Acts/Pentecost was in 27 A.D. The letter to the church at Corinth was over 20 years later. The application of tongues was the same in both cases. Tongues can NEVER be the evidence of receiving the Spirit. That is heresy. That's why Paul said, "not all speak in tongues, do they?" The simple obvious answer is NO. The spirit giving utterance is because the speaker does not know the language. It had to be done by the spirit, just like interpretation. It had to come from God so that the listener could hear it in his own language. Women were never allowed to speak in tongues because it usurps the authority of the man. Therefore that eliminates the 120 in the upper room because women were there. You are not matching scripture with scripture. Women NEVER WROTE scripture and they never confirmed anything from God by means of signs. The ones who spoke in tongues were the apostles only. Keep it in context. Also church has nothing to do with tongues. It was the same inside or out because the church began on Pentecost but NO ONE knew it, until it was shown to Paul alone, 16 years later. Your concept of time is really throwing you off. You speak as if everything happened at once. In the Greek language, the Aorist tense of the verbs used when getting a gift, is at the same moment you get the holy spirit. You get the Spirit at the moment of conversion. It's the Spirit himself. Then AT the SAME moment, HE gives you a gift to use for the church's benefit. You don't know what it is until much time goes by to figure out what it is. You have to grow in maturity to find out what it is, and then how to use it properly. No gift was known at the time of salvation. So Paul never spoke in tongues using the gift and he did not speak in tongues when he was converted. Paul already spoke in three languages. That's why he said he spoke in Languages more than they. Tongue were always languages. The thief on the cross never spoke in tongues but Jesus said, "this day you will be with me". He died along with him. Not one word of tongues was EVER recorded in scripture. That means it is NOT part of the gospel. Now you need to know what Paul meant when he explained what tongues were, In 1 corinth 14: 21-22 Paul quotes IN THE LAW from the old testament. This is where tongues originated and he tells you what it was for and to whom it was for, and Why. Paul quotes from Isaiah 28:11-12. and explains what "tongues" were. Until you understand that the purpose of tongues NEVER changed from old to new testament, you will never understand what tongues WERE; not are. They CEASED just like Paul said they would. The fact that the bible is finished proves the sign gifts are finished. This also includes two particular gifts. They are: #1. THE WORD OF KNOWLEDGE. #2 THE WORD OF PROPHECY. The word used, for "Word" is LOGOS in Greek which specifically means the Godly message. It does not mean putting words together to form a sentence. Those two gifts were for delivering God's message. Again: it has been delivered. It's the bible. No more sign gifts and no more delivering of God's message to people. That's why the Greek in Hebrews 1:1-2 says the last of THESE days. It's the days in which God was speaking to us by his son, Jesus. The day in which Jesus was finished giving John the book of revelation, was the day, God's word was complete. But tongues did not exist for 25 years BEFORE that. They ceased. Now you need to figure out WHY.

But remember, speaking tongues and having an interpreter makes it just as important as prophesies because everyone can understand.

perhaps we should remember when considering the question about tongues of angels, that in heaven there was only one language and that mankind up until the tower of Babel had only one tongue, whether they were the same is not clear, however, when God confused the speech of man, then one tongue became many and forced people to gather into groups which could understand each other and so it remains today. A view I have heard expressed is that Paul when he was stoned and possibly died went to the 3rd heaven, and of course he would have heard the language of the angels whilst there, and perhaps he spoke it while there, and when he returned he was making a reference to that experience in 1 Cor 13:1, I realise that it is conjecture, but many commentaries certainly state that they believe when Paul was referring to "that person who went to the 3rd heaven" was in fact himself. Great teaching here pls consider it carefully, because what we see today, is not repeat not scriptural in any way. Apart from Paul referencing tongues in these scriptures, there is not, repeat not, another example by the disciples, or James, John or Peter or Jude that ever made a reference to speaking in tongues, now if it was to be a church gift, then at the least I would expect Peter to have made a mention or reference to it or to Paul's teaching on it, but that did not happen. Consider these points because they cannot be dismissed lightly God Bless.

I had to repent from speaking in tongues as well. Here's a thought, how can we say Amen even in private prayer if we ourselves don't know what we are saying? That should scare anyone. My last straw trying to convince people was after a year of them "listening and agreeing with this exact teaching right here, repeatedly in different formats", I heard in conversation they were okay with the tongues spoken amongst them because they got interpretation. Mind you, everyone of them speaks perfectly good English. I threw in the towel at that point.

Chris Anthony: why do you not know that tongues and all of the other sign gifts do not exist? Paul says tongues would cease and they did. You just don't know where to look or how to understand it. What you are hearing is a total lie against scripture. They have so many violations against scripture, it is mind boggling . How do they do this and are not convicted by God? Because they destroy God's word and God will not teach them who are self righteous. I've taught for 36 years using the original languages. If you want to be shown the truth, then get a hold of me and I'll go over it with you. What would you do if you KNEW someone was lying against scripture and you said nothing? Are you talking about "The prayer" as being tongues? That is a contradiction against scripture. Tongues WERE a sign TO the unbeliever. So who is the unbeliever when someone is praying? TOTAL GARBAGE. HOW is it a private language when Paul says, "Let it be by two and no more than three AND let one interpret"? This is an UGLY sadistic LIE against scripture. The nature of it is demonic. People just take the lie and keep it going for their own selfish purposes because they are power mad and self righteous. This is NOT of God. So how about a straight forward talk about what you see and hear, and all of the violations these people do, to prove it's not from God? Do you WANT to rightly divide the word, or watch scripture being destroyed right in front of you? Ask yourself this: How is it that the very people that claimed to do signs and miracles "in jesus' name" are the very people THAT JESUS SENT TO HELL? DEPART.... I NEVER KNEW you.

May the Lord bless you for wanting to teach others the Word of God. I have watched a few of your videos, and they are of interest. However, this one, regarding the tongues and the gift of tongues the scriptures are not as you explained them. There are tongues which is a sign that the person is baptized in the Holy Spirit, and then there is the gift of tongues in which we see in 1 Cor 12. The 120 on the day of Pentecost when they were baptized in the Holy Spirit spoke in another language, then the you one the knew. They didn't know what they were saying, however the people who were from those places which spoke those languages were able to understand them, as they heard the wonderful things of God. Of what you claim is true that tongues serve the purpose to preach,, why then did Peter preach in the local language? Your argument doesn't not hold. You stressed the tongues of angels to try and to make your argument, but speaking in tongues is not just speaking in the tongue of angels, which it could be but it is mostly not. It is usually another human language which the believer doesn't know themselves, and that is why it is unfruitful because they don't understand, therefore Paul says 'I will pray with the Spirit (the Holy Spirit) and will my mind.' Of there has to be order in the church and during the time of prayer where neither all are to speak in tongues nor all are to prophecy. When Cornelius and all his household was baptized in the Holy Spirit, why were they speaking in tongues? To preach to Peter and the other believers? No, but it was sign that Peter and the other believers could hear and understand that they were baptized with the Holy Spirit. Now the gifts of the Spirit are 9, as stated in 1 Cor 12, however there are unfortunately churches out there that give a bad name to the gifts and the Holy Spirit. Like going around dancing and running around , jumping up and downloading, blowing on each other , knocking people over ... May the Lord have mercy on us. So let's not nigate the Word because some people misuse the scriptures. God bless you, keep striving!

@@gordoncochrane6325 I love 1st Corinthians 14, but have found that taken with chapters 12 and 13 it makes more sense. Chapter 14 is about the orderly use of the gifts, but even there Paul talks about private prayer. I was more or less raised AOG and it was a real struggle. It wasn't until I was married and had 2 little wonderful kids that I understood that their stance on the "initial physical evidence" was all wrong. I counseled 2 people not to worry about tongues, but just seek more of God. Shortly afterwards each one also received a private prayer language. Ministering to a Catholic inmate he asked me to help him keep his mind from wandering during prayer. I counseled him to read John 18, 19, and 20 and visually follow Jesus from His arrest in the Garden to His death on the cross and finally His resurrection. When I saw this inmate later (about a week later) he said it worked, only he was saying this phrase in another language and wanted to know what that was all about. No one taught him about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, but because he was seeking God, that's what he received. Seek the Giver, not the gift.

Thanks mate. This is one of the best expositions of the "tongues" (languages) question I've heard. It needed some Aussie straightforwardness. I do admire your patience for, and tolerance of, such things. I must say I do have trouble sharing that patience and tolerance. My impatience for it can test my own spirit. However, I sometimes feel as though I'm justified, as Paul was when he rebuked the woman who kept following him and Silas, loudly praising them and seemingly praising God in the process (Acts 16:17-19). My reasons are similar to his. Leaving the scriptural evidence aside, which you explored so expertly, I can say I have observed the fruits of those who use the "gift" of tongues over a long period of time, and have come to the following conclusions: * It's prideful. Almost invariably, those I have known who have spoken (mainly prayed) in tongues have hankered for a "gift" that makes them special and separates them from other believers. This has extended to their judgement of other believers. As time has gone on they have become convinced that those who lack their "gift" do not have the Holy Spirit. * It's superficial. Their justification for the use of "tongues" is, as you point out, based on a half-understanding of half-lines in Scripture, yet entire doctrines are based on it. * It's stubborn and stiff-necked. The rational, Biblically-based reasons you present here are almost NEVER heard by those who practice this method. Their responses to arguments such as yours are almost invariably based on subjective experience and emotion. What's more, many of the ones I've known over many years roll their eyes and scoff at suggestions that they might be hanging their spiritual hat on a spiritual peg that doesn't exist. It's a big call to go all-in on a belief that might not be supported by Biblical evidence. * It's deeply deceptive. This might be where I differ from you a little bit. Because the use of tongues as it is used today is Biblically unsupported, no church, no individual, should be babbling incomprehensibly. Full stop. I don't think it should matter that the church in question is Biblical in every other way. Like that woman who followed Paul, we can seem to be praising God, and we can be deceiving many. Unlike a lot of theologians, I don't believe it's okay to be 99% correct. It seems from my reading of Scripture that God is NOT as tolerant of "nuance" and "diversity" as we think He might be. Hence, the saying about a little leaven leavening the whole lump. What I'm saying here is NOT that anyone is 100% correct, but we certainly need to be humble as we search Scripture (as I believe you are, hence your ability to recant and repent). It's also deeply deceptive because I've seen whole congregations agog at the use of tongues by a preacher, and then say "amen" to something they didn't understand. The levels of deception in that little vignette alone are staggering. * It's dishonest. So many people I know who have taken this "gift" seriously have merely learned by rote whole strings of nonsense phrases in order to say they have the "gift". Not all, mind you. Regarding the others, it seems they are animated by a certain spirit, and it's not from God. According to your own argument, if it's not Biblical, then it must be from elsewhere. Why, then, would I even begin to take them seriously, or even go near a church that practices "tongues". I want to share a story with you. A multi-lingual Christian friend of mine keeps company of people with similar interests. One of her friends is an expert in obscure, dead dialects. Searching for a church to join, she once entered a building in which the entire congregation was speaking in unison in a tongue. She immediately turned to her husband and said, "we need to get out of here!" They were using a defunct, ancient Asian language, and she recognised the words as blasphemies against God. Yet they were doing so in a "prayerful" attitude. We need to ask what spirit animates those who practice this un-scriptural habit, as we have grounds for serious doubt. I take the matter very seriously for a few reasons. I've seen new believers hijacked by people who speak tongues and believe the whole theology around it. Almost invariably, those new believers have fallen away. They received no substance, just subjective, experiential "Christianity". I've had friends hankering for the "gift" and remaining unsatisfied with their faith and dissatisfied with God because He hasn't conferred that gift upon them. I've been judged by Christians who briefly believed only the Bible until they had some kind of "revelation", started babbling and looked around at those who failed to follow suit with superior contempt. I've seen whole congregations, lacking the substance of Scripture but adept at babbling, fall apart, fall into immorality, or suffer from low-quality fellowship. Almost invariably, the church and its preachers come across more as spiritists than Christians. There are many other reasons - too many to mention here. Thanks again, and I'm sorry to differ on that point. I still admire your patience about this matter.

@brianmatthew: you have MANY violations of scripture. Nothing you said is correct. This man in the video is a lying fraud and not a christian. He believes that you can lose your salvation. That is heresy. Tongues do not exist. Paul says that tongues would CEASE and they did; 2000 years ago. READ THIS: and pay attention: Mark 16:20. ALL of the sign gifts were for the apostles for confirming the word of God. THAT "word" has been confirmed. It's called THE BIBLE. The word for, WORD, in the Greek, is LOGOS. It means specifically THE GODLY MESSAGE. It is not putting words to form sentences as I am doing now. Therefore by the time the apostles died, scripture was finished and all the signs ceased; especially tongues which ceased 25 years before John died. Anyone who believes the sign gifts are still here, is saying that God is adding new revelation. THAT IS HERESY. Anyone's personal experiences are no way to validate scripture. God warns you not to use them or emotions. They are not founded on truth. That is blasphemy. Tongues do not exist because they CEASED just like Paul said they would. They came from the OLD testament and the purpose for tongues never changed. There is only ONE verse that tells us what tongues were for, and to whom they were for, and why. Paul quotes it and says, "IN THE LAW". That is the Old testament. He quotes Isaiah 28:11. The purpose of tongues, earthly languages, were a condemnation sign against Israel for following after Pagan cultures and worshiping their gods and marrying into their cultures. God put them into captivity by the Assyrians. He did it again later through the Babylonians. Now Paul is warning the church that a third time was coming. IT WAS ROME. It's the WAR of 70 A.D. The Jews were scattered as James 1:1 says, and the purpose of tongues was fulfilled. They CEASED. Paul said that tongues were for a sign. Therefore every gift listed in Mark 16:17-18 are SIGN gifts. They not only confirmed God's spoken message through the apostles, but it proved that the apostles were from God, and not false teachers. Verse 14 says that Jesus rebuked the disciples for THEIR hardness of heart AND UNBELIEF. THEY were the unbelievers. Simple English. "Those that believe" are NOT common believers. Did YOU ever write scripture? Did YOU ever confirm the spoken word of God out of your own mouth? Did YOU ever drink something deadly or get bitten by a deadly snake with no harm whatsoever? So read Acts 1:2. Jesus gave ORDERS to the disciples. Under no circumstances is he giving Orders to people who are not there. Therefore it is NOT to common believers throughout time. Jesus told his disciples that if THEY asked for anything, he would do it for them. In English, it is called, Second person plural. Simple English. It is not to everyone to do what Jesus did. The apostles carried on with delivering God's message about his son. Hebrews 1:1-2. It does not say, the last days. The Greek is, The last of THESE days. It's the days in which God was speaking his word through his son, Jesus. The book of Revelation is the last book and it is the revelation of WHO Jesus is. Therefore anyone who thinks the sign gifts are still around, is saying that God is adding to his word. Where then are the books after God's confirmed message? They don't exist. Revelation 19:10. The Spirit, or purpose, of prophecy is the TESTIMONY OF JESUS. That's the Bible. Jesus said, " When the Spirit comes, he will testify of Me." That's the bible. Prophets don't exist. They are lying, self centered, self righteous frauds. The word of God is finished. We are to live by EVERY WORD that proceeds out of the mouth of God. We can not live by "every word" unless we HAVE every word. That's the Bible. STUDY to show yourself approved unto God.... Rightly dividing the word of truth. The Greek words for, "rightly dividing', are, CUT IT STRAIGHT. Grow in the grace AND knowledge of our Lord. The Spirit will never give anyone a gift that does NOT exist. God does not allow for personal opinions. God deals with FACTS. NO ONE can ask for a gift. The Spirit gives certain gifts to the church, AS HE WILLS. So read this over again until you understand it. The guy in the video has no knowledge of these things.

The SPANISH language is something I need to learn. So many Mexicans are flooding our state up north that borders Canada. They know English well. They speak in Spanish in front of me while I check them out at Walmart. When people from other countries come to live in America legally (or illegally), it is important to learn that countries LANGUAGE (native tongue). United We Stand.....Divided We Fall. When Missionaries are called to GO to a foreign country to share the good news of the GOSPEL, they must LEARN that countries language. It would be nice if they could just "supernaturally" speak another countries language, but that is NOT what happens. It can take several years to learn the FOREIGN LANGUAGE. It is good to find someone that understands both languages so they can interpret correctly. They can "interpret" the Spanish language to the American who speaks no Spanish. Evangelist Billy Graham had to have an interpreter on stage with him to communicate the gospel message to those in the audience while in foreign countries.

I've been attending Pentecostal churches for nearly 20 years. In the early years, there was tongue speaking in the Sunday service and it was talked about fairly often. Also there were prayers for the sick, prayers for miracles and there was prophecy. But in recent years the enthusiasm for these gifts has waned. I haven't heard tongues even mentioned in the last five years; there are no more healing meetings with guest preachers. Not many people take it seriously when the preacher randomly prophesies from the pulpit, once or twice a year. It's all become fairly 'mainstream'. It seems that the emperor's new clothes are now seen for what they are; a thing we all wanted to believe, but was really a product of our own vivid imaginations. We were desperate for signs from God. But signs never came. There were no healings or miracles. Prophecies failed. And tongues, if we are truly honest with ourselves, are just man-made gibberish. Maybe in years to come, history will judge Pentecostalism as a phase that ran its course for for less than 100 years, something like the 19th century revivals. What do others think?

Speaking in tongues is a gift from God for personal edification. Definitely, God will not give us something that is not good because He loves us and He is a good God. Praying in tongues is very powerful and good for our lives. Every Christian should learn to speak in tongues. This is my testimony. I was once attacked by an unclean spirit when I was sleeping when my housemate brought in an idol into our house. That night an unclean spirit came as a beam of red light and oppressed me when I was sleeping . I couldn't move when I was attacked. I then began to wage spiritual warfare against the unclean spirit by praying in tongues. Do you know what happened? God sent an angle of the Lord to fight for me. The two angelic beings were fighting in my room when I was praying in tongues. They were like a whirl wind spinning and beating me. I stood firm in my faith against the force of darkness and continued to pray until the unclean spirit was defeated and fled. This is what I want to share. God bless.

It's like saying a English person wouldn't understand English outside of England... There is no Biblical evidence for that statement. Please show me one Bible verse that supports that claim. Satan can't hear our silent prayers (as only God knows the hearts of men). That's ALL we can claim from the Bible about prayers to God and their interception by Satan. We shouldn't go beyond what is written to support our personal, experiential beliefs (I too used to pray in tongues and name and claim things in Jesus' name - having thoroughly read the Scriptures, I no longer do). It is dangerous. We all believe in Jesus as our atoning propitiation for sin and receive it by faith in Christ. @@poppzs Because on the Day of Pentecost no MAN could interpret BUT GOD COULD and He did. Now listen to this a minute okay, Friend, If you walk into a room and 120 people are speaking like 15 languages ALL AT THE SAME TIME, you would not be able to understand even if one was speaking in your language because, it would sound rather confusing. You know what I’ve walked into a classroom with 30 kids all speaking English and chattering to one another, and it sounds very confusing and annoying as well. And since you stopped speaking in tongues because you thought it was just gibberish, it probably was gibberish. It wasn’t the heavenly tongues. Okay. Because when one is speaking the Heavenly tongues, The LORD is doing it. I’m so sorry to say but you never received The Holy Ghost. Okay. But you can still get it. Paul speaks about the unknown tongue , and says no man can understand him because in the Spirit, he speaks mysteries. 1Corinthians 14 But then Paul talks about the gift of tongues which are earthly languages which one has never learned before. That’s in 1 Corinthians 12:10 Saying that its a stretch to say that The Miracle was in The hearing of those people on The Day of Pentecost, when they ALL heard 120 disciples speak in their own language, would be saying that it’s IMPOSSIBLE for The LORD to do this. You sir are putting limitations on OUT GREAT GOD! The problem is people tend to place humanistic attributes on GOD. We can NOT see GOD as on our level of capabilities. You know people also believe that GOD did not split the Red Sea for Moses and The Israelites, they say that was a stretch too. We MUST be very Careful of what we say about GOD’S SPIRIT, which is The Holy Ghost. Because if we are denying the Power of The Holy Ghost then that’s what is called BLASPHEMY! And The Bible says Blasphemy against The Holy Ghost shall NOT be forgiven in this world OR the world to come. So Please folk retract statements that doubt The POWER OF THE HOLY GHOST!!! And Please remember also , when you get on a video and say such things, you are influencing multitudes to believe a lie as well and their blood will The LORD require at your hands. You MUST REMEMBER, everyone has a following, and it’s up to you to make sure you don’t lead them astray from TRUTH. I can tell by the way you’re talking that you are still shaky with this. Listen seek The LORD for The HOLY GHOST. the LORD WILL SURELY SPEAK WHEN HE FILLS YOU. HE never wants to leave us guessing whether we have His Spirit, this is also why HE speaks through us in our Heavenly tongue, so we can be assured that He is in there. Now yes the devil does imitate to fool people. But when The Real Holy Ghost Comes in YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH WILL MAKE YOU FREE! ITS GLORIOUS SIR! I am praying for you sir because I really do care

I speak these words by the instructions of The MOST HIGH GOD. This letter is addressed to three groups of people on these replies.

What you say directly contradicts what Paul said. He clearly said that tongues, unless interpreted, only edifies the individual because the person speakers NOT unto men, but unto God. Paul does not say that to edify one’s self is useless , but rather goes on to say that he spoke in tongues more than them all. Would you call what Paul did useless? and he also says NOT to forbid speaking in tongues.( I Corinthians 14:39) I Corinthians 14:2-4 (2)he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. Also, saying that it is “gibberish” is kind of arrogant. How do you know it’s not a language? There are over 6000 languages in the world , over 1500 of which are spoken by less than 1000 people. If you heard these languages, would you recognize them as “real languages” ? Probably not. Also who’s to say that only “earthly languages” are real? I’m pretty sure angels don’t communicate with each other in English, Spanish or French. And I don’t think the official language of heaven is Greek or Latin. The Bible clearly says there is an unknown mysterious language that we speak only to GOD. So who are any of us to call that gibberish?

@@holyghostfire238 It is Gibberish if no one understands! If you want to speak like that Paul also said do it in Private! Also Not Everyone receives the same gift's, so again who does speaking in Gibberish help? When Jesus said, "These signs shall follow them that believe: In my name they shall cast out evil spirits. They shall speak in new tongues. They shall pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison it shall not hurt them. They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." So I believe he was specifically speaking to the chosen apostles who were given these superpowers, and the next verse it says that the Lord himself "worked" with them and "confirmed" the word by the "signs" that followed. The apostles also had the ability to pass on speaking in tongues to people through the laying on of hands. And it seemed that one could pray to receive the gifts of the spirit. This is what happened after Jesus ascended. But is speaking in tongues active today? In such cases...can we drink deadly poison today? These were the signs, why just choose one of these two? Seems very appropriate to only choose what is harmless as active. According to Jesus, those who speak in tongues should be able to drink deadly poison. How do we view that matter?

The word of God stands true for today and through out eternity. Everything that we know in this life will die, but the Bible says His written word will never come to an end. Why because God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son if the Living God and the Holy Spirit of God is the Word and is alive throughout eternity. It will never pass away.

@@diamantinasoward-ls4ug You said "the word of God stands true" which may be insinuating that I am saying otherwise since you are commenting on what I wrote. If you claim that I say God's word is a lie, then you have a typical straw man argument. Nowhere do I claim that God's word is a lie. That the word of God shall never pass away means that this world shall pass away (as you said, die) but we can trust that what he says is true. But, that doesn't mean that everything that is done in the bible is what to do forever. Should we slaughter and sacrifice animals in the eternal state where there is no death? Are you going to lay hands on the sick there? My question was about speaking in tongues and poison, which you couldn't comment on at all. Why is it that some claim to have the gift of speaking in tongues but no one can drink poison or be bitten by a venomous snake without being hurt. My thoughts on this is that before they had super powers and we are nowhere near the powers of the apostles today, hence, is it for today? Desirable though. Peace

Grew up in the Penticostal, charismatic Assembly of God. In 2011, I began questioning my faith. Not whether or not I believed the Gospel, but what I had grown up being taught about "being a chrsitian". How much of my faith was religion, how much was relationship. Be that as it may, I stopped "speaking in tongues" because I didn't know if what I knew and had practiced was actually tongues and not gibberish. In 2021, after 10 years of not speaking or attempting to speak in this "unknown language", I was in a thrift store glancing over the dvd selectiong when a risqué cover caught my attention. I was actively trying to be better about not entertaining and giving in to that end of sensuality. I struggled to turn away, but successfully I did. All of a sudden I felt this force in my chest up move up to my throat. I let it out, (but under my breath), and all of a sudden I was speaking jn this "unknown language". It startled me, because once again, I didn't believe in it, I didn't not believe in it. The biblical truth of the subject hadn't yet manifest, move from logos to rhama in my understanding. I am still at the logos on whether this secret heavenly language is biblical. But I have been using it more as of late, privately. When I'm not sure what to pray, but I know I need to pray, I just pray in this manor. When the enemy begins to arise, condemning me for the act, or tries to tell me it's pointless and doesn't work, I pray a little louder more fervent. The enemy flees.

Firestomped04 Sorry but there isn't one thing that you said that was biblical. Your Greek words are all wrong. I've taught for 36 years with using the original languages. God is not going to make you do something that is against his word. Tongues ceased as Paul said they would. You do not have the education of scripture to know where to read and what was happening when Paul talks about it. For now, I don't condemn you, I condemn the act. It is NOT a heavenly language. Think a minute. Paul says it is UNLAWFUL that any man should speak that which he heard in heaven. Plus tongues were a sign to unbelievers. ARE THERE ANY UNBELIEVERS IN HEAVEN? NO. False teaching picks out verses and makes an issue out of one verse. You MUST read in context and content as well as know the important words in Greek to understand what is being said. Paul says "Let it be by two and no more than three". Again you are in violation of scripture. And where is your unbeliever? Another violation. So just how many violations are you going to do against God's word before you stop? This does not honor God. Learn the truth and get a hold of me. STOP using your feelings to try and justify the bible. God warns you against that. Heed the warnings. Your relationship with God will never grow as long as you are chasing your tail.
