Having ridden EST bindings for several years, I personally prefer RELFEX now for an improvement in my riding feel and have been able to adapt to various riding conditions on any board. I have also transitioned to stepons, which have proven to be a game-changer. While I have experimented with other bindings like Genesis, my preference has always been for Malavitas. Malavitas are known for their exceptional responsiveness and stiffness, which are highly sought after by riders. However, it’s important to note that while Genesis offer comfort, they may not provide the same level of responsiveness. In conclusion, I have chosen not to use Genesis bindings due to their lack of durability and reliability. Additionally, I have observed that the web high backs on Genesis frames tend to deteriorate over time, rendering them less functional. Therefore, I prioritize durability and reliability in my binding selection. Stepon, reflex is what I prefer. 🤷♂️👊

High back rotation? To get the highbacks aligned with the edges? This was the big advantage of "old" burton bindings above a lot of competitors. Seems that with the step on system it is not possible?

Really cool thought on the base bushing in regard to different designs, re: the hinge, and canting. I worked at one of the Vail shops for three seasons, so I’ve know about step on since 2013. I love Burton design, just really great stuff

For a weight comparison the medium EST Genesis Step On are 1480g vs 1700g for the ReFlex Genesis Step On (I have both). The Supermatic carbon are just under 3000g a pair. The weight of the new EST’s are noticeably lighter and unless you plan on using the Step On’s on anything other than the channel system they are superior in every way to the ReFlex version. Please Burton make the X version in the EST form factor for next year. I love the carbon X’s on my Mega Death and would love to have the EST carbon X on my Custom X 🙏
@Santi27Crip10 күн бұрын
But in that weight comparison you're not considering that the Step On boots are substantially heavier than a regular pair of boots that you'd ride on Supermatics, plus to the unconditional stiffness that you are obliged to have with a step on boot, as the boot needs to maintain the extra stiffness to ensure the attachment to the Step On system. With my Supermatic I can wear whatever boots I like and the riding feeling is exactly the same as with a conventional binding, which is not the case when I have been testing Step On.
@PatMeurier10 күн бұрын
@@Santi27Cripthe Burton Step On boots are not significantly heavier than their counterparts. The @goodride did a comparison between Step On, Standard Strap and Supermatic using the photon boots US 10 and medium bindings for comparison, the supermatic weighed in at 700grams heavier as a pair than the Supermatics which almost the weight of an extra medium step on binding bolted to your board. For me I have K2 Ender boots size US 11 with K2 Lien FS bindings and compared with my Photon Soft US 11 with large Step On Reflex the Step On combo is only 95 grams heavier per pair which is insignificant. My photon boots are 150 grams lighter than my Enders per pair. Step On Reflex is nearly as light as strap bindings where Supermatics are not, the advantage that it has as you mentioned is boot compatibility. Consider this that most boards of 157-160 weigh in at around 3kg how would think by adding 700- 800 grams of dead mass would make it feel?
@Mark-n4c9t10 күн бұрын
@@Santi27Crip I was not suggesting the Step On’s are superior to the Supermatic. That is completely rider preference. As you brought it up though, the weight difference in boots is almost non existent. The difference between the Photon Step On and regular Photon is less than 50g. So may I ask your basis and an example of the same boot in both versions as being “substantially heavier”? Extra stiffness to ensure attachment to the Step On system?? No offence but that is just factually incorrect on every level. The range of available Step On boots from Burton, DC, Nitro go from soft to stiff. There are no differences whatsoever. Step On technology does not need a stiff boot to function, it has zero to do with the stiffness of the boot. This seems to be the main point of your post “With my Supermatic I can wear whatever boots I like and the riding feeling is exactly the same as with a conventional binding, which is not the case when I have been testing Step On.” This is fair enough and as I said I am not saying the Step On system is superior as that is personal preference. The “riding feeling” you describe is a direct result of what you are use to and muscle memory, nothing more. Again no problem with someone using whatever they want to use but the arguments you make against, except for personal preference, are factually incorrect.

My first impression when I heard about these was that I already have the Step-on Reflex, so “I’m good” (plus I just bought a pair of Step-on Split bindings, so “ca-ching!”).. but after watching your review, now I can see how there are some good improvements it offers - I’m curious if the footbed cushion uses the same mechanism to snap down in? I found that problematic and prone to misalignment and wear on my current pair. Great episode on TBH btw, hearing about catalyst moments was 🔥

How much snow filled up the tracks where the adjustment screws mount? One major advantage of re-flex on a channel board is quick adjustment and the screws don’t get covered in snow/slush/ice if you want to change stance during the day
@marksollors11 күн бұрын
To be honest,I didn't notice it at all. The conditions were spring slush and even looking at the footage I don't see much snow in there. I would imagine come winter powder there will be some snow and ice build up in there. I'll try and remember to update you when I get in deep snow this winter.

Move in the right direction. Saw guys last year having issues with the standard 4 bolt bindings on a channel mount Burton. Bolts wouldn't stay tight and he could only use two bolts. (at least this is what I recall). This makes me consider a new board/binding system this season...well....at least a Burton solution.
