I love U2 & am always appreciative when someone does an enlightening deep dive such as this! Thank you! Stay has always hit me emotionally. More than the evocative lyrics tho it’s Bono’s delivery (as usual) that gets me. I love the Boston Fleet Center 2001 version performed the top of the heart. Bono & Edge sharing 1 mic & Edge’s gorgeous acoustic playing….Bono commits to every song so intensely….its wonderful. I truly enjoyed your video!! Thx!

Thank you so much! Love this comment, I think this is Bono’s best lyrically, “dressed up like a car crash…” is such a great line! Thank you for your awesome comment

Great video! I love the song. I bought the cassette tape single back in 1993. It captures a special time in U2's career-and, for myself, as a then-14-year-old wrestling with the world! "Stay, and the night would be enough..."

Been a fan since I first saw them in 1983 in their War Tour. Have seen them on every tour ever since. Even saw Bono's Surrender Book Tour and Sphere Show in Vegas. I would say yes, Stay is their best song. It's probably the song I've listened to the most from them, next to Streets and Bad.

Great run down. I love Stay too, it's one of my favourite U2 songs. Though when you mention about no band has done such a shift from album to album apart from U2? Radiohead's OK Computer to Kid A might have something to say about that! Peace

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it, totally fair shout on Radioheads Kid A!

@@TheLastMixedTapeIRL you should do a video on that move. Also more U2 run downs please! Would love you hear your opinions on the final chapters of their career, from No Line to Songs of Surrender to the Sphere shows and the future of the end!

If you weren't there at the time its hard to appreciate how big a shift U2's sound was from the massively successful Joshua Tree to the equally brilliant Achtung Baby. I do agree this is one of their best songs. In the top 10.

Hate to say it, but I suspect that U2 heard the Radiohead Demo of High and Dry, and musically got a lot of influence from this song, which they created in the same year of the release.

Steve - Here’s the very best live version of ‘Stay (Faraway, So Close)’ that puts the Sydney version to shame… kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJLVYmxmpq5ksJYsi=r4gJaU0iWmjg6v7Y

Acthung baby is their best , the reinventing of themselves has to be commended , they could’ve just done another Joshua tree , but they took the risk

You obviously don't know music. Probably someone who doesn't like Bono and can't separate the art from the artist. It's in their top 10 songs.
