If the only thing that gives you hope for Spyro 4 is a random KZbinr who provides nothing but rumors and speculation, then maybe it's time to throw in the towel. Don't get me wrong; I love Spyro the Dragon. The character means a lot to me, and Reignited brought back so many fond memories of my childhood. So of course I was excited for the possibility of a Spyro 4. But dude, it's been nearly six years. And during that time, Activision took an excellent remaster of Crash Team Racing and fucked it up with microtransactions, cancelled a proposed Crash Bandicoot 5 because CB4 failed to meet their sales expectations, made a live-service Crash Bandicoot battle royale game nobody asked for, and laid off several Toys for Bob employees upon completing their merger with Microsoft. Any doubts regarding Crash 5's cancellation were laid to rest last month when it was officially confirmed by a Toys for Bob dev, and Did You Know Gaming released a KZbin video earlier today going into detail of what could have been. And one of the concepts that was apparently being worked on was of a crossover between Crash and Spyro. This means that Activision may have believed that Spyro wasn't strong enough to stand on his one, especially when you compare him to Crash in terms of popularity. With no Crash 5, there can be no Spyro 4. The closest thing we have to that is Enter the Dragonfly, and fans would much rather forget about that one. And what does CGE do? He goes onto Twitter trying to downplay the situation. Nicholas Kole - who worked on concept art for Reignited - called him out on it. And when I tried to call him out myself, he blocked me on Twitter. He's all talk and no show. And I don't trust him.

I am 35 years old. Spyro the Dragon was my first ever playstation game back in 98 when I got the system and the game for christmas. This little dude has been nestled snugly in my heart since the first time I ever heard his little feet go PATAPATAPATA across the grass. The thing that bothers me about people saying xbox killed banjo is the people specifically that made banjo are not at rare anymore. Nobody there has connections to banjo or conker themselves, just the company they work for. Many of the toys for bob developers stated they grew up playing spyro, that is why theyre charged about him, they have nostalgia hardcore for him. Id be the same way, if i was a game developer and i got handed a chance to code for spyro, megaman, or banjo i would be jumping for joy

Just following up on your comment, most people that were working at old rareware moved onto the project of creating Playtonic, after the successful kickstarter for the first game and spiritual successor of Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee. It does seem like Playtonic is doing well, after the kickstarter they launched a second game inspired in the old Donkey Kong games called Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible lair, they're also publishing indie games under the label Playtonic Friends.

...Maybe not the team who did Reignited's Spyro 3 and helped finish Spyro 2. It was done by a 3rd party which is why 1 has no bugs, 2 has minimum bugs and a few game breaking oversights and 3 has straight up soft locking bugs and sometimes corrupts its own save file.

I've been saying on the Spyro subreddit for a while that a lot has changed at Activision since 2018. Toys for Bob have been roped into doing several projects (Crash, helping COD) that they probably weren't expecting. Activision being bought by Microsoft which took a long time to go through, you see in the film industry that uncertainty will lead to a show going off the air or an idea for a new show being pushed back. So it's reasonable to assume it's similar for games as well. The real positive is how much Activision/Toys for Bob twitter accounts gave Spyro a lot of love in September for the 25th Anniversary. If Activision considered the series done and no future plans with it. The marketing team wouldn't have gone to all that trouble. We just need to be patient and it will come.

I'm sure someone has said this in here, but I'm not gonna read all the comments, but the Platinum trophy for the third game is called "Party like it's 2024". This may be because it will officially be the year of the dragon again, but I also know studios plan games way in advance. Why not tease the 4th game when you 100% the third game? I know with the merging of companies this could have changed, but the social media coming back to life right before 2024 seems suspicious.

There are obviously fans for all of these games and with he success of the Crash and Spyro recent releases you can see there is a lot of potential for sales and success. I really hope they have a Spyro 4. I just hope it doesn't end up like the other 4th Spyro that has the black dragon...that was horrible, but if it's like the first 3 spyros then awesome. But I do have to say for myself I love the new high colors in PS5 collection on Spyro but love the design of the characters in the original Spyro compared to the remakes. (the frozen dragons and even nasty norg had more personality and originality in the original PS1 version).

I really like the concept about Spyro 1, releasing Dragons. Wouldn't mind if Spyro 4 is a reboot of the first game: Make the realms we already have much bigger, with swimming and more abilites needed, add mini-games, add the dragons to give you challenges after you release them, add new levels. Add finally the Aquafiers and Machinists worlds (as it was supposed to), add Elora and Hunter and Moneybags. Add more cutscenes, improve the bosses. It would be a truly full Spyro experience.

The mini games are somewhat annoying and i never cared for like 2 and 3 about how they held your hand too much. I would like to see new realms but also i dont like long cut scenes. Thats what i like so much about Spyro 1. Its my favorite.

Well thankfully I don't use Reddit and try to stay away from silly drama as much as I can. But in the smaller circles I've been in the most frequent complaint for CGE is that he milks teeny tiny insignificant details and tries to build *false* hype. Which to be honest I used to agree with, despite still watching his content..... but seriously, at this point? This evidence is FAR too strong to deny, this does not feel like false hype, this is finally starting to feel real. And as someone who doesn't use Twitter, doesn't follow random game developers activities etc, I am very thankful that CGE makes these videos and informs me of what's going on.

This is my first time seeing this creator’s videos- I liked it. But honestly got annoyed at the same time with the feeling that he was trying to hit a word count limit for an essay (time limit). They did the 25th anniversary stuff to throw the true fans a bone. They'll gladly (and always) take free marketing/exposure/hype. But they didn't announce it in Sep because it would be much less exposure than if they announce it at TGA. Much, much wider and global audience than a niche twitter population.

It just all feels like damage control, doesn’t it? I think there’s been a fair amount of worried speculation about the discontinuation of the Spyro and Crash IP’s because of the Microsoft/Activision deal, and rightly so. Big companies like that, especially ones that get their profit from massive multiplayer games instead of single player titles, tend to sweep the core of a franchise under the rug and focus on the stuff that makes them money. Recognizable faces and characters, turning mechanics into monetization schemes, version and seasonal updates instead of sequels. That’s the name of the Microsoft game. To me, when I see all this hype and talk being drum up around the IP’s being bought by Microsoft, it feels more like the developers getting sold had some plans for the future that had to get changed, and they are now desperately trying to show that their plan could be profitable. Begging their new hardline owners to let them continue on their internal roadmap. Interacting with their community so suddenly to show that there’s a base there, getting as many people talking about them as possible. Maybe it’s the pessimism in me, but this whole thing seems more like TFB and co. trying to prove their works relevant to their new execs more than it is then getting people warmed up for a new game. My expectations are incredibly low. Rumble is probably the last time we see a new entry made in any IP from the golden age of gaming and any appearance after it’s inevitable shutdown is likely just an Easter egg or passing reference. Just know that if I’m wrong in a year or two, I’ll be immensely happy about it, but my current expectations are abysmal.

@@maxkozak9702 I’m just skeptical that aside from some Easter egg references or character inclusions for the recognition factor, we’ll get any amount of the grand plan TFB or Activision had for the revival of these old IP’s. It’s happened repeatedly through mergers, downscaling, and company buy-outs. Any time hands have switched on a franchise, it’s either done at the worst completely terrible and killing the franchise, or at best, mundane and mediocre and gave us a few more of that quality until the franchise actually died. Just look at Jake and Daxter, Dead Space, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Sly Cooper. I’m a fan of a lot of franchises and I own just about every console, and while PS is near and dear to my heart and I think the PS2/Xbox era was the peak of video games, it just feels as a whole that game development and the medium entirely is more focused on squeezing a profit out of something rather than setting people up to make a work of art. And that’s frustrating.

You can't stereotype mergers like that. Every single one is completely different because every single circumstance behind a merger is different. Microsoft have repeatedly said that they keep devs on a much looser leash which this video even mentions. This video itself debunks your claims.@@meganimanic if anything's going to get kicked back a notch it's Call of Duty. and when you say things can be mediocre it sounds like you're speaking out of personal bias. I trust Microsoft and the fact that Sony had to resort to throwing temper tantrums that were laughed out of court shows this Microsoft is telling the truth. There's too many other explanations for the lack of info. This grand plan is still going to happen, although I suspect beenox will be the main developer rather than twice from Bob. You just took the one most pessimistic point of this video and ran with it. CGE said it would throw the announcement plans out of whack, not that it would throw the game itself in the dustbin. I'm sick of waiting for Activision to say something, but I'm still confident in Spyro 4's existence because it wouldn't have been teased otherwise. Any leakers claiming that it doesn't or was cancelled are just theorising like the rest of us or raining on our parade by pretending to have information. There was also a fan organized Spyro [online] community day on June 4th that TFB & The Spyro Twitter account both acknowledged & the fact that merch companies are still creating merch that the Spyro Twitter was promoting. I think the merch is still being made to keep hype at a low, but present level until we get some kind of announcement. I believe that Spyro 4 has been in development in some form since March 2020 at the latest due to the dating of the Twitter leak I mentioned & the Crash 4 artbook tease. I suspect that Spyro’s redesign in Crash On the Run is hinting at Spyro 4 otherwise why would King bother to redesign him for a mobile game as opposed to just using a lower resolution version of his Reignited model? I still believe the March 2020 TheGamingRevolution Tweet [since deleted through an account suspension] that "a new Spyro game is in the works "and to "expect more info in the coming months" because I believe said leaker has a perfect [or at least very accurate] track record. The reason we don't have any info on the game almost 3 years later is because of the market chaos, delays & electronics shortages [especially the PS5 situation] caused by the pandemic that nobody could’ve predicted the specifics of. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the Activision-Blizzard lawsuits have delayed the game even further due to the company’s resources being redirected to deal with them. Who knows how long the Microsoft buyout had been planned for prior to its announcement? It may've already been considered regarding Wumpa League/Crash Team Rumble & Spyro 4, which could be a contributing factor as to why the latter still hasn’t been announced. Spyro is a PS mascot, so he'd be more heavily affected by the PS5 situation; I wouldn't be surprised if whoever's making Spyro 4 has been forced to create a PS4/ previous gen version as well. That would explain why we haven’t seen the trailer yet. I'm under the impression that the PS5 is more heavily affected then the other 2 consoles, which is why I mentioned it specifically. Just to clarify, I doubt TfB is making Spyro 4 & I didn't think they were in the 1st place; If they are, then It'll end up delayed even more due to the CoD fiasco. If I had to guess who's developing it, I'm guessing it's Beenox. While I don't think TfB is the studio making Spyro 4, the art book tease & the fact that they acknowledged the Spyro community day leads me to believe that they have [or at least had] intel on it. Canadian Guy Eh determined that the activity pattern of the Spyro trademarks also closely resembles what was happening in the leadup to the release of Crash 4. Why would Activision waste money extending new Spyro trademarks If they weren’t going to use them? I don't care if Spyro 4 comes later. I'll just be happy whenever the trailer drops. The longer until Spyro 4 releases, the longer it has been in development & the better it'll likely be because of that. Spyro 4 is real and it's Cynder's ticket back into the main franchise! It would take a counterclaim from a verified Activision account to convince me otherwise! Spyro 4 could also be more ambitious than we think & Wumpa League/Crash Team Rumble was being teased first to buy it more dev time. I haven't doubted Spyro 4's existence since we got that artbook tease. It'd only take a single Tweet for ActiBlizz to disconfirm it, but they haven't.   If Spyro 4 doesn't show up by 2024 for instance, all that would indicate is that it would be in development for at least 4 years at that point. I'm confused as well. the devs know we want Spyro 4 & its existence 1st got leaked almost 3 years ago. Hopefully we're going to get 4-5 years’ worth of nonstop Spyro games like we did with Crash. Either that or they're going for quality over quantity. I.e., something that makes Crash 4 look like ETD in terms of quality by comparison. it's also possible that the long dev time of Spyro 4 is because it could be something so unexpected, ambitious & unbelievable [e.g. a BOTW style open world game and/or a TLOS remake/4th entry] that Activision doesn't want any info given away too early. Stewart Copeland announced on Twitter that the original Spyro Soundtrack release was delayed to May 4th 2022 for a reason he isn't telling us. It's real & the magnitude of the delay combined with the lack of clarification indicates he most likely knows something about Spyro 4. Time has shown that it wasn't an April fools prank, although it was daft to make the original soundtrack release date April 1st . We don't know if the Crash leaker was telling the truth about a 2nd upcoming Crash game being in dev given that this is the 1st we've heard of said game & what he said about also using educated guesses & false rumours when outed as detailed by CGE . Contrast this with the demand for Spyro 4 info that the devs would be aware of & the hints about it that I’ve detailed. The leaker was also leaking info from NDAs, but the mixed sourcing makes the claim of said Crash project dubious. In any case, If the 2nd Crash game is real, then it most likely entered dev after Spyro 4 did and will release accordingly. ActiBlizz didn't outright pull every studio to work on COD, it's just that every studio had some component providing COD support, there's a difference & Canadian Guy Eh probably talked about it. In any case, the devs are perfectly capable of working on multiple projects at once like how Beenox was working on CTR:NF, COD & support work for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 all at the same time. Don't fear, Crash's rumoured 5 year plan [well, 5 year pre COVID] is over. Crash Team Rumble was the last piece & there are no more credible hints of another Crash game before Spyro 4. Just think of all the effort & time that must've been put into Spyro 4 since it was leaked and hinted at. Ask for whatever is happening with Spyro in CTRumble, I’m guessing that Spyro 4 might be revealed alongside his reveal CTRumble. It’s possible they might even put the Spyro 4 trailer in the game because Crash & Spyro have done that with each other‘s games in the past and they’re still referencing each other now. Spyro 4 is ActiBlizz’s next big kid friendly project, mark my words. It'll be worth it. After all, this situation is the OPPOSITE of EtD's. I wonder if one of the reasons Cynder isn't in the Reignited trilogy is because Activision wants to give her a proper reintroduction? Hopefully the new Cynder gets to live the happy life that we never got to see the LOS incarnation have. I still miss her! How about you address literally any other of those points either the ones I just made or the ones that CGE has said multiple times.

@@maxkozak9702 the main thing I want to point out here is that just about everything, and I meant JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING you pointed out is purely speculation. “Rumored five year plans,” social media account posts, changing art styles among developers, wondering about character reintroductions, none of it is concrete evidence about anything. If anything, it sounds more like your own bias against the idea that nothing is going to happen. You’re so hung up on trying to prove something is real that you won’t consider the inverse. There’s a possibility there isn’t anything but the cutting room floor and paper documents right now, and nobody seems to want to admit that. You’re dismissing me and my possibility and that’s naive. I won’t fight about it anymore because this is obviously something that you’re passionate about. So just take this as a final reply from me on the subject: We have no official words about anything related to Spyro 4. What we do have is a social media account that suddenly sprang to life to engage with the community at just the same time community buzz was at a high for their celebration. And that’s all we got. Of course when they’re interviewed, the developers are gonna say they love their brand. They have to. Even if they weren’t passionate about it, they would have to. So there is no concrete anything about any new project. What we DO have is a pattern. A company merger just happened. People are shifting job roles. Money is moving around to different places. Resources are being allocated. It’s all happened before. And not every time has something productive come out of it. Sometimes things get cut. And sometimes things go smoothly. We just don’t know what’s going on behind the closed doors at Microsoft, ActiBlizz, and otherwise. I’ll agree it’s important to keep a optimistic mindset but maybe once you’ve seen a few decades of this sort of thing happening you’ll understand just how many of these kinds of deals don’t end up pleasing everybody, in the company or in the fanbase. And it’s totally possible nothing happens with the IP’s after this. As I said in my very first comment, I don’t want anything bad to happen to the boys. But it’s always a possibility, and I hope I’m proven wrong.

The fact that crash has gotten 2 remakes and 2 or 3 new games while spyro only gets 1 remake is honestly so infuriating. Imo I think spyro is better than crash. I played it more when I was kid and even have more fun with the spyro trilogy than I do the crash trilogy. Especially with the jumping in the crash remake making the game unnecessarily difficult

Could be. It’ll definitely be on Xbox, PC and XCloud so even if it were it’d still be easy for people to play. I’d bet that Nintendo consoles would also get it due to the relationship Xbox and Nintendo have had recently. PS is the one at risk of not getting it since their agreement with Xbox is just to get Call of Duty on PS and nothing else. But I could see it coming to PS down the line after timed exclusivity. As long as PS plays ball with Xbox and doesn’t try to screw them over in the future.

It would be great to have a fourth Spyro game and maybe even include the butchered enter the dragonfly levels because the basic ideas for these levels were really damn good, hands down, if not for the performance issues and all the glitches? I want that. And if they make a fourth game, please keep the original playstyle, I want portals, I want bosses, I want homeworlds and NPCs, I want to collect gems and a new mighty foe - Spyro deserves it, really, just hope they give us a classic spyro style fourth game with all known and well loved characters returning. That would be hella awesome ngl. My dream is to get a new, classically designed Spyro game, a true Spyro 4. My biggest worry is the aesthetic, I hope if they do create it they get it right. I wasnt a fan of Reignited’s “Children’s movie” looking aesthetics/graphics or even the feel tbh. The original trilogy captured an amazing look with the graphics even with the hardware limitations. To this day, that trilogy is the best Spyro has been imo and a new one would have to capture that same aesthetic and feel to be as great. They could even take the Megaman 9 and 10 approach of making a new game emulating the true feel of the originals with PS1 style graphics and gameplay. It might even feel more true to the series if they took that route.

Im mostly interested "nonhuman animator" bit. Spyro is already animated. Sure they might need someone for Spyro cutscenes in Spyro 4 or they're adding some gwmeplay that requires new animations. But this could also mean Spyro 4 has more 4 legged dragons than just Spyro. Also, did the previous Spyro animator leave or do they need more dragon animators now?
