Is Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection Worth It Now?

Single player or local multiplayer is where I’ve spent most of my Battlefront time (on Xbox back-compat). I wouldn’t fault anyone for buying the collection for those reasons but man, what a shame for Aspyr to put this out the way they did. I don’t understand why they continue to get these Star Wars remasters with how bad their track record is at this point. The Battlefront games deserved better.

Same for me too i had alot fun with swbf 1 & 2 back in the day on my old xbox & when this remaster came out too despite some of the problems at launch i still had fun with this but it was a shame i do agree but i'm still happy to be playing the games again However the pvp was a blast for me & my older brother. & GN or Good Day to you

I'm gonna be positive so I'll mention my positives... 1. I love the graphical upgraphed details in this version (not dising on the original because I love it) 2. It's thanks to this people who play the switch can have the chance to play these 2 iconic games 3. It's thanks to this Classic Collection the mass audience who only played it on Xbox or ps2 can now play XL Mode 4. Everyone who didn't play the Xbox version or backwards compatible version now gets access to the 2 DLC characters and 4 DLC Maps 5. The fact u can extend amount of AI men up to 32 in a match is insane (keep in mind in the ps2 and backwards compatible version the max AI team u can spawn in is 16) 6. Last but not least, this Classic Collection for the first time ever added heroes Vs Villians on all ground maps I love I can play this mode on Hoth

If you had the original on PC (I had it on disc long before it went to Steam). You already had all this stuff though. XL was present in the PC version at launch back in 2005. The DLC was also available as a mod. I'm talking about an actual port of the DLC that the Classic Collection itself is using has been around since 2020 and before that there were conversion packs since like 2008. The AI at 32 was also native to the PC launch. Heroes vs. Villians was modded in back in 2008 with stuff like the conversion pack (it also added more heroes and villians to both sides). I'll give you the graphical updates, but this has also been modded in with the objectively superior Battlefront Remaster Mod. If you're on PC, there is next to no real reason to buy the Classic Collection. I did, because I actually missed the vanilla game as my original Battlefont 2 is insanely modded and I didn't feel like having a seperate vanilla install, but I still somewhat regret getting the Classic Collection because even for nostalgia, it was somewhat pointless to buy.

PC hasn't got any players playing it due to them playing on the original battlefronts which is still running. I'd imagine out of all the platforms, Playstation and switch has the higher player count due to them not having the backwards compatibility that xbox has.

You NEED to watch the Original Trilogy. That’s where Star Wars started. I pre-ordered this game, and playing the single player stuff was fun and fine for me. I didn’t play the multiplayer, but that wasn’t the selling point for me. The selling point for me was, I can play my FAVORITE game again!

If you’re gonna play local multiplayer with friends is recommended the BC Xbox battlefront 2. It has 4 player splitscreen for all multiplayer including campaign co op! The remaster sadly lacks that 😔

having played it opn ps2, i loved to see it back agian like that. in singleplayer, most of the bugs ain't really much of an issie i found. of course, the icomic cutscnes being screwed was a big let down. If i may ask, how much do you mind that the ingame music is bugged?

I never played the original versions, it's virtually impossible for a 2-3 years old to play a videogame especially without the consoles they came out for. I got to pre-order it for Switch, and since I didn't have any real intentions of playing online because I'm so shit at shooters that I actually ended up liking the collection. The only issue I had is that the game was not actually playable until 12:00 pm, software for Nintendo Switch usually gets unlocked around 2:00 am but this game wasn't the case. I woke up at that time and the game didn't run, I tried again at 6:00 am and it didn't get unlocked until 12:00 pm for some reason.

$35 on switch is still too much money for this. I'd get it for $15 max because of how terribly they handled multiplayer and pre maturely killed it. Apparently, the switch ports were done the best release day compared to other platforms.

I still wouldn't buy it for the singleplayer....the modding support is practically non-existent on PC. That means no remaster mod. No custom Galactic Conquest. I don't even think the shader patch works. I have a video of the remaster + shader patch on my own channel to highlight how much better it makes everything look, even on some of the worst maps. It doesn't just stop there though. The classic collection STILL has bugs on PC. They are minor bugs, but still bugs all the same that aren't present in the original. This includes "patchy" planet backgrounds, washed out colors, sound issues and small stuff like background explosions and stars having a jitter effect which makes them look off. You can see this right in the video at 0:51 . That was not present in the original game.

BF2 plays smoothly enough now, but my digital copy (PS4) is having trouble with achievement tracking. Definitely a secondary issue, but it is kind of annoying to be like "How many times do I have to earn the rank of General before you'll recognize me for it, game?"
