Nice review! I’m a hack and slash enthusiast as well and I have to say Stellar Blade is pretty high up there. You’ve got multiple button string combos (Unlike Wukong, I love the game but no combos really?) you’ve got active skills, so many ways to avoid damage (block, parry, dodge, repulse, blink) and skills that combo into perfect parries and dodges as well as takedowns for depleted balance bars. It’s really amazing. Having such an attractive character is a huge plus, but at the same time people will think “omg hot girl with skimpy outfits, this ain’t nothing but a gooner game” well they’re missing out on a good time.

I beat the game a few months ago and thought it was fine. None of it posed any challenge for me until the last two bosses, which the game does absolutely nothing to prepare you for lol. But a few weeks ago, I started a fresh new game on hard mode, and it kicked my ass in the best way possible. Because of how easy normal mode was for me, I didn't feel the need to explore the combat options all that much. But in hard mode, I had to use _everything_ I possibly could at my disposal in order to survive encounters, and it was then I learned how fucking brilliantly designed the game's combat is. I died a lot and got frustrated, but I kept wanting more. It has a few modern pitfalls that I have no love for, like forced walking sections and mindless "go here, pick up thing, come back" side quests, but my biggest gripe is that there isn't a starting difficulty higher than normal. I'd have had a much better initial experience with the game if that was the case. But since replaying it, Stellar Blade is absolutely my GOTY, and I hope to god that Shift Up delivers on the sequel. There's so much potential for this to become a legendary action series.

@@jarltrippin Yeah. I died a few times on normal mode, sometimes just to me being stupid, but the combat in this game is fantastic. I really do hope they make a good sequel with this, but I also hope the English VAs train a bit more cause some were just.... Off. I'm still jamming to the OST though. That Raven Battle Theme is so good.

Great video. This seems to be the universal review of any gamer that actually plays the game and not brush it off because of the character's controversy with all the "censorship and anti woke" bullshit. I see you didn't use a score meter. If you did, what would you score it? Scale of 1-10.
@Avaddov28 күн бұрын
@@rozilla_the_savage4445 I wanna say somewhere around an 8 out of 10.... The story wasn't exactly on-par with things like FF6 or P5, but was fine for what it was. I also wasn't a fan of the English VA as I mentioned in the review, but this game really knocks it out of the park when it comes to the gameplay and the music.

@Avaddov yup! Adam's voice acting in particular was annoying the shit out of me. They need to fire him for the sequel. I had so much fun playing it, and when they added the boss challenge, made for more reason to keep playing it and perfect your parrying. Love this game. Story was decent, but i not what kept me playing it. The side missions were fun and even better when they revealed a boss fight.

I didn’t play all the games nominated this year so I can’t say Stellar Blade is better than them all but it absolutely deserved to be nominated at the least just on the fact that it’s a solid game. But I’m not surprised the jury’s been out on Geoffs Game Awards, it’s very biased and he caters to his friends in the industry, the show is only watchin for it’s world premieres and reveals.

Having just finished the game yesterday, I've gotta say I think I really loved my time with it. The story is dog shit but pretty easily ignorable. Honestly loved everything else about it. Wouldn't call it hack and slash but it reminds me of the best aspects of those old h&s PS3 games. Not sure I'd say goty worthy, but I'd definitely rather have it in the running instead of Shadow of the Erdtree
@Avaddov27 күн бұрын
@@DeadmanToto Eh, I wouldn't say the story was that bad, but definitely closer to mid. It's actually better once you piece everything together after doing the true ending. And honestly, SOTET was one of the highlights of an otherwise drought of a year for gaming and has more content than most AAA games that released this year... (*looks at the corpse of concord*). The fact that a DLC was considered for GOTY this year just shows how weak 2024 was for gaming overall.
@DeadmanToto27 күн бұрын
@Avaddov Yeah the "dog shit" comment was just a bit exaggerated tbh lol it just came off as diet Nier to me, but it wasn't offensively bad or anything. And I don't disagree about Shadow being great or having more content than a lot of games, but I still feel GoTY should be reserved for actual games only. I think they should have made a category for DLC instead. Had it been released stand-alone, á la Red Dead Nightmare, I'd say it's fair game, but the fact that you have to own Elden Ring, the actual game to even have access to SotE disqualifies it imo. It's not that big of a deal tho, I'm not as angry about it as I see a lot of people are, and it sure as hell deserves recognition.

Stellar Blade is a Fantastic game and the visuals are outstanding, but Game of the year, I think not, it has too many bugs, it crashes a lot, the Game of the year is Black Myth Wukong.

Never had any crashes, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. But I feel like this game should have at least gotten a nomination for best music or at least best action.
@barnuner28 күн бұрын
??? It's the opposite. Stellar Blade is one of the most optimized games for PS5. And Black Myth Wukong has a lot of problems, bad iq, no HDR, no vrr support, bad frame time issues, texture pop in, a memory leak, 30fps using frame gen to get performance.
