Outbreaks of deadly infectious diseases can elicit intense fear and confusion in our society, stigmatizing both patients and caregivers. As an infectious diseases expert and a frontline Ebola physician, Dr. Bhadelia understands the challenge of balancing public safety and patient care during an emerging epidemic. She discusses her first-hand experience in Sierra Leone and the unexpected surprises she encountered upon returning to the U.S.
Nahid is the Director of Infection Control and Medical Response at National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory (NEIDL) at Boston University. She served as a frontline physician during the recent Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone and understands the global challenges of addressing epidemics in a modern world.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I'm glad that this doctor is able to speak on a problem that no one is paying attention too. A better suggestion for everyone is to do good where you can instead of wondering what everyone else is doing. A person is only in control of themselves.

Dr. Bhadelia hit on something lacking in our society. That is the lack of society's willingness to educate themselves of how we deal with a pandemic. This was presented in 2016 and hits on why we should always be open mindedly prepared for any unknown pandemic. I hope this can get passed around. She was very enlightening in this presentation.

Highly informative. I would also add delivered in what might be described as a poetic way. Excellent.

Can't blame people for trying to protect themselves first. It's human nature. And, if an epidemic had occurred in Iowa, most Africans wouldn't give a shit, at least not as much as the other way around.
